May Day Model

April has slipped into the history books and now it’s time to gather ’round the maypole.’ Hi there, it’s Sam. Today is my favorite day of spring and not just because it’s “May Day” which is celebrated in various northern hemisphere countries (U.S., Canada, the United Kingdom, Finland, Estonia, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Greece, Bulgaria, Romania, Portugal, Spain, Sweden, Poland, and the Czech Republic). Today starts ‘my’ month. You see, I’m Mr. May in our hospital pet therapy calendar.  Lots of nurses will be swooning smiling when they flip over April and see this handsome dawg staring back at them. I’m feeling extra honored to be included as a center fold this year since the pet therapy peeps decided not to make a calendar for next year’s fundraiser.

Mr. May

According to Wikipedia, “May Day has been a traditional day of festivities throughout the centuries, most associated with towns and villages celebrating springtime fertility (of the soil, livestock, and people) and revelry with village fetes and community gatherings.” Originating in Roman times as a pagan celebration, modern May Day ceremonies in the U.S. vary from region to region and many unite both the holiday’s “Green Root” (pagan) and “Red Root” (labor) traditions. Children often prepare small baskets filled with flowers and treats to celebrate the arrival of spring.

Whatever you do today, we hope you enjoy a beautiful day and a sweet wet nose from your favorite four-legged fur-iend.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. Such a handsome model. They are very lucky to have such a handsome pup as “Mr. May.” Not only do you bring joy when you visit, you will now provide smiles all month long. Congratulations!

  2. What a knockout you are for Mr. May!!! Mom is excited for May too, even if it is starting out with thunder boomers:(

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

  3. MAY DAY! MAY DAY! Sam has a hole in the top of his head! Oh, wait, that’s just the photo of Sam! 🤣.

Seriously, though, you’re a handsome dude Dog, Sam! And I bet you made your Mom work hard for that photo didn’t you?! That’s okay…she really didn’t mind. ❤️🐾

  4. You make a dashing centerfold Sam! And May is special for us here at the Golden K too because both Kali and Kloe’s Gotcha Days are in May. Enjoy this festive day. I like the idea of baskets. Baskets full of wine. Now that’s a great tradition. 😉

  5. You look great, Sam. I also liked your write up. I’m sure those nurses you have crushes on feel the same about you and have been anxiously waiting 4 months until they could turn over the calendar to May and see you every day. You do a wonderful thing, helping people who need you to feel better! Thank you, Sam. I’m actually going to get to stay home most of the day today, so plan a little extra snuggle time with Tippy. That makes our May Day a special day too. Hugs and tail wags to everyone in your pack today.

  6. Good morning, Sam,
You look great in that calendar photo. But then, that’s nothing really new, isn’t it? You always look great!
What we are going to do here today? – Wait for rain. Finally, we’re supposed to get some. And it does look promising outside, overcast as it is. So keep your paws crossed.
    Have a wonderful day,
    Pit

  7. Hey Sam …….. listen up! My Humane Society did not have a calendar with me in it, until my humans decided to create one. Then they got 12 months of me! If those pet therapy peeps aren’t going to do one, get your Mom to do one with you two in it! Lots of people loved my calendar … and you guys are both pretty photogenic as well! Go for it. Woof! Ray.

    1. Oh Ray, how clever of your humans to do that. I always knew you would make a great model! I am sure that was quite the special calander.
Too bad you and Sam don’t live closer. You could pose together, you handsome models!

Feel free to bark your thoughts...but no growling please.
