Hi there and happy Saturday, Sam here. Back in the late 1850’s, Horace Greeley said “Go west young man, and grow up with the country” so…I’m off driving to California…well, I won’t be the one driving-you know what I mean-the uprights will take care of that chore. I’ll be Flat Stanley riding in the back seat but it’s gonna be so pawsome hangin’ out with my peeps and taking breaks along the way (look out bunnies and little critters…I’m a-coming!). Greeley himself took one of the first stagecoaches to Denver, seeing the town transform from a mining camp during the Pikes Peak gold rush and dispatching stories about the West back east to his newspaper as he too traveled out to California. And like Greeley, we’ll be posting about our adventures (provided we have a good Wi-Fi signal).
Be sure to tell us about great places we should visit. Mom, Dad and I are excited about this trip and eager to share our adventures with you.
To our fur-iends buried in the big blizzard, know we’re thinking of you and hoping you are safe and warm. One quick question, anyone know how to install chains on tires? 😉
Live, love, bark! <3
The uprights eh….love the term Sam😉😉
Mostly…except when they fall down. Heh, heh.
Squeals!! This is going to be so exciting – to live through your adventures. Have an awesome time and I just ca’t wait to read ALL about them my sweet friend. XOXO – Bacon
Thanks, Bacon! We’re super excited about the potential adventures. ღ
Have a good trip, looking forward to the up dates and stories about the adventure.
This year you will actually run into some weather in Northern CA – we’re finally getting some pretty good storms. Lake Tahoe is an obvious destination in you want to head a little more east. Also southeast of Sacramento is Gold Country with lots of cool towns and history like Sonora, Jamestown, and Twain Harte. Veering off Hwy 5 just south of Stockton will take you to Tuolumne County via Hwy 120 to Hwy 108. We’ll be relocating there later this Spring. Big adventures in store for Kali, Holly, and I as we move to the mountains. Safe travels to all!
Thanks, Michael, maybe we can figure out a way to meet in person. Would love to give sweet Kali an ear scratch in person! 🙂
If you are only going to be north, I hope you can take in Marin County and the coast north of San Fran. If you find yourself around the Napa area, apart from the obvious spots, take a drive by the Russian River Valley. Way less touristy and amazingly beautiful. Then there are the parks…the redwoods.
Thanks for the recommendations! We hope to catch some sights after clearing out the storage units. ღ
Are you going right now? Be careful driving at elevation!!
Keep Calm & Drive On!
Murphy & Stanley
Thanks! Yes, some of the roads are pretty icy. We will take care and allow loads of time to make the trip safely. ღ
Have a safe trip!! We’re looking forward to posts and pix!
We got all sorts of crazy weather – rain/snow mix, snow, sleet, and back to snow. This afternoon? Sunshine and icy wind. Glad we didn’t have to go anywhere besides the back yard!!
Thanks; yes, the weather has been all over the map. We’re keeping our eyes on it. Thank goodness for some pawsome apps! ღ
Safe travels and we look forward to updates! DakotasDen
Thanks, we hope to have something soon! ღ
Oh wow – an adventure!! I love adventures particularly when I go to places I have never been before. Our last adventure was to Mount Gambier in the South East of the State – about 1200 miles round trip – and passing through the forests I had this feeling that any minute Gandalf was going to walk out. But that’s nothing compared with an adventure to California. Am so looking forward to reading your posts – don’t leave anything out!!
Have a great time! Hope you miss the icky rain over there. Something tells me your personal tour guide (aka Dad) will take you to all the best places! 🙂
Finges crossed…will have loads of work to do clearly out the storage units but then we hope to be ‘tourists’ for part of the trip. ღ
Safe travels! You can always stop by the state capitol and Old Sacramento is pretty charming.
Excellent! Thanks for the suggestions. ღ
Don’t miss Yosemite and the Big Trees.
I hope to see some of them, and maybe some with snow. That’d be so cool. 😉
There are some parts of Kowlifornya that I know well and others I don’t. Where are you headed there?
Sacramento area and parts north.
ohhhh Have fun!
Hope you enjoy your visit to California! No tire chains needed here in San Diego, will be sunny and in the 70s this coming week! :o)
Enjoy that sunshine!
What a super fun adventure! California sounds awesome. The land of squirrels and bunnies! Plus – no blizzards. Mom and I are safe and warm after the first 10 hours of snow. In a little while, we will go back outside to see if the snow is over my head yet.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Don’t get lost, Cupcake!
Road trip!
I say, do not miss the Winchester House. Or the Getty Mansion if you are in that area.
We drank our weight in wine in Sonoma.

Now that’s something I can get into (Sonoma). Thanks for the recommendations. Hope you’re safe and warm-we’ll be thinking of you! <3
Oh I hope you will have the bestest time, with lots of bunnies and with wonderful adventures… Go West, Sam :o) like the pet shop boys said once in their song :o)
