Commercial vs. Homemade ~ Always a dilemma isn’t it? We want the very best for our pups and sometimes we think we don’t have the time. I can tell you this is one of the quickest handmade treats you can make. Not only is it quick and easy, it contains healthy ingredients too. We’ve shared homemade snacks made with peanut butter before, but this one has the added benefit of banana. I don’t know about you, but my best intentions of using the beautiful, yellow fruit before it gets too ripe seem to fail on a regular basis. What do you do with that last banana that is past its prime? How about making some of these?
Oatmeal Peanut Butter and Banana Dog Treats
- 1 cup old-fashioned oats
- 1 medium, peeled and quartered banana
- 1/2 cup of creamy peanut butter
Preheat oven to 350º F. Pulse oatmeal, banana and peanut butter in a food processor until a dough ball is formed. Roll out on a lightly floured surface to 1/2 to 1 inch thick. Using a cookie cutter, cut out and place on a non-stick baking sheet or parchment paper. Bake 12-15 depending on thickness until golden brown on top. Allow to cool 5-10 minutes. See what I mean…easy-peasy. These treats will stay good 3-5 days in an air-tight container (unrefrigerated) or you can freeze them to last longer. The trick is waiting until they’ve cooled off enough to taste. After all, quality control is big around our kitchen and burnt tongues are definitely frowned upon. Happy noshing!
Live, love, bark! ❤︎
Thanks for the share and for stopping by the Ranch. We ❤︎ visitors.
Thank you guys for the recipe! Really great message 🙂 subscribe ✔️
You’re most welcome. We often share our recipes after ‘quality control’ verifies them. 🐶 Many thanks and thanks for swinging by the Ranch. We ❤︎ visitors!
Those faces are precious, no doubt waiting to do some quality control sampling.
And trying their best to send me on a guilt trip for not making them more often!
Mine try that too. I wish I could say they were unsuccessful.
Those sad puppy eyes are waaaay too effective.
Oh yes. They have such a rough life. 😉
Sold! I was just mulling to make some treats for the hounds – for being so patient, shut in the house because of the unbreathable air – and I have everything on hand, including a banana past its prime. Perfect.
Fantastic! Your two fur-kids deserve it. Have a good weekend treats them and stay safe.
I haven’t made cookies in years other than the Pillsbury slice-n-bake ones. But these sound good enough for me! (Hubby hates both bananas and oats.)
More for you and the girls! Oops, was that my out-loud voice? 😆
OMD those look so good!!!! My humom has been making more homemade treats too since Nymeria’s stomach is much more sensitive than mine. Her farts are even stinkier than mine if that’s even possible! BOL! We’re definitely going to try these!!! Thanks for sharing!!
I hope they work out for you. They sure are easy to make and tasty too.
I think the poodles and I would like these! Yum!
Yes, they have been a hit with both species at the Ranch. 😊 Thanks for stopping by, hope you are well.
We can’t wait to try this recipe. It’s fun to make cookies for the dogs. Glad to have another one.
They’re so easy and quick to make, and I’m sure your pups will love ’em. 😊
Holy Milkbones! I thinks EVEN MA could do that!!!! wait…I wonder if it’s safe to turn on the oven???? you never knows with her! BOL!!!!!
Thanks for the recipe, I’m printing it for Ma now….let you know how it goes…
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Excellent, Ruby. Anyone can makes these…they’re super simple and even better, quite tasty. Good luck!
mmmm peanut butter and banana sounds wonderful!
hugs
Hazel & Mabel
Delish and super quick and easy. You girls would love them!
What a fabulous recipe. Tallulah and I give it five out of five buckets of drool. 😉 We love homemade treats, and this one is definitely going into our very special dog treat recipe binder!
Bwahaha. 5 buckets of drool…you crack me up! 😆
Those sound great!!!! I’m afraid that we have “special needs” eaters around here. Grains badly alter R’s urinary pH, and peanut butter doesn’t agree with Shyla. I guess that these ones won’t work for us but I bet that lots of dogs would love them!
Sorry they won’t work for your guys. They are the easiest treats I’ve ever made and the gang sure love ’em.
Those sound great and easy. I’ve never given Tippy banana before, so don’t know if she likes them or not, but she loves her peanut butter.
