Today a new baby was born, no not the bald, squalling variety…THIS kind of baby–a new blog [feel free to insert an eye roll here if you like–just what the world needs, another blog, right?]. But for me, this is the coolest thing since being asked to prom.
F.i.n.a.l.l.y. It’s been months make that years in the works, with loads of indecision, incompetence and just general inability to get it done. But just like how I learned to swim, I’ve jumped into the deep end. So now it’s sink-or-swim time and although I’m paddling water like a crazed retriever, I haven’t been this excited about something in a long time. No doubt I’ll be making all sorts of tweaks changes to this blog (and most likely repeatedly till I get it all figured out, so consider yourself warned) but I truly hope you’ll join Sam and me and read about our adventures in pet therapy and life in a ranch [home]. Feel free to leave comments…we’d love to hear from you.
So let’s get the conversation started! I’m Monika, the upright on this pet therapy team and the four legs belong to “Yosemite Sam,” a completely adorable but goofy and simple-minded (that’s code for being dumb by the way) Standard Poodle. Yes he is the exception to the breed but what he lacks in native intelligence, he makes up for in sweetness. Together we live in a 1950’s ranch-style home near downtown Denver. Not exactly the ‘ranch’ you thought it might be, now is it? That’s okay, we’ll still cover all sorts of topics about a dog’s life and how they rule ours plus the whole pet therapy experience at our neighborhood hospital. No doubt I’ll be sharing more than a few rants observations and funny tales/tails about what it means to be part of a pet therapy team as well as life with a goof-ball dog. Throw in a sprinkling of tips and highlight a project or two around the ‘ole ranch’ and you’ll discover what Tails Around the Ranch is all about. So grab a cup of coffee or pour a glass of wine, relax and hopefully you’ll discover the “pawsome-ness” of pet therapy and comfort dogs and how much they mean to patients, caregivers and the uprights who do it. Let’s see how quickly the little ‘baby’ starts to walk and talk.
