Looks like Spring has (finally) sprung in our neck of the woods. While out on recent morning and evening walks, it’s as if Mother Nature is saying “Lets Go Crazy” with visual tributes to the recent passing of Prince. While he wasn’t my favorite artist, I did enjoy a fair number of his songs. The past few days of world-wide adulation however has shed new light on this gifted artist and his life. His capacity to nurture aspiring new talent is unparalleled, his passion for so many causes and people and of course, those legendary guitar skills that were just wicked (remember the Super Bowl XLI performance of Purple Rain in an actual downpour?).
A Virginia Redbud tree blooming near our house showering the local street scene with “Purple Rain.”
Although I haven’t seen any “Little Red Corvettes” driving around or heard “When Doves Cry” from newly leafing out trees, all you have to do is “Stand Back” and see there is a lot of purple being showcased. I’d like to think of it as beauty in the midst of sadness at the loss of a multi-talented artist and truly passionate human who was first and foremost, all about the music.
Where you were a fan? What’s your favorite Prince song or was it one of the many he wrote for others (i.e. “How Come You Don’t Call Me Anymore“ by Alicia Keys, or “Manic Monday” by the Bangles, “Nothing Compares 2 U“ by Sinead O’Connor or “I Feel For You“ by Chaka Khan)?
Live, love, bark! <3
Beautiful photos!
Thanks!
Dating myself here but I went to the Purple Rain concert in the bay area when I was 15. Loved loved loved that talented gorgeous man – all 100 lbs of him soaking wet! LOL
If that! At 5’2″ he didn’t cast much of a shadow but boy did his music. Talk about a wicked set of hands on the guitar! ღ
Totally so not about this post: R U by any chance Monica from FB who has posted on Gert Gert’s page? If not, I’m seeing a doppelganger of Sam!
Yup, that’s us. How is the sweet girl? ღ
Small world! Will send a friend request. So much easier to follow blogs off FB than with the WP reader! GG had a couple of bad days, but she’s bounced back prettystrong.
Small word indeed. I’ve been trying to expand a social media presence but so far kind of suck at it. 😝 Glad to hear Ms. G bounced back. She has such a sweet face. ღ
This post is one of my favorite tributes. Creative and touching. I wasn’t a huge fan either but my faves were “When Doves Cry” and “Little Red Corvette” I had 3 red Hondas and when I would drive and that song came on I used to crank it up. Yeah, they were Hondas but who cares!? I never knew he wrote “Nothing Compares To You” until I was watching I think it was, Ellen yesterday. I liked Prince quite a bit but wasn’t crazy for him. I actually like him more now after learning more about him, than I did when he was alive. DakotasDen
Many thanks for the kind words. He was an interesting soul, remarkable artist and human being. Luckily his music will live on. ღ
Mom did not follow his music but he sure left his mark!
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
Don’t forget to wear your Raspberry Beret when you take Sam out for a walk!
🙂
It really does look like a purple nature tribute to the Purple One – whose music I loved. It was definitely well-listened to with my friends and me.
Chaka Khan? I was at a football game where she murdered the Anthem.
It’s been fun learning about all the songs by other artists I had no idea were written by Prince. A rare talent.
Wonderful tribute my friend to a talented person. Happy Hump Day! XOXO – Bacon
Thank you. Right back atcha, Bacon!
Nice tribute. Loved the pictures. Prince wasn’t my favorite either, but I did like Purple Rain.
Thanks! He penned some incredible songs for sure for himself and others. ღ
Prince’s passing was a huge blow to the musical community for sure. I loved a lot of his music, but Nothing Compares 2 U is one of my absolute favorites. Love your tribute post and the beautiful photos today! Have a great Hump Day!
Thanks, Marty! Prince had a remarkable catalog of music which will always be played with nostalgic fervor. You have a great day as well!ღ
The mama was a super fan. And a lot of his songs have a hi-story between the lyrics for my mom. We saw Purple Rain on monday in TV…. even the momma furgot how cheesy it was… but the music was great and it was a nice way to say farewell to a wonderful artist…
Purple Rain will no doubt be played a lot for a while. 6 of his songs are back in the top 100 again. His presence will definitely be missed.
The loss was sad, but Mom and I were not big fans. We think purple is your color, S.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
We weren’t huge fans either but you can’t deny his impact on the musical industry. We’ll be decked out in purple today since it’s our week to go to the hospital and purple is the color we wear as volunteers. Woo-hoo! ღ
