Decision 2016 and its aftermath has been quite confusing. So confusing in fact, I think Mother Nature is as off kilter as I am.
While walking the dogs last night, I saw this on the outside of my garden fence. I mean aren’t poppies supposed to be spring bloomers? What the heck is this thing doing blooming now…in freaking November, no less??!! This reminds me of the scene from Ghostbusters where Bill Murray’s character (Dr. Venkman) quipped “Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together…mass hysteria!” To say it’s been one very weird week is an understatement. Or is this nature’s homage to Veteran’s Day on Friday? Is it that simply?
How are you holding up after the election? Hope you’re getting and receiving loads of pup hugs while you’re sorting it out; I know I am.
Live, love, bark! <3
Puppy kisses are what is keeping me sane through all of the insanity.
I would take it as a sign of hope.
“More than machinery we need humanity. More than cleverness we need kindness and gentleness. Without these qualities, life will be violent and all will be lost.” “To those who can hear me, I say – do not despair. The misery that is now upon us is but the passing of greed – the bitterness of men who fear the way of human progress. The hate of men will pass, and dictators die, and the power they took from the people will return to the people. And so long as men die, liberty will never perish.”
Charlie Chaplin – The Great Dictator
What a beautiful site!!
I think the poppy came on purpose to honor the veterans! Pretty cool. Mom has been through lots of elections. This one is no different. You vote for the candidate you like best. Somebody wins. Somebody loses. And ultimately, life goes on till it’s time to vote again.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
Probably the scariest election in memory, with an even scarier conclusion; I spent most of yesterday in a totally bizarre state of mind, confused and disoriented. But I think it’s a wake-up call, in some ways, that now is the time to push hard for a better future.
Agreed. The electorate MUST hold ALL elected officials accountable and communicate exactly what values represent Americans. Lies, fear and bigotry should not be the defining attributes of our nation.
Agreed. There’s a tough road ahead these next four years, and it’s going to be more important than ever to hold these officials accountable.
…..many are cold…but few are frozen…… and careful with that climate change talk….that’s heresy now you know……..

So says the Flat Earth Society. 😉
I love the thought of it being to honor our veterans. Our azaleas are blooming aging too.
Kloe is too young to unferstand the outcome of the election’s outcome (ah youth!) and Kali is too old to give a damn. Myself on the other hand, is confound anout how this could have happened and what it may mean for our
As for poppies you’ll recall that on the way to Emerald City in the Wizard of Oz it snowed on Dorothy and crew when they succumbed to the wicked witches spell in the poppies. There for I predict snow is on your near future.
Hope springs eternal for the snow and other matters. In all my years of gardening I’ve NEVER seen a poppy re-bloom! Ever. Especially given it’s been so incredibly dry. So weirdly strange. Both Sam and Elsa seem tuned into my distress, they are more clingy but very attentive to my moods.
We don’t have pups any more, since both Sally and Chiquita have crossed the rainbow bridge, but my wife wanted to take our cats with her to bed and just huddle and cuddle with them.
I think a lot of us will continue to feel that way for some time…maybe even for the next 4 years. 😉
I’m afraid you might be right there, especially when I thnk of his plans, e.g. for the Supreme Court. Yesterday I saw on the news that he is considering Newt Gingrich for Secretary of State and Rudy Giuliano for Attorney General. OMG!!!
Worse…Michael Flynn for Secretary of Defense and Myron Ebell for the EPA (he’s seems to be a member of the “Flat Earth Society” denying climate change). I’m holding my breath.
Great God!
Exactly. It may be a very bumpy ride.
And I Just heard these potential names being floated for Secretary of State, Sen. Bob Corker of TN (a reasonably one) and John Bolton (a decidedly NOT reasonable one). A couple days ago, Newt was floated for the same position. Hold on to your cowboy hat, Pit!
With what is “raining down” on us, maybe a hard hat would be better!
We may start digging a concrete bunker.
Now that evokes a really horrifying thought in me!
Bob Corker is our senator and a good person and a good politician. He is a great choice (so of course he probably won’t get it).
I do believe he is a decent man though I disagree with some of his positions. He is light years more favorable than John Bolton!
I am not very up on Bob’s positions. He lives in Chattanooga when he is not in the state capitol and attends the episcopal church where I used to work.
OMG!!!!
That little flower is wanted to hold on to the last few minutes of warmth. Sweet flower. XOXO – Bacon
I have NEVER seen poppies re-bloom in the same year. Seems bizarrely strange.
Snorts – with everything else that has happened this year – are you really surprised? Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon
maybe it is a sign of hope. God knows we all need it now. I have been beyond despondent, as well as sick to my stomach
I think we’ll all feel that way for some time to come. Always know there is a friendly face and tail wag at the Ranch when you need it most. ღ
Let’s take it, as you suggest, as a sign of hope.
I need something to hold on to as this unfolds.
Me too, so let’s keep in mind that hope never dies.
the majority of us voted for Hillary. Beyond that there was a large number of people voting for other parties. That means this person is not our choice. Demonstrations were peaceful, and so far we still have the right to free speech. We get to disagree when it’s this bad. This is not just an ideological difference this time, this is dangerous, especially if our freedom to disagree and checks and balances are threatened. That’s why people are mad, we feel the fiber of our country is threatened.
Monika, the weather is freaky but a flower is needed beauty. It rained here yesterday all day. The earth cried. We had peaceful demonstrations of our disgust, and I only wish I’d been one of them.
Very eloquently put, Leeanna and I share your sentiment. Let’s not forget Mrs. Clinton won the popular vote and you already know my personal thoughts on the election regarding the president elect. I can only hope the blooming poppy is a sign of hope that survival will be possible. We can and should let officials know what we expect of them…peacefully.
I would take it a a greeting for the veterans on friday… and as a good sign for all of us…
I’m choosing to believe it is a sigh of hope. Well that and possibly more evidence of climate change. 😉
Things are definitely different. Not sure yet whether it’s bad or good different, but I guess we’ll find out soon enough, right?
😉
Perhaps its the universe saying that among the strangeness and absurdity of these times that something lovely can bloom? Maybe more folks could step back, breathe, and notice one small lovely thing–as you have– instead of taking to the streets in mass demonstration. Voice is a good thing, don’t get me wrong. She was not my candidate; neither is Trump but I’m going to try to be open to the possibility that he can lead. Anyhow, I say this because I’m headed to Chicago for the weekend to visit my daughter and I’ll admit to being a bit nervous. It was mighty rowdy last night in the Windy CIty in the wake of the election results. Alas, my poodle-love will not be able to join me –that soul-soothing puppy love will have to wait for a few days. Hang in there. 🙏🐩
Here’s to safe travels with a happy reunion, both with your daughter and eventually back with your poodle. 🐩
