Tuesday Trivia ~ July 7, 2015

It’s Tuesday and that means it’s time for some interesting obscure trivia.

Did you know that spiked collars were invented in ancient Greece and were designed to protect dogs throats from wolf attacks?!

The phrase, “man’s best friend” is thought to have originated from a Missouri courtroom speech in 1870 involving a farmer who sued a neighbor who shot his dog.

And lastly, In our last trivia post, Sam shared about seeing eye dogs learning to pee and poop on commend. Well…there’s something about a seeing eye goose for a blind boxer! Buttons, a 4-year-old goose leads her buddy around by hanging on to him with her neck or honking at him as to where to go. Aren’t animals are simply amazing?!

  1. I did not know about the spiked collars. That’s interesting! Now they’re looked upon as being tough-guy collars for brutes. I’ve always thought they looked a bit ridiculous, truth be told.
I love the story about the seeing-eye goose! That’s so sweet!

  2. I never knew that about spiked collars – very interesting! I just love how animals work together and help each other out. I love watching all the videos about animal best friends but my personal favourite is about a goat and a horse. This rescue horse was blind and his goat friend led him through the paddocks to the best food/shade etc. It’s so sweet!

  3. We just recently learned about the spiked collars. Very interesting post!

  4. You’re a day behind, today is the 7th……lol Did you have a nice holiday week end? Anything besides hospital duty? Nada here, while 3 of your siblings had company. Enjoying this weather? We’ve had winter days like this, only less humid, but I’m not complaining. Nice break from the normal July oppressive heat & drought.

  5. that was a great post! I was just discussing the interspecies connections with a friend the other day. I am fascinated with it. Best friends, like the elephant and the dog, the crow and the kitten… now the goose. We had one of these geese in the neighborhood for about 4 years. It scared the crap out of Cole. Every time it saw him it raised it’s wings, stepped toward him and honked. LeeAnna
