National Read Across America Day

Dr. SeussNormally we don’t post on weekends, but we didn’t want to miss an opportunity to join the blog hop celebrating Dr. Seuss’ birthday hosted by our fur-iends Chimera Jakey Molly. You can click on the links for other Dr. Seuss blog fun.

March 2 is National Read Across America Day, where we celebrate one of our most favorite activities, reading. Created by the National Education Association (NEA) in 1998 as a way to encourage children to get excited about reading and it occurs every year on Dr. Seuss’  birthday. We think the perfect way to celebrate is to don a Dr. Seuss hat like Sam and read any one of his famous stories, like the 2015 bestseller, “What Pet Should I Get.” Today  students, teachers, parents, and community members around the country will come together to read books and celebrate the joy of reading.

The best news about Dr. Seuss is there will be a new book coming out later this year (September 2019), 28 years after the author’s death, according to a press release from the publisher. The new book is about a friendly horse who takes a group of students on a tour of an art museum. Artists and non-artists will appreciate the timeless theme that “there is no one right way to interpret the beauty we encounter every day,” as indicated in the press release.

Dr. Seuss

So what are you waiting for…grab a book and join us! And happy birthday to the good ‘doctor.’

  1. Love the birthday card! I grew up on Green Eggs and Ham and The Cat in the Hat! I am so looking forward to the new book…especially since I was an equestrian in my youth! Can not wait for it!!!

    1. It’s so exciting to know there’s a new book and that it’s about horses!

  2. Tuesday is my blog day so I thought I would start with my favorite furry friends. Do you know that I grew up entirely unaware of Dr. Seuss’ books? Not sure if things have changed but it bypassed Italy completely. Which is such a shame.

    1. That is a shame, but luckily easily remedied. I’m actually looking forward to checking out the new book for artists and non-artists this fall. Thanks for dropping by. We always love it when you do. 😍

  3. I celebrated Dr. Seuss day on Saturday. Albeit, very much unintentionally. But hey . . the day rhymed nicely and it was a much needed adventure, so it still counts . . right?

    1. We just hunkered down in the single digits. Brrr…was it cold or what?! Happy Monday.

  6. Thanks for participating in the blog hop, we are jumping for joy over the thought of a new Dr. Seuss book.

    1. It was our great pleasure. Plus I’m looking forward to seeing the new book.

    1. We hope this annual celebration encourages reading among kids.

Red is a good color for Sam 😉

        1. A very good cause-anything that will give kids an interest in reading, count us in.

    1. There are so many clever peeps in Blogville and this day really shows that off.

  8. Happy Dr.Seuss Day! Sam makes a great looking cat 😉 I love Dr.Seuss too, but then…I read some trivia on someone’s blog yesterday that said he cheated on his wife of a zillion years and she killed herself……I was in shock!

  9. Love Sam in the Hat. I hope he doesn’t get into as much mischief as that darn cat did when he put on the hat. 😉 Happy Dr. Suess day!

  10. What a pretty Dr. Seuss card you’ve made there! There can never be too many of those stripey hats in my opinion! Tee hee hee. Wowy, I wonder who is paw penning that new book? Maybe The Cat in the Hat himself, who I believe is a real pussycat. Winks.

    1. From the press release it sounded like it was pretty much done. We’ll see in September. Thanks for swinging by. We 💜 visitors.

  11. Great idea, this!!! If I were up to it, I’d get my book about TR and Will Taft and read it, but I’m not. Ducky and I just came home from a ride in the car and we’re enjoying the semi-peace in the back yard. (A lot of traffic down on the road in front of the house; but at least we don’t have to hear the news!)

    1. Isn’t that exciting news? We 💖 Dr. Seuss and combining it with art, well mom is over the moon.

  12. Yes grab a book and help a child to read open the world to them. “You have brains in your head. You have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose.” Happy Seuss Day!

    1. Eggs-cellent advice because kids will give me the best ear rubs when they read to you.
      Your fur-iend,
      Sam🐾

    1. Thanks for swinging by, Brian. We 💖kitties and readers. Happy Dr. Seuss Day.

  13. I used to follow a blog called “Reading with Rhythm”. That was about a woman and her dog who went to schools, liberaries etc. and there read with children. I thought that was a wonderful idea. Unfortunately, they don’t blog any more. I don’t know what happened. They simply disappeared.
Have a wonderful weekend and read a lot,
    Pit

    1. Bummer. We are especially fond of ‘reader’ dogs and maybe when Sam retires from pet therapy he’ll want to read to kids. Have a great Saturday!

    1. Anytime. We’re big fans of Dr. Seuss and especially reading. Love the fact they found a new book. 😍 Thanks for swinging by.

    1. Thanks; we adore the kind doctor and just had to ‘pawtisipate.’ Happy Saturday!
