Memorial Monday

Today is Memorial Day in the U.S., a national holiday where we remember all those who died while serving in the country’s armed forces. Originally known as Decoration Day after the Civil War when Union and Confederate soldiers honored their dead by decorating their graves with flowers, it has morphed into its current form honoring all Americans who have served.

Today is also the ‘unofficial’ beginning of summer but it will be a quiet day of reflection at the Ranch, especially given the challenging times here and around the world. Today we will honor those in our family currently serving their country as well as all those who have served in the past and are also grateful to all the 4-legged who have served with distinction.

Have a safe and happy holiday.

  1. Sam looks so serious … and Elsa’s hamming it up as usual! It’s a gift to get both sides … sometimes when things are out of control, the only thing you can do is laugh!

  2. Hope you got the most from your reflective day with family. BTW, Sam has a better serious pose than Elsa. Or was she just hot? 🙂

  3. You look so patriotic today! We join you in thinking of all our service members past and present

  5. Sam and Elsa, you do a wonderful job of reminding all of us to honor our country’s fallen services members on this solemn day. It is with thanks to the brave – fallen and still with us – that this is still the land of the free. Freedom must ever be entwined with responsibility; a truth that many today are challenged by. I always thank anyone in the uniforms of our armed services for their service. It’s the very least I can do.

  6. Sam I Am looks so very serious. He must know the origin of this holiday. An uncle I never knew died very young in WW II. I do miss being able to place flowers on my families’ graves today. We live about 600 miles from the cemetery. The cemetery does it for me, but it’s just not the same. Hoping you have a restful day.

Feel free to bark your thoughts...but no growling please.
