Sam here. So Monday it was 72º and picture ‘pawfect’ for this hound. Mom took me on a couple lengthy walks in our neighborhood and it felt wonderful smelling all the scents of Spring. I even photo-bombed her taking photos of some daffodils along our route and answered loads of pee-mail. Color me a happy boy!
Well, jettison yourself ahead some 20+ hours and here’s what Springtime in the Rockies looked like yesterday, and that was before it started really snowing! During the peak of the storm, it was coming down 2 – 3 inches per hour! The airport was closed most of the day, schools and many business were closed. It was wonderfully quiet since no one was out driving around. I did however, miss all my fur-iends and we weren’t able to go to the hospital like we were supposed to go.
All day long though I kept wondering where was I going to pee now? I mean heck, I can’t stand H2O of any kind and when mom let me out in the morning to do my business, I just snorted at her. Puleez…you’ve can’t possibly expect me to stand out there in THAT, sniffing for the perfect spot in which to send all my neighborhood friends a pee-mail. The wind was howling at over 20 mph and I dashed out to briefly investigate while mom waited for me under the eaves of the garage. I stopped, looked at her and immediately ran back to the covered patio by the door. Um…nope, definitely not peeing in that weather. You can stay out there, dumb upright, but dad will let me in and fix me breakfast. Ahem…mom followed me back and dragged me out to the end of the driveway encouraged me to pee. I complied and then ran like a bank robber back to the house. The rest of the day I kept looking at her hoping she’d figure out a way to build a litter box for me but she let me down. In the afternoon she and dad went out to build a luge run shovel the walks.
This was one of those super heavy, wet Spring storms that break tree limbs. Our neighbor across the street narrowly had a big limb crash on top of his car. It was too depressing for her to show photos since the same thing happened to her a few years ago when a couple of huge branches crashed through the fence. It even took a few guys built like Paul Bunyan to even move them off the sidewalk. Eek!
Any who, the luge contestants had a great time yukking it up once they finally got the luge run built. It took over 3 hours. Mom continues to ask me, “why did I buy a house on a large corner lot again?” as if I knew why she does anything. Pfft!!
In the end when it was all over (just before sunset), the sun tried hard to shine through the clouds and we saw some blue sky. That’s when we showed off the world that our neighborhood got close to 20″ of the white stuff (despite the forecast of around 4-8″).
Not sure how long I can ‘hold it’ but hopefully there’ll be enough melting today and Friday so I can get back to peeing and pooping in the perfect spot. A boy can only hold his legs together for so long.
Have you ever had to survive Snowmageddon? Were you able to smell it? I definitely tried.

….in November, after my return to the joys of snow shoveling….the comment was “talk to me in February”….. Let the record reflect….I’m still enjoying it! ……20 inches in one day!….what a treat! ……assuming you’re not looking for a place to pee all the time….

Holy cow, I’ll stick to my 4 inches I got yesterday.
That’s a more manageable amount of snow to shovel. I’m jealous. 😉

Boy howdy. Today it’s almost 50 with blue skies!
Good grief – what a contrast between flowers one day and 20 inches of snow the next! Snowmageddon indeed. Although, it has been raining off and on over the last few days and Benji and I have managed to get out for our walks between heavy showers – once we didn’t make it back in time – and the long range forecast is supposed to be a very dry winter. Perhaps Mother Nature is getting a look-in first. Happy Easter. Try to stay warm.

You can’t stand water in any form? Silly me, I thought poodles were water dogs.
They are but Sam is actually a Substandard Poodle! 😉
We never get snow here but we think it would be fun to make it turn yellow.

Oh dear. We had one of these in October about three or four years ago. We called it “Snowtober” and it caught us with leaves still on the trees and heavy wet snow. Most of the state was without power. We ourselves had a large tree limb come down across the front of the house and we had to go out another door just to remove that limb. We spent the week we were without power, hunkered down in front of our fireplace in the living room. Thankfully my sister had power and she took mom, and we ended up going to her place for meals. But I do remember it (not fondly). I hope you all didn’t lose power and that it melts quickly.
We were lucky-but at one time during the day about 300,000 without power. We’d be ‘toast’ since we don’t have a fireplace!
yes we had one of these this year. Cole said he’d hold it for at least four days, giving us plenty of time to get rid of it. I mean there was NO PLACE he would go. He ran for the house if the leash was off. He hated it.

Sam, you need to trek out west to Boulder and let your Chessie cousins show you how it’s done! Axel and Rudder think snow is the BEST! They make snow angels, plow through it, eat it and enjoy burying their faces as deep as they can in it. The only thing they like better than snow is water. Last night they got in a great game of chase, with snow flying, and turned themselves into curly snowballs. I had to use treats to lure them back inside!
If only! I so wished he enjoyed H2O even if just a tiny little bit. He would probably enjoy the chase though…until they burned his wheels off him. 😉

WOW! That is a lot of snow. I hope limbs didn’t break down any of the power lines. I love the pee-mail comments. That is so funny! My Tippy would have been in snow heaven. She absolutely loves to be out in it and will usually not come in, quite the opposite of you, Sam. However, we have never had 20 inches, so not sure how she would feel about that. Here is to hoping the sun does it’s job today and you can get back to your pee-mail!
Power was still out for over 100,000 as of last night so it appears there must have been lots of lines down. 🙁

Sam I’m so with you… as good as it looks to write your name in the snow, it’s uncomfy to be on pee-patrol while snowmageddon…. we just promised never to moan about the rain here… it could be snow too and that would be much more worse… Hugs to you all, stay warm and comfy…
