Remember Me Thursday

Today is a special day known as Remember Me Thursday, a “global awareness campaign uniting individuals and pet adoption organizations around the world as an unstoppable, integrated voice for orphan pets to live in forever homes, not die waiting for them.”

As you may know, rescue is very important to me. Having rescued a number of pets over the years and most recently rescuing my little black Ninja, Elsa who developed epilepsy two weeks after her adoption, Given the opportunity to shed a light on a  topic near and dear to my heart, I will whenever I can.

Far too many pets languish in shelters waiting for someone to rescue them so we hope on this day that people will consider adoption. I know each time I’ve adopted a dog, be they from a shelter or a rescue group, I have been so very well rewarded by these amazing creatures throughout my life. I continue to love and share amazing adventures with my little Ninja as I watch her ongoing development.

I hope you will consider saving a life and experience the joy of knowing you made a difference for a shelter pet in the future.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. I have to say, Delilah has been a large challenge for me, and we really struggled at times, but the investment has paid off in spades.

I would never hesitate to rescue again. Thanks for writing about this, and thanks for being so committed to the Black Ninja. A lot of people would have given up.

    1. Some dark-hued pets can have their own set of issues but the payoff is so worth it!

  2. aaww friends. We’ve missed you so much. And Remember Me Thursday was very special to us here at the Hotel Thompson. We hope to be sharing soon. Sending ya’ll bunches of hogs and snout kisses. XOXO – Bacon

  3. Thank you for joining in shining a light on those who didn’t get their forever family and those still waiting to be adopted.

    1. Some of our most favorite pets have been rescues from shelters. We continue to hope all pets find the ‘pawfect’ fur-ever home.

  4. Sometimes when adopting, you’re really taking a chance….will you get the pet you hoped for? But that’s true even when you buy a puppy or kitten from a breeder. While maybe we don’t always get what we expected, we always get exactly what we need – a whole lotta love and much, much more.

    1. Boy, don’t I know that. I knew Elsa was a puppy mill dog and would need special care but didn’t plan on needing care for epilepsy on top of that.

    1. Your comment questioning whether it disappeared was approved this morning. Your comment about your rescues also appeared. Was there another one you left that didn’t show up? I will grant there was a delay due to time zone for which I apologize. All comments are ‘approved’ and since the comments came in the middle of the night, Denver time and didn’t get approved until this morning. So sorry for all the hassles. WP can’t seem to remedy problems on the site satisfactorily. I’m pretty much at my wits end.

  5. Benji is a rescue dog – Chienne and the Man my two dogs before Benji were both adopted, and my dogs before that were also adopted, as was Buster and Scruffy before them. Every dog I have had the pleasure of sharing my life with has been a rescue dog. Benji may well be the last, although I began my life with a West Highland Terrier that my dad got me when I was a boy and I would like to end my life With a Westie. Unlikely though, Benji is a fit as a horse :o)

    1. There’s so much joy when rescuing pets because you know how happy they are when they have a warm and loving home. That feeling makes my heart swell.

  6. Does rescuing them before they hit the shelter count? 🙂 If so, I’ve had several, including Lucy, and yes, they do make great pets. Oh, I tried to rescue a schnauzer, but for a whole year couldn’t find one in a shelter, and the only rescue group I found wouldn’t let me!

    1. It does in my books. Sam was a ‘second chance’ rescue even though he came from a family.

    1. I’m sorry you lost your rescue but applaud you for rescuing another one, especially right away. I hope you share a long happy life together.

  7. Every cat & dog I’ve had have been a rescue in one form or another. Poor BellaDharma was in a room at the shelter for 2 years, minus a 2 week (so-called) adoption & a 6-8 week adoption that also fell thru’. For the Life of me, I’ve no idea why she was overlooked. She does not like other cats & is scared of dogs….in both adoptions another cat was brought in & BellaDharma shut down. She will never have to worry about that here. I prefer 1 cat at a time…..
Loved your post Monika! Elsa you look wonderful….
    (((hugs))) Sherri-Ellen & **purrsss** BellaDharma

    1. You are a ‘pawsome’ rescue mom and your newest baby is lucky to have you. Thank you for rescuing her!

  8. So happy you adopted Elsa! We are proud to have been blogging each year (too many to remember) for this most special day (our post is on Cody’s blog since Cody was adopted and my Angel Bobo was rescued during a blizzard from the streets)

    1. We appreciate all you do for rescues all year long, Caren. You are an angel on earth for your advocacy.

  9. I promise you IF I ever decide to get another dog after, well, we won’t talk about what is in the future, hopefully further rather than sooner… I will adopt one….
IF I get another. Which is not bloody likely but could happen,
