As I mentioned in a post earlier this week, mom decided to try to show Bashful around the hospital when we went in this week. Sam here. Bashful promised he wouldn’t go on a walk-about, so I lobbied mom to bring him along.
When we first got there, we were greeted by some of the volunteers manning the desk near where we check-in. They were very excited to greet me and made Bashful feel right at home. Bashful got to pal around with us as we visited with loads of staff members, visitors and patients at the hospital. Both of us boys were on our best behavior and received lots of treats and attention (my favorites!).
We were there just over a couple of hours which is definitely on the long side for me but there were just so many uprights who really needed my attention. So I doled out LOTS of therapy for everyone we encountered. Hey, I had to look good and impress my buddy Bashful, didn’t I? And all that work really wore me out.
Whenever I have a busy day at the hospital, I take a nap and rejuvenate as soon as I get home. This outing was much harder on me and I crashed big time as soon as I could. With apologies to Bashful, (sorry little dude, I wasn’t a very good host but I think I heard you snoring a little myself so I’m guessing it took a lot out of you as well). Normally, I nap for a couple of hours and then I’m “as right as rain.” This time, having an even longer nap didn’t seem to make a dent in my depleted energy levels. I wasn’t even interested in going for my evening constitution and I never pass up a walk but just didn’t feel up to more activity. Ok, sure it sprinkled 16 drops and there was lots of thunder and you all know I despise rain, but I was just too exhausted to even go pee in the yard, yet alone go out for our usual 2+ mile walk. All I wanted to do was rest and snooze and even with all the incessant noise that mom made while watching the Olympic Games, it still didn’t make any difference to me to want to go for an evening walk. Bashful concurred so us boys caught up on our beauty sleep.
Are you ever so tired you don’t want to do one of the things that you absolutely live for every day?
Live, love, bark! <3
Benji gets exhausted and sleeps to recover. Being shouted at and attacked by a crazy WaWa is exhausting, and, of course, being a gentleman, he does not retaliate, which is stressful. I can understand that Bashful would be tired out – he is probably not used to all this hard work. After all he’s not a Sam and he doesn’t have your stamina. Anyway, sleep is good
WOW!!! You had a busy day!! Poor Sam, you deserved that good, long nap! Lately, I’ve been taking some naps in my favorite chair at night – sometimes it seems like the only way I can get any time for myself. I sure will be glad when the dog-daddy is all healed-up from his shoulder surgery! (At least the knee is healed, or mostly healed).
We’re gonna start calling you “Nurse Cherry Ames” with all the care-taking you’re doing with the dog-daddy. Make sure you get some quality time for yourself when your ‘patient’ is resting, even a short break can make all the difference in the world. And keep smiling…it will get better. 🙂
I am so impressed you can nap for a couple of hours! I have never been able to stretch it further than 30 minutes. Maybe I need some training.
Me neither, but when you work as hard as Sam does ministering to peeps, sleep seems to come easily. 😉
A nap here and there is always nice.
It truly is very civilized if not necessary. 😉
It’s exhausting work and I’m sure it’s emotionally draining. Sometimes mental exercise can tire us out more than the physical can.
Boy, that’s a definite understatement. 😉
Doing therapy work at the VA definitely tires me out like that, S. Usually I stand up in the car, and help Mom find her way around. When we do therapy work, I SLEEP in the car all the way home!!
Love and licks,
Cupcake
We feel your Zzzz’s, Cupcake. 🙂
Whew, we don’t blame you for being all tuckered out…You had a very busy day!!
Smileys!
Dory, Jakey, Arty & Bilbo
We did but we’re all mo-better now! 😉
Sam, you are such a great therapy dog. Maybe Bashful learned how to be a therapy rock. Of course, he could never be as cute and cuddly as you!
Aw *Blush,* Lexi. You’re too kind. Bashful has been very vocal about wanting to spread rock therapy when he gets home, He may need some fur on his head that patients can pet. 😉
It appears that Bashful is also so tired that he needs an IV.
We’re trying to negotiate what exactly should go in that IV…vodka, tequila or beer. He can’t decide. Yet.
Looks like Sam’s making some room on his bed for Bashful to join him!
Bashful tends to thrash about. 😉
Oh dear – I’m sure that was a long day my friend – especially having to keep an eye on my little fellow. And hey sometimes I pass on the backyard and walks too, especially right now. It’s way too hot. Ya’ll get rest and have some fun okay. XOXO – Bacon
You had a busy day Sam! Hayley would be our girl when it comes to not wanting to do her favorite things and just wanting to sleep. Every morning she never wants to get up to go out and go potty as soon as she’s finished she bolts back inside and back to sleep she goes…She needs her beauty sleep I suppose.
Yes, girls sometimes do need their beauty sleep, but so do certain boys. 😉
Yes, I know the feeling. Those athletes on the TV are so much fun to watch.
O I bet the little rock has a lot to tell when he is back at the howltel thompson… and I’m sure the staff of the hospital loved to meet the rocking rock from the south :o)
I hope he doesn’t spill the beans that we ate all the BBQ potato chips yesterday. 😉
