  1. To Monika …… and anybody else still Following his Post. I have a history of living in various parts of England, and the consistent term for Worcestershire Sauce is simply Worcester Sauce (pronounced Wuster Sorse). It always resulted in what I asked for, and was never questioned! 🙂

  2. Here in South Africa we abbreviate it to just ‘wister sauce’. The natural reaction to words that long beginning with W is to give up on English. Say W ‘V’ then talk like you are fluent in some other language. I don’t know why, but it makes life easier

    1. That’s the way I say it. When I’m sober. LOL Why am I not surprised there are YouTube videos on it?! Too funny.

      1. It seems 99% of us have a problem. I sidestep the issue by asking for the Lea & Perrins. LOL

  3. I don’t think it really matters how you pronounce it – everyone knows what you mean so you still get handed the right sauce. I use the same ploy as Easy – I refer to it as the Lea and Perrins. Just as easy to say that than anything else. :o)

    1. I’ve never been very good at saying that properly. It’s one of those words that makes everyone sound silly.

  4. Mom was born in western Massachusetts and lived there for 37 years. She is a bit of a linguist and always struggled with the “preferred” pronunciation of the city of Worcester, but based on how she says that city’s name, we think we know how she pronounces Worcestershire, and it makes no sense:)

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

          1. Years ago, it only took my son one semester to acquire the Bostonian attitude. He’s been living there for 30 years now, and the attitude got firmly entrenched. It is truly funny!

    1. Worcestershire is one of those ‘great equalizer’ kinds of words that puts everyone on par. 😊

  5. I’m sure I have confidently pronounced it wrong my entire life. I was raised in West Texas where the twang makes us mispronounce everything. I feel bad for those who have no such excuse! I’m just glad that I found the 303 29 years ago.

    1. And the 303’s great gain! I don’t think anyone can pronounce it right which puts us all in the same boat.

  6. I beg to disagree. Where would we be without these strange pronunciations?! 😉 Can you imagine what would happen if everyone were able to pronounce it correctly?! 😀
Btw, try this place name: Cirencester. The locals pronounce it as “sissitte”.

  7. when in doubt run it together quickly. I was raised by people from the deep south, imagine how they said it!

        1. Ha…they’re gonna need it. The have a long history of looking particularly bad on Monday night. Especially against the Raiders.
