Low Wattage Day

With this week’s little snow storm crispness in weather (thankfully it’s back in the 70’s – yay for Indian Summer) I thought it’d be nice to enjoy some fresh-baked bread with tonight’s dinner. Cue the bread making machine. It started up doing it’s usual whir, whir noise as it blended the ingredients. No biggie, right?

Unless you’re a puppy mill dog who has never been exposed to such racket noise. You’d have thought there was a burglar trying to break into the house by the way Elsa went nuts barking, growling and running from end to end trying to locate the source of the offending sound. Once she realized it, she tentatively walked up to it to give it a sniff, but not before numerous treats were dispensed to cajole her it was ok to come into the kitchen where the sound came from.

I often times forget there are things this girl hasn’t experienced. But then again, even Sam wasn’t sure about it and had to be coerced with treats. After I nearly had to rub his nose in them. It was hard to believe it took so long for him to realize there was a treat in it for his investigative work. Hilarious especially since he recently got caught standing up on his hind legs filching taste-tasting a slice of hot pizza. Sometimes that dog is low-wattage when it comes to a functioning brain.

Live, love, bark! ❤︎

  1. Now you’ve got me thinking about breaking out the Bread book (hmm…it’s in one of these still unopened moving boxes….). Still, after over eight years of having our poodle love Brando with us, he ferociously barks at the vacuum cleaner (does his best to attack it) and, during the holidays, there is a musical nutcracker that he goes all-out Cujo on. Yet the first rumble of thunder he’s a mess of trembling under the kitchen table! <3

  2. Callie was my sneaky girl, my counter surfer, until she tore the second CCL. But I’d give almost anything to have her here – happy and healthy – even if it meant having to watch her every minute!

  4. Thank you for the thoughtful and kind comment you made on our post about our Daddy. We know he’s an Angel smiling down on us but we are heartbroken.

  5. Ahhhh. The smell of baking bread must be so delicious! Maybe if you gave Elsa a piece of freshly baked bread with a bit of butter, she would associate the sound of the bread maker with something pleasant . . .come to think of it, we think our Mama typed that because she is the one who actually wants a slice of freshly baked bread with a slab of butter! ;p

  6. hMhmMhmmm Freshly baked bread!! I can smell it now! I think I would be too scared to enter the kitchen. I’m scared of loud plastic bags so I won’t even enter the kitchen if my humom is standing in there with my dinner or treats.

  7. that is cute about Elsa, but….Dakota wasn’t a puppy mill dog and he loses his mind over 1) when I stir eggs 2) When I use aluminum foil 3) When I smash garlic to open it 4) spray that you use on pans or “I Can’t Believe It’s Not Butter”…if he just sees the yellow container he loses his mind and sooo much more! xoxo

  8. Bread making machine? And here all along I thought all you ladies out there on the vast prairies next to Denver harvested your own wheat, beat the chaff out of it and then baked it in a stone oven over hickory stumps while being attacked by indigenous peoples.

  9. Haha…I can relate! Years ago one of my cats experienced a coffee grinder for the first time. He was like a cartoon cat on the kitchen floor trying to gain traction…and failing…to run away! More recently, as a kitten one of my current boys jumped a foot in the air when the toaster popped. It didn’t help that he was on the counter at the time!

  10. Little things I never thought of scare the bezeezus out of both Lucy and Xena. I took Xena down to the road to bring up the garbage cans at work and me pulling the first can scared her half to death.

  11. Oh, freshly baked bread sounds wonderful. I’ve been contemplating a bread machine for a long time, but I haven’t pulled the trigger. Perhaps I’ll ask for one for Christmas and see if anyone gets it for me.

  12. Phenny often wonders about things what are common… I never forget his eyes as he saw the tv first time… I will make a pumpkin bread for howl-o-ween so we will see what he thinks about the whir-whir of the bread-maker ;O)

Feel free to bark your thoughts...but no growling please.
