Welcome to “Read Across America Day.” Created in 1998 by the NEA, the celebration was created as a way to encourage children to read. Yesterday marked the start of National Reading Month which focuses on motivating kids to read. The annual reading day has typically been held on March 2, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Even Blogville is celebrating today so be sure to check your favorite blog.
Around the Ranch, “Thing One” and “Thing Two” will celebrate (as soon as they wake up from their latest naps). I recently ordered a couple new dog books and today seems like the perfect time to begin reading them. Having Thing One and Thing Two in my lap will make it all more fun.
We hope you’ll celebrate today by reading a book to a child but a fur-kid will work too. Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss.
Live, love, bark! πΎ
Charlee: “Our Dada says, ‘Reading is fundamental!'”
Chaplin: “Apparently they used to say that a lot in the commercials during Saturday morning cartoons when he was a kid, which seems faintly ironic …”
LOL Now that you mention it, that is ironic!
Aww, this is so sweet … thanks for sharing, and Happy Dr Seuss Day!
Thanks, Ann. It’s always fun to pawticipate and for such a good cause. π

Reading is and always has been my most favorite leisure activity – I have also always enjoyed reading TO children. Having published two kids’ books it was pure joy to read to a room full of little ones at a book signing. Learning to read opens up a HUGE world to kids. Hope you enjoyed celebrating with your Thing 1 and Thing 2 !
Hugs, Pam
Enjoyment is always a by-product with Thing One and Thing Two. Youβre so right, reading opens up the world for readers of all ages.
mission completed… thing one slept, thing two disappeared… probably the wrong book, the mama picked ;O)
Bwahaha. Itβs hard for for βThingsβ to act in concert unless itβs mischievous, then theyβre in sync. π
Reading is so wonderful! Mom read Dr Seuss when she was a kid and read them to our human siblings and she has even read them to Us! We love your Thing 1 and Thing 2 Have a marvellously Happy Dr Seuss Day!
You guys hit the nail on the head. Reading is such fun and can take you to amazing places.
I love Dr. Seuss books. They are so fun for the kids.
Favorites of kids of all ages!
What a great post (and such cuties as Thing 1 and Thing 2). I love Dr. Suess ….so many favorites and my kids loved them too! I remember one year dressing up as Dr. Suess when I was an elementary principal and leading the kids on a book parade around the school. π
How cool was that?! Bet those kids still remember that parade. π
Aww thank you! I have some cute pics of it! π
Happy Dr. Seuss Day! XO
Thanks. We hope everyoneβs it to read a book today.
I’m all for children reading…but could politicians be encouraged to try too?
I think theyβre just reading the wrong stuff. π
That’a great idea, we are going to see if Mom will read a book to us, Thing 1, Thing 2, AND Thing 3 – oh wait, maybe Thing 4 with that new Dylan guy here:)
Happy Dr. Seuss Day!!!
Woos – Lightning, Misty, and Timber
Reading with a lap full of dogs makes for the best evening. π
Happy Dr. Seuss Day!
Thanks, Millie and Walter! We love our books π
Honestly, we are not a big reading family, but some books like Dr Seuss are definitely fun to read.
Theyβre definitely fun.
Dogs in the lap while reading is the absolute best!
Aw, so cute. A great celebration when they wake up for their 15th nap of the day.

Ha…more like 30 naps! These dogs have the cushiest life.
I’m working on The Cat in the Hat but it’s a tough slog with lots of big words.
Oh you! πππ
I took Phonics for Children. I can sound out the hard words.
Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! I had remembered it and then forgot!! I should have included some quotes of his today! Next week I will make up for it. π I love “Horton Hears a Who!”
That’s another good one! I’m kind of partial to “Oh The Places You’ll Go.”
That is another favorite of mine! π
π
“βThink left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!β Yes! Dr. Seuss definitely helped me to learn to read a million years ago and “Oh The Places You’ll Go” is one of my favs. Cheers to books and the joys of reading. β€οΈ
Amen, Cristina! And yes, “Oh The Places You’ll Go” is probably my favorite too. β€οΈ
Happy Birthday, Dr Seuss!
Happy Dr Seuss Day…and lets dig out all the books we have that he wrote. We have all of them…at least I think we do:)
Cool! Loved reading them to my kids and grandkids over the years. The more reading can be encouraged, the better kids will do in school I think.
We sure know how impawtant reading is!!!!! Love your graphic and Happy Dr.Seuss Day!
Thanks. You’re too kind. I see the image of Norman got cut off. π But it’s the thought that counts, right?
