Hey there sports fans, Sam here with a new treat mom found and whipped up for me and Elsa last week. Boy, are they ever tasty. And so easy to make, once you’ve chilled the dough.
Peanut Butter~Pumpkins Treats
O-kay mom, I promise to share with the Ninja, but not before I share the recipe with our readers.
You’ll need:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (unless your pooch is sensitive in which case substitute to one he can enjoy)
- 1 cup of oats
- 1/4 cup of peanut butter (make sure it’s Xylitol free)
- 1/3 cup of pumpkin (the real stuff, not pie filing)
- 1 cup water
In a bowl combine all ingredients and mix until well combined. Press dough into a ball, wrap in plastic and refrigerator for a few hours or overnight like we had to do. I almost lost my mind waiting. Sheesh mom!
When your dough is well chilled, lightly flour your work surface (using the same flour you used in the dough), roll out until about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out with cookie cutters or the mouth of a small glass. Arrange on cookie sheet. You can put a jillion of them on a sheet since they don’t expand. Mom always uses parchment because she’s lazy about cleaning off the sheets to avoid sticking. Optional: Apply an egg wash to top of treats. We skipped the eggs, I was already too excited to wait any longer. I already had to wait overnight. Bake at 250ºF for 25-30 mins. And for the legal beagles to keep us from getting sued, remember to allow your treats to cool before serving. Make sure to refrigerator to keep. Mom likes the idea of freezing to keep them safe and the treats crunchy for us. Gimme a treat, gimme a treat!
See, what’d I say, quick and easy, right? Hope you bake some up for your favorite pup and let us know what you thought of them.
Live, love, bark! ❤︎
We’re trying this today. 🎃
Pawsome. Let me know what the pups think, ok?
They loved them. I owe you some pumpkin! 🎃
So glad they liked ’em. My two knuckleheads go crazy when I get in the freezer to pull out some. 😊
We’re freezing the pumpkin we can’t get to.
Great idea. Then you can wipe up more treats all winter long. ☺️
Those look fantastic, enjoy.
They were pretty darn tasty.
What a good idea! Wonderful treat, and healthy, too.

And the dogs love ’em. 😇 Thanks for swinging by the Ranch. We ❤︎ visitors.
I make a similar cookie and throw in some mashed banana and shredded carrot. My guys go nuts for home baked treats.
Mmm , that sound fabulous!
They’re also good horse treats and if I’ma bit peckish…welllllll…
LOL 😂
…or hungry 😋
OMD THOSE LOOK SO SCRUMPTIOUSSSSSSSSSSSSS…………I almost ate the ‘puter screen! My humom HAS to get those cookie cutters!! They are simply ADORABLE!!!!!
Oh Mia, you are just adorable. Mom has a whole collection of cutters from when she sold her treats. We even have a Labrador and a Dachshund.
Wow very cool!! My humom would love to see your collection one day! She also has a big collection when she used to sell her (human) treats too! But she better get those bones and paw print ones for ME!
Check out Fancy Flours website. They have every cutter you can imagine and then some.
Uhoh…you don’t know what you’ve just done….You’ve unleashed crazy cookie cutter humom….lol
Isn’t that the coolest site? They are such a cool company and I love their products. Everything comes so adorably wrapped. It’s a great way to find everything you need.
Thank you for sharing it!
OMD, those sound FABulous!!!! Nows, Ma is gonna have to clean the cobwebs outta the oven furst….that might take a while. Maybe she can do it while the dough is ‘chillin”! I thinks she can do this, butts I have my doubts. It’s been furevers since she’s made me any cookies! Sam, you are one lucky puppers! Maybe I can just move in with you guys….you won’t even notice I’m there…..okays, that’s a lie. BOL!!!
Anyhu, I will try and talk Ma into makin’ these and let you know how bad she messed them up.
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Oh Ruby…your mom will be fine making these. And if not, like they used to say on The Price is Right…come on down! 😇
Nom…We are going to try and get Mama to bake for us this Fall!
xoxo

👍🏻
We saved to our Pinterest board to try later. We like to use fresh pumpkin from our own garden when we can, skipping the can completely! 🙂
An even better idea. 👍🏻
Anything with pumpkin in it sounds wonderful!

😋
Shoots, give me a glass of milk and a few of those cookies and I’ll be happy. They look good!
😇 Milk or beer?
Those cookies look good enough to dunk! Milk!
👍🏻
YUM THANKS FOR SHARING 🙂
Always happy to share to my fellow pups.
Nice! It’s too hot to bake right now, but we will sure try in the winter. I have to remember to save the recipe.
I can add it to the recipe page with my others. 😇
You have a recipe page?! Have to check it out.
Recipes are posted on the “Bone Appétit” tab about the header image. 😊
Those look pretty tasty … even for us humans 😉 Don’t worry though, Sam … I’m sure your Mom will only make you share with the Ninja …
We have other recipes that are better when uprights want to taste them but this one isn’t too bad. 😋
Can’t give my girls pumpkin – even just a little bit messes up their poo. And the peanut butter aggravates Shadow’s reflux. Bummer! That’s why I stopped making their treats a few years ago. They loved the taste but I didn’t like the side effects. I give them the Sojo’s Blueberry Cobbler treats now.
Oh, that’s too bad. Can they have oatmeal?
Oatmeal is fine, or I should say oats that have not yet been made into oatmeal. I’ve even given them a teensy bit of cooked oatmeal from time to time.
It’s a shame to have to tell something that should be common sense to avoid getting sued. You’re putting the Darwin Awards out of business.
Bwahaha! Maybe a gene-pool cleaning is a good thing?
Box treats have so many ingredient we can’t pronounce. We like simple.
That’s exactly why mom makes them for us!
They look good enough to eat!😉 Do you know the approximate calories per treat or oz?
I don’t Michael, the recipe didn’t have nutritional values with it. I realized one critical ingredient was somehow missing fro the most-1 cup of water! Gah, not sure how that happened. Anyway, I suspect not very many since there are few ingredients. Looks like mom needs a better proofreading editor or to stop posting in the middle of the night. *Sigh*
Your fur-iend,
Sam🐾
No worries, thanks anyway. They sure do look yummy. Maybe I can get Holly to fix some up for me 😉 as am not adept with baking or cooking unless it involves getting meat and chicken to the proper temp on an open fire.
It’s super easy, you just have to have enough time to chill the dough before cutting them out. In the scheme of handmade dog treats, this one is good but some of the others I’ve posted at the Bone Appétit page are much better. 😇
Oooh, very quick and easy. S&D are jealous that your mom bakes for you. I typically only bake for me. 😉
These sound DELICIOUS (and LOOK delicious!!) Sammy and Elsa, can we trade Moms please? (just for a day or so?) I seem to have found a lazy one. Barks and licks and love, Dakota
Amazing how many different variations there are for this recipe. I had posted one myself a while back: http://www.pawsgivemepurpose.com/peanut-butter-and-pumpkin-dog-treats/ The dogs love them all, no matter what the ingredients ❤️
Great minds thinking alike. 😇 This recipe is easy to make and dogs love a peanut butter/pumpkin combo so everyone’s happy. I’ve sold variations of this recipe with our treat business for years.
You sure made those treats pretty-looking. 🙂
Luckily my mom has lots of cookie cutter shapes-she says they do all the work. 😇
Your fur-iend,
Sam🐾
love the recipe!!! can I come to you for a bone? I’m a poor dog too
Anytime, sweet Phenny. Mom will happily make and give you treats. 😀
