Monday Musings ~ February 15, 2021

Happy Monday. We hope you had a lovely Valentine’s Day. Norman’s kissing booth was up and running all weekend and because it was so cold, he was more than happy to cuddle. Elsa said, “you can kiss my…”  She is not amused about posing for photos and is no longer even subtle about her displeasure. Norman makes up for her camera shyness, readily posing. It didn’t take him long to figure out there are high value treats when you pose. Apparently Elsa thinks nothing is high value enough.

While yesterday was Valentine’s Day, after working for 87 years in the legal field, today’s cartoon made me chuckle.

Smile

Valentine's Day

We hope you have a ‘pawsome’ Monday and a warmer week than last. While it’s still in negative territory this morning (-2ºF, with windchill at -11ºF at publication), it’s supposed to hit at least 25ºF by early afternoon. Good thing too, there are some very bored Ranch hands who haven’t been able to enjoy any walks. And we all know what happens with Ranch hands are bored…don’t we, Elsa?

Live, love bark! 🐾

  1. Oh, Norman, we are so happy that you are such a good sport – that really made us smile! ♥
(Luke is more in the Elsa camp as far as photos go these days)

  2. I understand. Benji is not fond of photographs and tends to turn his face away if I point the camera at him. I find it best if I kind of sneak up on him.

    1. Stealthy camera skills are an absolute necessity with some pets. Please give me favorite ‘Down Under’ boy a nice ear scratch.

    1. It is funny how different our fur-babies are on so many things. Because of her puppy mill days, she’s complicated on many different levels but we love her all the same. P.S. I’m very jealous you are able to get sweet photos of a black kitty. Black pets are hard enough to capture well without photo reluctance. 😉

  3. Norman, you just stole petcretary’s heart!! But we know you won’t leave your Mom to join us…

Elsa-who-not-wants-to-pose, is like Angel Pipo was…I have tons of reasonable images of when he was younger, but the older he got the harder it became…he would avert his eyes at best, or lower his head and hide it under his tail…

We had 7 or 8 inches of snow, and now we are into the deep freeze, with forecast low of -11F.

    1. Gosh, that’s a nice dump of snow. I’m rather jealous. March is when we usually get the big ones so we’ll see what nature has to offer. The mountains are getting lots of snow which is good for filling reservoirs.

Norman is a total sweetheart, hard to fathom his family gave him up. You described Elsa perfectly. Being a black dog makes her hard to photograph anyway but her reluctance makes and getting any images more challenging. But she’s a real pill and fills my heart with some cherished memories. Stay warm…spring should be just around the corner. 🤞🏻

    1. Elsa has gotten worse with age. It’s ok, clearly it upsets her and Norman more than happily will steph in for his sister. Lots of snuggles and cuddles on V-Day which helped us all stay toasty warm.

    1. Thank you Caren. He’s such a natural and friends keep telling me he needs an agent. They’re probably right. Hope you’re staying safe and warm. 🥰

    1. We’ll send digital kisses to you and Kosmo. Only about an inch. More exciting was the fact that we finally got into double digits! It reached 23F yesterday and should be close to 40F today.

        1. I’m a big fan of the smell of spring. It’s earthy and full of hope. This morning’s 4-5 inches of snow greeted me (for which I’m very grateful). The trees were looking very thirsty. While it’s chilly, it’s not the cut right through you like a sharp knife kind of cold. I think we’re through the worst of it (though I note there’s snow in the forecast a few days next week. Temps will be pretty normal for this time of year. Stay safe and warm.

  4. Oh Norman, you knows Ma hearts you, rights??! Yeah, can’t say that I blame her….you are indeed a handsome fella! BOL! And, a smart one at that….who wouldn’t pose for some high end treaties??! just wise, I say. I hopes you guys gets some warmer weather soon…this kerazy cold weather is just too much for too long! Then again, you can all come overs here…it’s a balmy 58…butts, it’s raining. Still, I can set up the bbq and start the margaritas! 😉
Stay safe and warm my furiends
    Kisses,
    Ruby ♥

  6. That’s a funny cartoon! Love it! I’m glad it is warming up a little bit for you. Hope the trend continues. Those are some brutal temps you’ve been having.

