Monday Musings ~ February 13, 2017

Sam here, wishing effuryone a Happy Valentine’s Day tomorrow. Mom, Elsa and me hope you get to spend time with your special loved ones. My little sister had a mini-seizure last Friday so we’ve been keeping eyes on her. Mom was able to stem it quickly with some medication the vet sent her home with 4 weeks ago in case she had another episode. Luckily, it was a very minor one and she returned to her normal annoying self very quickly, without her usual reboot. Once mom was convinced she was ok, she began working on some projects she had been planning for us fur-kids.

i-love-you

We ‘snoopervised’ in the studio as mom drew up patterns and then sewed some  new stuffies from spare scraps she had lying around. I haven’t played with them yet, but Elsa seems jazzed about them, especially the Gingerbread Guy. Naturally, they’ve joined the rest of the migrating hooves and toys. What is it about her that makes her do that? She’s been barking at him just before she ambushes plays with him which is a good sign she likes him. So far I haven’t heard any screaming so I guess he’s ok, but he’s on his own as far as I’m concerned.

While these guys are nice and all, I’m not sure what I’m supposed to do with them. I think I’ll sleep on it, maybe it’ll come to me in a dream. I mean, the Gingerbread dude doesn’t even have any buttons for eyes that I can chew off. What kind of lame toy is that for a self-respecting wuss stuffie killer like me?!

Do you have any special plans for the loves of your life? I’m hoping mom bakes us some yummy treats. Mother Hubbard’s cupboard the treat bin is pretty darn bare. The dog bones she sewed aren’t nearly as tasty as they ones she bakes.

  1. You’re a lucky dog, Sam, having a mom who makes toys for you and Elsa!!

Glad Elsa’s seizure was a minor one!! Poor baby! I remember when my mom’s last poodle had seizures; but she was much older than Elsa…with her it may have been age-related.

    1. We’re still hopeful it was just a teeny hiccup and that no more severe seizures are on the horizon any time soon. Thanks for the well wishes. The epilepsy-monster is a real beast.
      Your fur-iend,
      Sam🐾

  2. Those look like terrific stuffies! I’m glad that your sister recouped from her seizure quickly. I know that must still be scary. We are having heart-shaped hamburgers! ♥

  3. Happy Valentine’s Day to our sweet friends! Elsa, we are very happy to hear you came around so quickly after your latest seizure. Hopefully this signals less and less seizures for you in the future and if they do occasionally happen , that your recovery period will be very fast! All our paws are crossed for you 🙂

The toys your mama made are adorable! We have lots of treats here (we need bribery for Wilhelmina for her recall!) so you can come over any time and we will gladly share ours with you 🙂

the critters in the cottage xo

  4. Your mom is amazing! You are so lucky. Home-sewn toys and home-baked treats. Wowzers! Be nice to those beautiful toys! I sure hope that the monster stays away. We know how worrisome that is.

  5. Your Mom makes you toys??? We are lucky if our Momz makes us treats or a homemade meal every once in a while. She pretty much only knows how to shop (which isn’t all bad, we guess). You are one lucky dog, Sam!
Pee ess….we are so glad your sister Elsa came out of her latest episode quickly. Paws crossed she stays well!
    Love, Luke and Cricket

  6. Poor Elsa and poor Mom!!!! Thank goodness Elsa returned to being herself quickly! BTW your Mom is one talented lady, those toys are darling! My Mom couldn’t do that to save her life! Barks and licks and love, Dakota DakotasDen

  7. no reboot this time..great news!!
your stuffies are so cute. lily has never been into stuffies. just prefers treats of the edible kind.
speaking of treats..an empty treat jar..just soo sad.
better get to it mom before all heck breaks loose. i mean seriously no treat jar should ever ever be empty.

    1. I know…I’ve been looking as pitiful as I can at mom and then staring longingly at it and back at mom. I think she’s starting to get it, a boy like me who isn’t into stuffies NEEDS yummy treats.
      Your fur-iend,
      Sam🐾

  8. Glad that your mom was able to spot and medicate your sister’s seizure before it was too bad. I think the toys she made for you are very cute. Since there is nothing to chew off, Tippy says maybe you could use them as a pillow or take them to your mom. My mom really seems to enjoy it when I do that, but then she throws it away and I have to go get it again. I don’t really know why that amuses her, but it does, so I play along. 😉

    1. Mom has gotten good at swinging into action at the first sign of a seizure. I’m with you, Tippy…don’t understand why moms through things we bring to them. I always give her that “why did you throw that” look. She just laughs at me so I put my head against her leg and she pets me. You have to outsmart these uprights every chance you can.
      Your fur-iend,
      Sam🐾

  9. I never thought about making stuffies. What a great idea! I will have to see what kind of indestructible material I can find for a bullie. 🙂

      1. I have an old pair of jeans that I have patched and they have finally become totally “indecent.” Maybe I will cut them up.

        1. Ooh jeans! Now there’s a great idea! Good luck. Mom is thinking about using an old wool sweater for a different look. We’ll see how that works. I just hope she makes me some treats today. Elsa can have all the stuffies she wants, so long as I get the tasty treats. 😉
          Your fur-iend,
          Sam🐾

  10. better put on that chef’s hat and start baking Monika. You know the way to a man-dog’s heart is through is stomach. Cute little stuffies!! Good job on those

    1. Aw, thank you, LeeAnna. It was fun making something up from scratch and warmed my heart when she took to it. I always use a store bought pattern so this was quite the adventure. Don’t think I’ll ‘quit the day job’ any time soon though for sewing. 😁

  11. Sorry to hear that your sister had another seizure but very glad mom had the medication on hand. Benji and I have nothing planned for the first half this week as work is being done in the garden and there will be workmen here. However towards the end of the week, perhaps Thursday – depending on the weather – I think we might take a run up north to Quorn and have our picnic there. I hope you have a lovely day tomorrow Sam. Take care of Mom and the Ninja.

  12. So happy the medicine works so well for little E. I think I’d LOVE those mom-made toys. I’m hoping Mom got me a new toy for Valentine’s Day. Plus some treats. (Don’t tell her I already saw them hidden in the closet. *wink wink*)

    Love and licks,
    Cupcake

  13. Oh I hope that seizure monster stay away from your sis… and you can enjoy a fabulous day of love…. the mama made a cake for my dad… she just noticed that one of the jars with cheese she used was with herbs and onions… uuuuahhhhh!
