Nature Friday ~ February 1, 2019

Nature Friday
Is anyone else having a hard time comprehending the fact it’s February already? Wow, where did January go? Today we once again join our fur-iends Rosy and her brothers from LLB in Our Backyard for this week’s edition of Nature Friday Blog Hop. I also want to take a moment to wish my baby brother a very happy birthday. Hope your day is extra terrific, Bro.

So on this first Friday in February, since so much of the country is gripped in a Polar Vortex of epic proportions, I figured let’s go back to the beach!

I could walk up and down the beach in Mexico a million times and still be enchanted with the scenery. Just looking at the golden sand, blue sky and foamy surf warms me up. Sure beats shoveling snow filled sidewalks, doesn’t it?

There is some very entertaining about catching a glimpse of pelicans whenever I’m at a beach location. I love that they always seem to be flashing a smile at you, especially just before they swoop in and filch a part of your lunch. This guys trailed the boat in hopes of a tossed fish and was amply rewarded for his aeronautics.

And what beach is complete without a catamaran or parasail? The colors themselves are enough to warm a winter soul, don’t you think?

Finally, as this little sculpture with his colorful painted surface suggests, the beach is just plain fun. We stumbled across an art gallery in Old Town Puerto Vallarta curated by a fellow from Corsica. He had relocated to Mexico over 30 years ago and loved the spirit of his adopted country. He was showing several of these dog-themed sculptures that were so charming. Who would love stuffing one in their bag for the trip home?

Hopefully these images warmed you up a bit. To our friends caught in the jaws of bitter cold, we’re thinking of you and hope you stay warm and safe. May your weekend warm up enough where you can get out and enjoy some nature with all the brightness of a sunny day. For me, I think it’s time to anticipate a tasty birthday toast for my brother. Cheers!

Live, love, bark! 🐾

    1. There were several of those statutes that were similar that I fell in love with. So adorable, so colorful. Happy to provide a spot of sun for you.

    1. You’re right, he would be a terrific addition. What’s not to love…a fiery personality and all that fabulous South-of-the-Border color.

  1. Fabulous shot of the pelican!
My owner Gail spent Christmas a couple of hours up the coast from Puerto Vallarta while I was stuck in a boarding kennel in Scotland. Sometimes life truly is not fair…
    Toodle pip!
    Bertie.

    1. Dear Bertie, so sorry you weren’t able to appreciate the Puerto Vallarta area. So diverse with a rich culture. I really loved it and could see myself living there.

  2. Ahhh. Makes me miss the beach already. The colorful dog is in the “play bow” position, inviting to play. I think his mom dressed him up funny for playing on the beach tho. Behr Behr 🙂

    1. The beach is a wonderful place in which to gain clarity and peace. I half expected that little Chihuahua to bark at me. Thanks for swinging by the Ranch. We 💖 visitors!

  3. Wells, it’s not cold here, butts those are FABulous pics that makes me wanna do beach zoomies! (as long as I don’t have to gets my furs wet! BOL)
I will have two margaritas please!!!!!
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  4. As I type this a big old rainy winter storm is passing through the Rancho which suggests that in about three days or so you’ll get another dose of the white stuff and plenty of it if the rain here is any indicator. Max says he likes snow as long as it is in Colorado and he’s in California. The dog has no empathy or adventurous spirit at all.

  5. Even though we are not getting the extreme cold we are more than ready for spring to get here. We really like the colorful sculpture

    1. You know I actually saw a clump of daffodils popping up along our walk yesterday. Seems like a good sign to me!

  6. We’ve had some cooooold mornings followed by warm afternoons, but we’ve had sunshine too – thankfully! – so it’s tolerable. But I certainly did enjoy the warm beach photos, thank you!!

    1. My great pleasure. Selfishly, it reminded me of a wonderful trip and warmed my soul too. Happy weekend.

    1. I think the Groundhog said spring will be early this year. Let’s hope after all the cold delivered this week.

  7. See, that’s what you can do on a nice day: Between 39 – 45C are not all that nice – really. A friend sent me the following a year ago:
    January
    February
    March
    BLINK
    December
Have a great weekend and long may your good days continue..

    1. Glad to be able to share some digital warmth. Hope the weather begins to warm up in your neck of the woods.

    1. I’m sure you guys were bundled up-it got to be in the mid-50’s here today-and just perfectly gorgeous.

  8. The ice pictures in my FB feed have been very pretty. But I love the colors of the Mexican beach. Thanks for sharing them with us.

    1. The ice photos have been mind blowing but I figured people could use some warm pics. Here’s to more color and more sun!

    1. There is something so therapeutic about toes in sand skipping just out of the surf’s reach. In this case, I think it’s something for both of us to look forward to in a few months.

      1. No kidding…. and come March 3, I shall sulk in my house as my sisters and mother go on a cruise. And I am stuck here because my damn house didn’t sell yet.

          1. Sure. But, yanno… since it’s not yet a done deal, I feel I can’t really leave for a week at that time. Swear, cuss, curse, blaspheme…

    1. I hope it warms up your way soon. Otherwise I expect to see photos of you in the whelping box cuddled up with mama and baby Chessies. 😍

  9. Warm would be good. Glad you have recent memories of warm. We’re heading to the boat this weekend. Got to get her ready for a cruise next weekend. It’s all good.

Have a fabulous day and weekend and stay warm. ♥

  10. Monika,

There is nothing like the ocean. Walking along the beach, swimming in the ocean . . it is pure bliss. And it feels as if summer will never happen here in the Northeast, LOL. Frigid doesn’t even begin to tell the story. It’s frightening.

But to catamarans and sandy toes and Bloody Marys!

    1. There is something very therapeutic about the beach. Wishing you oodles of poodles of sunshine and a few liquid beverages to celebrate warmer temps.

        1. Good tequila (like an Anejo) can go down very smoothly. It’s like liquid sunshine! 😊

    1. Thanks-you too. It will be in the 50’s till Wednesday when the next front blows in.