    1. Indeed. It was so cold it hurt to breathe the air. We managed 23 today which almost seems like a heatwave. 😊

  7. Could Elsa help Max out with his squirrel problem? On the lines of the best Westerns…the stranger rides into town – or the neighbour’s backyard – kills randomly, blows nonchalently on the gun and rides out…or into the saloon next door.
Norman is a cutey….I was reading the post to Leo and the idea of the thugs in a kissing booth amused him heartily…one lunge from Podge and there goes your nose…

    1. Elsa would volunteer on a heartbeat! She despises vermin tree rats.

You make Podge out to be some fearsome fellow.

  8. Norman, you are just so adorable!!!

We will be lucky if we make it to zero today, and overnight is supposed to be brutal. Down to -10 last night:(

Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber

    1. Hopefully it will start to warm up soon. I think we’ve finally reach double digits now. 🥶

    1. Norman’s a total natural. Elsa’s the poster child for the saying “you can’t teach an old dog new tricks.” 😕

  9. Looking good, big boy. We yield the title of Most Costumed Dog to you. At least you didn’t try licking the metal sign post and getting that tongue stuck! Don’t worry, soon your DogMom will be grousing about heat and humidity again.😁

    1. Probably…at least on the heat index. We all will be grousing. As a black dog, Elsa does not fare well in heat and both dogs have become acclimated to the moderate temps on a new sofa.

  10. Oh what a cutie photo of Norman – he looks like he’s saying “Mom….gimme a break….take these heart thingies off my head!)………and that cartoon is hilarious!

    Hugs, Pam

    1. He never seems to mind headgear of any kind. He wore the ‘necklace’ for a while after while I tried to coax Elsa. Alas, she say, no how, no way.

  11. Love the cartoon. I can so relate to working in the legal field. It’s like playing chess most of the time.

I love Norman. He’s most handsome and I’d give him lots of kisses if I could. I linked this post to Awww Monday. Can’t get any cuter than this shot.

Have a woof woof day and week you two. Big hug to the mom. ♥

    1. Aww, thanks, Sandee. He’s one big lovebug. Working in the legal field should come with hazard pay. Never could decide who was more messed up, the clients or the attorneys trying to fix what they messed up in their lives?

  12. We had about 3 – 4 inches of snow during the night and now the sun is out, shining brightly from a clear blue sky. It would look gorgeous were it not for the broken trees. Just now it’s 10 F.
    Take care, and stay warm,
    Pit

    1. Wow, that’s unusual snow-wise, isn’t it? My daughter in Houston received a couple inches or so. Here it’s a bright blue sky too and {hopefully} we should reach mid 20’s by early afternoon.

  13. The Golden K Krew is a little peeved at me, the California wimp, who won’t walk when it’s below freezing. Cant even imagine 11 below! How can you tell the difference from zero or even 10 above!?? It’s been cold and wet and my red girls are getting a little antsy and bored with rainy day recess. Wishing you warmth and wellness this week at the Ranch.

    1. You’re absolutely right, below 15ºF I can’t really tell much of a difference. Same above 85ºF-it’s just ‘hot.’ When I took the Ranch hands outside for a potty break yesterday afternoon, it hurt to inhale. And my face felt like tiny little daggers were hitting it. Not my idea of a pleasant Sunday afternoon.

  14. We are ready for slightly warmer temperatures here, too — poor Tegan freezes, even when we put her in her fashionable coat. Luckily, she and Zoe haven’t torn the place up too much as they try to burn off energy by running laps through the kitchen. Although there is now a groove in the floor tile…

    1. Restless dog syndrome is real…and chaos usually ensues inside. Luckily it’ll be warm enough to go out for a walk this afternoon. My guys need to expend some energy in the worst way! Stay warm sweet Tegan with ear rubs for precious Zoe.

    1. Elsa’s like the Marlene Dietrich of dogs, just a bit shy. Unless you’re a squirrel, then she’s all King Kong.