Sam wouldn’t eat a banana before Elsa but loves them now! 😊
Oh man those look sooo good. MOM!!!! B
Wow, who knew homemade could be so easy? We always have bananas in the house…Dad and Luke share one every morning. I think – know – that Luke would love these easy treats!
They are truly tasty and couldn’t be any easier to whip up. The fact that the dogs love them is icing on the cake 😊
The taste testers look quite serious 🙂 What a great recipe thanks!
When it comes to treat, these guys don’t mess around!
Home made is better. You know exactly what it contains. Do you have a recipe for sunflower seeds?
Only in springtime and only when squirrels don’t eat the sunflowers. Rotten devils. Don’t they know certain birds ‘need’ them?
I think my mom wants to eat them BOL!
They aren’t half bad actually! 😇
That looks delish! Usually at our house homemade is not a good thing. Don’t tell mom we said that.
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
It’s practically impawsible to mess this recipe up, guys. 😇 ANYBODY can make ’em.
They always know, don’t they?!? This combination sounds yummy for humans too. I hate over-ripe bananas – the only way I’ll eat them is in banana bread. This just gives me one more idea. Especially for Bear Cat …. who loves peanut butter!
I’m not even fond of overripe B’s in bread. The taste seems too extreme with a harsh bite. This recipe is a healthy snack and I’ve yet to find a 4-legged critter not enjoy them.
These look great, but my pups can’t have the oats. They both (unlike Lexi) love to get bites of my bananas, though!
Sorry your crew can’t have oats. I find my guys do better than if I use wheat flour. I’ve tried using coconut flour but my experiments have been less than pawfect. 😊
Any grain will change the ph in their stomachs and they won’t be able to properly digest raw bones. Did I give you the recipe for my coconut flour doggie cookies? They are great.
No, but I’d love to get it from you. I totally understand on the digestive PH changes. I’m a firm believer in making life easier for everyone concerned. I started using some coconut flour mixed with peanut butter into a paste for distributing Elsa’s medication. Works great!
I’ll send it to you. My pups love it, and it is also easy to make.
Excellent! Many thanks.
I can always use a good banana recipe for the same reason as you – this is great! I think Choppy will soon thank you as well (as soon as the bananas on the counter right now go bad).
😁 Around my house, seems to happen sooner than later. In the meantime, give Choppy a nice ear scratch from us.
That we can definitely accomplish – and do the same from us for your crew!
😄 Delivered and appreciated from the Knucklehead gallery.
Reblogged this on Dana Ellington, MAPW and commented:
For the dog owners who maybe read my blog :-). Always nice to remember our fur-babies during the holidaze. Thank you to Tails Around the Ranch for this post.
Aw…thank you for the reblog! Appreciate it. Happy Treat Tuesday. 😄
Do the dogs at least get to lick the beater?
Lick the beater, the bowl and nosh on their tasty treats for as long as they last. We’re a full-service experience when it comes to the kitchen. 🍽
Same here on the banana…but still going to try it. The Poodle loves peanut butter, second only to Cheese. Thanks for sharing. <3
Enjoy! I personally can’t stand overly ripe bananas myself so this way I won’t have to feel guilty sending them to the compost pile. 😊
Oh we MUST be sisters. I don’t like ripe bananas either. They make me gag. I buy em green!
Me too!! Way to go, sistah 😊
We have organic peanut butter (no Zylitol), and constant over-ripe bananas. Sounds like some time in the kitchen is warranted. 🙂
Gold stars for you! ✨ It sure helps being able to use those overly ripe ‘nanas.
🙂 … and big “WOOF!” from Ray.
Wow, those are easy peasy!! Jakey isn’t a big banana eater, but I may have to give these a try for Rosy!
Sam wasn’t either but his love for peanut butter took care of that. 😊
My dogs would have to fight the humans for these…yum.
Hahaha! Two words…double batch!
Enjoy your homemade treats. I feed my dogs both.
You’re a good dog mom to give your crew treats like these.
gosh, all of you can sit at the table for these. I guess I could give up the sugar… well, maybe I’d have mine dipped in chocolate.
Or you could drizzle carob over them for Milo. 😉
oh that looks sure tasty… but I’m not sure if the mama can manage that challenge after her horrible f-ookies from last weekend…
They would be easy (and more importantly tasty) enough for anyone to make, Phenny!
