Pretty brazen, aren’t they? We had one beat up our cat once. In our own backyard. I still think they’re cute, but give them a wide berth.
I know I’d never tangle with one. They have thumbs; you definitely don’t want to mess with them.
Yeah, and they’re clever. If one ever came through our dog door into the house, I’m not sure they would leave the kitchen. The amount of mischief, mess, and noms would be endless.
Eek…that’s not a comforting idea!
Did you use some military technology to get those pictures and hear their conversation?

I think we were all still a bit asleep. Usually we see them closer to dusk and then all bets are off. 😆
I am jealous, having never gotten a picture of a raccoon before!
Come to think of it, I’ve never seen them in the morning, only in the evening. Guess it paid off being out at oh-dark-thirty still half asleep!
OMD, we gots those guys here too! They usually come out at night, and dig up peeps lawns lookin’ for grubs. I have barked one off our fence befores, butts it fell on the other side, and not ours….sigh.

Spend more time feeding geese and ducks in mid-morning walks. Benji not impressed with early morning walks in the cold.
We’ll be adopting Benji’s cold weather strategy which seems most practical. While it’s broiling though we’ll be out there with the early morning critters. 😇
We started the early morning walks because of the heat and because of the lack of flies – yes, that’s a problem here in the “outback”
Don’t blame you and Benji one bit! Our ‘fly season’ begins in August so I sympathize.

😆 I continue to be very surprised the dynamic duo didn’t turn me into a kite.

I once came across a family of raccoons making their way home in the early morning during one of my runs. We just looked at each other and then I crossed the street, seeing as how I will always give a raccoon the right of way!
Seems like they’re all programmed to expect the right-of-way. Maybe that’s why they looked at us and thought “pfft, another silly human with her dopey dogs.”
Hahaha! If only there were such a thing as thought bubbles.

Yup. Thankfully that storm sewer opening is across the street. Yes, I’m a bit of a wuss when it come to these guys. A good distance from them is a very good thing.
I scared him off but he keeps coming back for more.
They go for easy pickings; if you can button up the access point you’ll get them (trust me there’s always a ‘them’) moving to easier accommodations. Good luck!

even when we can get Mom out early, we never see anything interesting. It’s better later when all the peeps are out. I might even get pet, or get to say hi to another dog. XOX Lucy

I’ll bet. Hissing racoons always got me on edge.
They do make a chittering sound that can leave anyone a tad on edge.
We woke up yesterday morning to bear tracks across our driveway……actually appeared to be a BIG BEAR and a BABY BEAR trying to walk in BIG BEAR’S tracks…..they disappeared into the woods.

The raccoon sighting was near where we often run into bunnies. They have had ‘bunny on the brain.’
Then it is a good thing these were not bunnies!!

You just never know what will show up around here. Quite remarkable since we’re less than 3 miles from downtown Denver. 😲
I love it. We don’t get much but an occasional hare, and groundhog. My sister had a raccoon come and nosh on the cat food she leaves for the feral cats.
I absolutely love seeing raccoons. While those busy little fingers probably cause all sorts of mayhem, I just love how they manage to manipulate them around all sorts of things.
Me too! They do wreak all sorts of mayhem but how can we stay mad at the little masked trouble-makers?

I was pleasantly surprised they didn’t turn me into a human kite actually since that’s their usual MO for the bunnies in the same vicinity. Whew…lucky to have dodged that bullet…I was barely awake then! 😂
one night we saw our across the street neighbor out when we came back from a walk and he said, look out there’s a racoon in our front tree! he seldom if ever speaks to us so that was nice warning.

Haven’t seen raccoons for a while so it was a nice surprise early this morning and very surprised the dogs didn’t go nuts.
I know, right? The raccoons raiding the bird feeders have been driving my dogs crazy in the middle of the night. We’ve started taking the feeders in so we can get some sleep! Crazy raccoons.
Holy cow! These guys look pretty healthy (i.e. chubby) so they’re clearly finding stuff to eat. The dogs couldn’t quite figure out just what they were and luckily decided not to turn me into a human kite to find out.
