Monday Musings ~ September 30, 2019

Is it really the last day of September? How did THAT happen? After a few days of soul rejuvenation in Vail, Colorado I’m back in the city. And what a shock to my morning walk routine. It’s been ages since I’d gone up to the mountains and I sure noticed the difference in the air quality and noisiness upon my return.

So that means I’m probably going to be hanging on the quiet beauty of the high country for a few days to keep those tranquil vibes lingering just a bit longer as I re-assimilate. Hope you won’t mind. Happy Monday.

    1. Can’t decide what was better, getting away in general or getting away to such a soul affirming place.

  1. Hi Monika. It’s funny to hear about you going to visit the mountains when you already live in the mountains. It is so flat here in Australia and even our tallest peak, Mt Kosciusko, is more like a rounded knoll that a jagged mountain peak.
Anyway, it always takes awhile to settle back in after a break and you don’t want to rush the process.
    Best wishes,

    1. Denver is more high plains than mountains. Sure the altitude is a mile high but next to peaks that are 14,000 ft. we’re a flat prairie. I’m still savoring days spent in crisp temps, golden color and a slower pace.

      1. I had no idea that Denver was high plains. Your mountains sound amazing and like nothing I’ve ever experienced. Our nephew lives in Canada and posts some stunning photos of mountain scenery. I’ve been geeting out more lately and taking in more of the water, which has been great. THe weather is still very variable and it’s actually been a cool Spring.
        Best wishes,

        1. The only thing Colorado lacks is an ocean. But after spending a few days in the high country, it matters not. 😊

  2. It’s funny how used to obnoxiousness we can get just by living around it day in and day out. You don’t even know the day-to-day changes until you get away and take a break from it all.

  3. Water flowing over rocks – tranquil and soothing. Would love to go back to the mountains but they are within the Flinders Ranges National Park and no dogs allowed in the National Park. So, no Benji – no me. Just have to put up with saltbush and dust. But I liked the photograph….

  4. We occasionally go to Jasper, Alberta, about 3 hours drive from here. Jasper is in the middle of the Rocky mountains. The air is lovely and it is so serene. However, a glipse of the quietness every 10 years is enough for me. We are in a a quiet town.

    1. It’s been a good 20+ years since I was in the mountains. It was great being out of town enjoying some tranquility and autumn beauty. 🍂🍁

  5. And the sudden chill also. Snow in the Sierras and a small tornado in the valley. And, of course, the never-ending supply of people heading over the mountains in shorts and tennies, with no chains. Our night temperatures have dropped 25 degrees in about 3 days, my body can’t adjust that fast.

    1. The night temps are cool but days are still warm. I too, could have done without the short/tennie wearing non nature respecting tourists. Saw the first dusting of snow on the Gore Range.

  6. Sounds wonderful. A toast to peace and tranquility …. and oh … we are ending September about 20 degrees above normal. Nothing like cruising into October with the sense of July-August.

  7. The city is a place you go and shop and then leave and return to the beauty of the wide open spaces. I hear you.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. ♥

  8. How could we mind? We are, however, deliriously happy for you that you got a chance to get away… and maybe a tad (insert levels here) jealous that you were able to 😉

    Happy Relaxed Monday!

    1. Aw…you’re too sweet. It’s been YEARS since I’ve gone up to see the aspens change and it was so very worth it for the beauty as well as its ability to revitalize and energize my soul.

        1. With all the shifts you’ve been pulling, no doubt. I hope you can get away at some point soon. Even if just for a day or two. 🤞🏼

          1. Last night, after that event was over, we had to set up for today’s tournament (250 peeps). It was 10 pm, we just wanted to get the hell outta Dodge but here we are, practically slamming forks and knives down and cursing. “I don’t want to be here anymore” “I am tired of doing this shit”, etc…
I think we are all done with the season!

            1. My sympathies. That kind of grinding down is never a good thing for the body or the soul. Hope there’s a decent light at the end of the tunnel.

  9. September, we hardly knew ye!

And you go right ahead and keep riding that chill wave of peaceful easy . . . sounds like the perfect way to usher in the fall. 🙂

    1. It was glorious and I so want to hang on to it. Sadly there’s so many construction projects (read stinky diesel trucks) everywhere in the hood. Can’t believe I didn’t notice them before! Yikes.

        1. You can say that again. The rumbling cement and heavy construction trucks running up and down the street are definitely wearing down my affability. *sigh* More traffic is ahead once all these multi-family projects are completely as well as more insufferably self absorbed well heeled millennials moving in. This whole social experiment might not be as offensive if it was affordable but heaven forbid any profit be sacrificed for anyone making less than a jillion dollars a year. 😬

    1. The summer part seemed to drag on endlessly (it’s still in the mid to upper 80’s here though it will cool down later this week. I’m hoping there’s some wet stuff in that cool down. 😉
