After a recent training class I took to help with Elsa’s meet and greet issues with little dogs, I’ve started carrying around high value treats in the pockets of all my jackets. Elsa really loves the dehydrated lung treats and really focuses on me when cued. Lately I’ve been seeing these long stringy drool bombs (ick-gag). The first time I laughed out loud thinking how funny it was. Now I’m starting to wonder what the…?? So much for ‘girls being all girly and dainty,’ eh? She didn’t seem to mind having this hanging down since she was insanely focused zeroed in on a squirrel across the street.
Do your dogs drool at the thought of high value treats?
Live, love, bark! ❤︎
Ya know, I never really thought about it, but I don’t remember any of my dogs ever being droolers. Thank goodness! I love Newfies – like Jen’s Sherman and Leroy – but I doubt I could deal with the constant drool. Like you said “ick-gag”.
Jack will sometimes drool or have a steady stream of drips. Piper is a little more lady-like and will have a slower drip rate. Leo is too busy jumping for treats to drool.
Ah, nothing like a zippy squirrel to steal attention away from treats! Great “action” drool shot!
I am not a drooly dog, but YES! I drool for treats AND while I’m carrying the treat to a good place to settle down and eat it. Mom cleans the floor a LOT! Girly??? Dainty??? Nope. Never heard of it.
Love and licks,
Cupcake
What??!! With all those adorable skirts you wear? ☺️
I have one dog that drools at food. It doesn’t matter what the food is, she will drool. She drools on our walks. 🙁
Elsa is drooling on ways now too. Weird to see those sticky ropes though.
yup! Drooly poodles live on this house too! I saw that photo of Elsa and my heart melted. I guess I’m not prim and dainty either!
It’s so bizarre to me since all my other poodles never drooled. It’s almost endearing…until that rope lands on your bare arm. Blech!
Gambler is a big drooler
Haha, That photo quote is the best.
Mabel can really get the drool going in anticipation of a real yummy treat!
Dehydrated lung treats?! Whoa, as a cat person that’s a new one for me!
Yup. They dogs go insane for them.
I learned something new today…
It’s the drool of anticipation 😉💜
You haven’t seen drool until you have seen my pigbro’s drool.
HuMom is forever spraying & mopping; we like the lavender oil cleaner she uses😉
Nose nudges,
CEO Olivia
Wiping a dog’s faces is a lot like wiping a small child’s face, they swish their face back and forth trying to get the offending rag away from them. The only difference is that dog’s don’t kick and scream. But barely.😇
Mazie has started drooling more as she has gotten older. My bad since I have had to use treats more since Bree joined us. Thank goodness for wash cloths!
I may have to start carrying one with me. I’d hate to use a tissue and then…need a tissue. Awk!
Lee drools for all treats!
Oh gosh…I really have a hard time with drool. LOL. So luckily our dogs don’t drool much, though Luke does sometimes, especially if he’s made to wait too long for something! 🙂
Haven’t ever had drooling with poodles before so it’s a new experience. The sheepdogs were droolers but have been gone for a few years. I’m out of practice at wiping snouts.
Squirrel meat is drool worthy!!!!
Your Pals,
Murphy & Stanley
And in my neighborhood, I’m be supportive of squirrel drool if it eliminated those pests. Probably. 😆
BOL!!!!! Hilarious!!! My humom just gagged but she totally understands…She finds it funny too when she sees me and Wilhelmina dripping drool from our mouths when they are holding out treats (especially when they are trying to get a photo). I say its borderlining on animal cruelty!!!
That stuff can be n.a.s.t.y. that’s for sure. I’d never seen it hang on for so long. Usually drool drips but this stuff was like strings of glue! Blech.
You know what they say … cats rule … dogs drool 😉
I’ve read several places that cats can drool when their teeth are bad. Wouldn’t hurt to check Elsa’s teeth. We bet it’s cold enough that you’ll find drool-sicles 😉
Bwahaha. Elsa’s teeth are mostly pretty good; we’ll see her vet next month for a final determination. Actually temperature wise it’s been in the 60’s lately. Feels like California without water. #PrayingforSnow
Yep! Every night Dakota knows he gets his greenie bone at approx 6pm. When we go to the box to get them out he stands on his hind feet with his paws on the baby gate totally focused on the box. He smacks his lips and looks at them as if he has never seen them before lol, and…if we are even a minute late with them he will bark at us to remind us he hasn’t had his bone!
Whoever thinks dogs can’t tell time are sadly mistaken. 😄
Either schnauzers don’t drool (I can’t imagine that, as food-driven as they are) or it is absorbed into their beards. Why not? Everything else is. (Have you seen my car keys? No. Did you look in Xena’s beard?)
LOL…too funny. Maybe there some lost change in there. 😇
Yes, I will have to pick her up and shake her.
Hope you hit the motherlode. 💰
They’re more proactive than mere drooling.
I guess it wasn’t cold enough for a droolcicle…
Bwahaha. Love it 😆
We used to have mastiffs, whose drool is a bit like an industrial lubricant… I’ve never seen our poodles drool! Let’s hope she was just hungry.
I can’t. even. imagine. that kind of drool.
We loved those dogs do much,
Some of the best droolers really take up loads of real estate in our hearts. My sheepdogs were the same for me.
But I’d never share my ice cream with my mastiffs, using the same spoon, like I do my poodles. Poodles are less like dogs and more like short people.
There are so many reasons not to share ice cream with a mastiff. And fortunately, I haven’t fed any to the dogs. Guess I’m stingy that way. LOL
My senior dog and my parrot have a thing for ice cream….
Very familiar… Kali is a major drooler when she knows she will be getting treats. She pretends to not understand me when I tell her how unbecoming it is. To top it off she looks away in disdain as I wipe her face.
Nothing worse than dog distain isn there? Also known as being uncooperative around the Ranch.
There is something about treats that are –or were –lungs that bring out the beast in my dogs. I hate just touching them.
My pocket feels like it’s full of spare tiny light-weight marbles. So weird.
It’s about the only time Choppy does drool!
Maisie, never. Annie rarely but since she had 2 teeth removed she drools on that side a lot. Winn, oh yeah…..
This is all new territory for me. Need to bring a burp rag with me on walks now! LOL
Cloth diapers are my go to, I have them in the car, in my training bag and stashed around the house. Winn wears bibs when we are out and about.
Teddy does not drool ever, but he did sneeze directly into my face this morning 🤓
OMD…that IS hilarious!
It was. My daughter asked me why I yelped and had a good laugh for herself when I told her.
I’d probably fall down laughing my head off and knock myself out. 😆
Ray drools at pretty much any food! The amount of drool varies according to the treat!
I’ve never owned a drooling poodle before so this is a new phenomena for me. I love Ray’s intense look when he thinks food might be at hand.
He could wrote a book “How to Focus for Personal Gain”. Of course his book “How to train humans … it’s really quite easy!” would be his first one. 🙂
Always knew he was a writer at heart. I expect to see his latest on the NYT best seller’s list soon.
Bless their hearts. And oh yes, we all drool for our treats here at the Hotel Thompson – even daddy. Snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon
Your Daddy? Oh my, gotta see that!
at least they aren’t ropes of drool like Cole’s Newfie friend had. They would wrap around Coles head while they played.
Lung treats? Is that something Milo might obey for? It’s time to up the ante on walks. And on not putting his teeth on Daddy.
They seem to be a higher value treat than the Zukes training which both kiddos loved.
a lot…. I always have two kleenex in my pocket…. and it is devastating when I confuse them and use the wrong one… ewww ;O))))))
LOL…no sensation like that is there?
