Some Belated Acknowledgments

Yes, it’s Sunday and we don’t post on Sundays but I just can’t let another day go by without posting a public acknowledgement (and apology for being so tardy).

As you know, we don’t generally share blog nominations on the blog but we had to acknowledge and thank three of our favorite bloggers who were kind enough to nominate us for the One Lovely Blog  in July and early August. Our fur-iend, Lucy at Lexi the Schnauzer & Friends initially  surprised us. A post was drafted but languished with the craziness and hectic schedule we’ve kept over the past few weeks (although I was appreciative in my comment at the time). Everyone loves Lucy’s mom and we’re no exception. Thank you so much, dear Amy and sweet Lucy. No sooner than we were nominated by Lucy, I received notice a couple of days later that fur-iends, Miss Harper Lee and her adorable sister, Tallulah, had nominated us too! And then earlier this month, our friend Michael over at Golden Kali (with yet another pair of sweet Goldens) nominated us too. Wow you guys, I’m so touched by you all thinking of us for this nomination. Thank you from the bottom of our paws. We are so humbled and honored. And I apologize for not having posted about it much sooner. Life just kind of got in the way of me properly acknowledging your generous kindness. Thank you all very much for your nominations, your support over the years and your fur-iendship!

The award calls for me to list 7 things you may not know about us which are kind of difficult since we’re pretty much an open (and somewhat dull) book. But here goes:

  1. Sam is the first poodle I’ve ever owned (and I’ve owned 6 of them over the past 87 years) who won’t swim (or get near any water) even though his feet are webbed like Aqua Man.
  2. Sam is finding it somewhat challenging to be a good brother setting a pawsitive example to a stinker of a little Ninja sister who is corrupting him more often than not. Talk about peer pressure getting to him.
  3. Sam was adopted a few months after the tornado that leveled his hometown (Holly, Colorado (see Denver Post article here) and where he sired two litters of Golden Doodles (that dawg!).
  4. Sam aced his AKC Canine Good Citizen test despite being a stubborn butthead struggling during some of the training sessions.
  5. One of Sam’s favorite treats are pig ears (with apologies to our friend, Bacon) though I haven’t given him any in a couple of years.
  6. I am a naturalized citizen who once owned a hardware store and can cut keys and mix paint with the best of ’em.
  7. In my copious spare time, I make greeting cards to send to friends the old-fashioned way…snail mail, as well as create homemade dog treats, skin care lotions and bath bombs. If you ever want a greeting card, just send us your snail mail address. 😄

Many thanks to Amy and Lucy; Miss Harper Lee and Tallulah; and Michael, Kali and Kloe for thinking of us and for being such supportive blogging friends. It doesn’t seem reasonable to limit any “pay-it-forward” nominations to 15 fellow bloggers since everyone I know has probably received this one before. You all have such clever blogs that charm us but if in case you haven’t, consider this your chance to know we think you’re fur-tastic enough to receive it now!

Live, love, bark! ❤︎

  1. Congratulations on your lovely (literally!) award. It is always nice when our peeps think of us. We enjoyed learning those interesting tidbits about you!

  2. Congrats!! I really enjoyed reading all those facts! Funny that Sam doesn’t like the water! We are still trying to get Wilhelmina to swim a little further away from the shore but she does like splashing in the shallow parts and of course…the muddiest puddles in the forest. BOL!

    1. I’d be grateful if he got his feet wet. He walks around puddles on the sidewalk, can’t imagine what he’d do if we lived near a forest. Hang tough Wilhelmina!
P.S. Thanks for the kinds words.

  3. Congratulations you are one of the must read blogs. You both are the best. Charlie the dachshund

    1. Thanks. No, Sam was acquired through a breeder and lived with a loving family on a farm. He was intended to be a stud dog but has a recessive gene that showed up in those two litters so they decided to find him a good home and end his suave days of romance. 🙂

  4. Despite your disclaimer, every one of those 7 things you listed were news to me. Where were you born? Please pet the furkids for me, without whom I would have never “met” you!

      1. My first husband was half German. When I was dating Jeff, I told him I would never marry another German. He got this sad look on his face, and asked me what nationality I thought he was. Yikes! Happily, he is the most wonderful guy in the world!!

  5. Huge congratulations!! That is too funny about Sam not liking water. Hilarious! And…we are grateful to have received one of your adorable cards and your delicious treats! You are the best! xoxo

    1. Thanks, Dakota! We love sending them out. Always seems like a treat whenever I get something via snail mail so I hope others enjoy received them as well. Sam and water definitely don’t mix. Knuckleheaded dog. 😆

            1. Pretty much everyone does. Whenever I think of those days, I chuckle because some of the sales guys didn’t know how to do it. And male farmers would come in and only want to be waited on my them and they’ve have to come get me to find the right blank for the key. Chauvinism is very much alive and well. LOL

  6. Thanks Monika and no apologies necessary. I appreciate you Sam and the Ninja girl’s support. I follow a lot of bloggers and can’t get to every post from all of them but TATR is always a “must read”. Take care,
    Michael and The Girls

  7. Hi Monika,
Congratulations on those awards. They’re very well deserved! I was interested to read the Sam had sired two litters of pups. Did you get to see them? Have any photos? They must’ve been gorgeous. Or, was that before your time?
I found a red collar cleaning up today and stuck it on Fake Bilbo. Soon, he’ll be wanting to go for a walk.
I hope your family was spared the horrors of the hurricane. I’ve been out a lot lately and haven’t caught the news but it sounded bad.
Take care and I hope you have a great week!
    Best wishes,
    Rowena

    1. Many thanks, Ro. No pics of Sam’s offspring, but I’m sure they were cuties. Have never seen a standard puppy that wasn’t an adorable little ball of fluff.

My sister and her husband were able to get home yesterday and have been greeted with 16″ of rain so far. My daughter and her family have received over 20″ outside of Houston. I cannot conceive of that much rain, and while a couple of roads into their area are under water stranding them, they are safe and dry at their house. Unbelievable storm!

      1. Hi Monika,
I’m sorry for the delayed reply. Your comment slipped through the net…like so much lately. A few thoughts have hit a brick wall in my head this week and bounced back return to sender.
That must be a relief that your family is safe and dry. I am yet to experience that thing of children growing up, leaving the nest and facing difficulties without being under your roof.
BTW, my friend who does the dog rescues, currently has two curly-haired black retrievers at her place. They’re 6 weeks old and we’re seeing them tomorrow so standby to see them. I can’t wait. She’s also said there are some border collie pups coming up. Temptation!!!!
I hope you have a great weekend. It’s Fathers Day here on Sunday. We’re going to stay home I think. I’m still coughing and my Mum’s not great. It seems like a KISS weekend…Keep it simple stupid.
        Best wishes,
        Ro

        1. Thank you for the message of comfort. The family is fine though others are not as fortunate. We continue to send our thoughts and prayers to all affected by the storm. Feel better, get some rest and enjoy your weekend.
