National Read Across America Day ~ 2021

Dr. Seuss

Welcome to “Read Across America Day.” Created in 1998 by the NEA, the celebration was created as a way to encourage children to read. Yesterday marked the start of National Reading Month which focuses on motivating kids to read. The annual reading day has typically been held on March 2, Dr. Seuss’s birthday. Even Blogville is celebrating today so be sure to check your favorite blog.

Around the Ranch, “Thing One” and “Thing Two” will celebrate (as soon as they wake up from their latest naps). I recently ordered a couple new dog books and today seems like the perfect time to begin reading them. Having Thing One and Thing Two in my lap will make it all more fun.Dr. Seuss

We hope you’ll celebrate today by reading a book to a child but a fur-kid will work too. Happy Birthday, Dr. Seuss.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. Charlee: “Our Dada says, ‘Reading is fundamental!'”
Chaplin: “Apparently they used to say that a lot in the commercials during Saturday morning cartoons when he was a kid, which seems faintly ironic …”

    1. Thanks, Ann. It’s always fun to pawticipate and for such a good cause. 😍

  3. Reading is and always has been my most favorite leisure activity – I have also always enjoyed reading TO children. Having published two kids’ books it was pure joy to read to a room full of little ones at a book signing. Learning to read opens up a HUGE world to kids. Hope you enjoyed celebrating with your Thing 1 and Thing 2 !

    Hugs, Pam

    1. Enjoyment is always a by-product with Thing One and Thing Two. You’re so right, reading opens up the world for readers of all ages.

    1. Bwahaha. It’s hard for for β€œThings” to act in concert unless it’s mischievous, then they’re in sync. πŸ˜†

    1. You guys hit the nail on the head. Reading is such fun and can take you to amazing places.

  4. What a great post (and such cuties as Thing 1 and Thing 2). I love Dr. Suess ….so many favorites and my kids loved them too! I remember one year dressing up as Dr. Suess when I was an elementary principal and leading the kids on a book parade around the school. πŸ’š

  5. That’a great idea, we are going to see if Mom will read a book to us, Thing 1, Thing 2, AND Thing 3 – oh wait, maybe Thing 4 with that new Dylan guy here:)

    Happy Dr. Seuss Day!!!

  6. Aw, so cute. A great celebration when they wake up for their 15th nap of the day.

  7. Happy Birthday Dr. Seuss! I had remembered it and then forgot!! I should have included some quotes of his today! Next week I will make up for it. πŸ™‚ I love “Horton Hears a Who!”

    1. That’s another good one! I’m kind of partial to “Oh The Places You’ll Go.”

  8. “β€œThink left and think right and think low and think high. Oh, the thinks you can think up if only you try!” Yes! Dr. Seuss definitely helped me to learn to read a million years ago and “Oh The Places You’ll Go” is one of my favs. Cheers to books and the joys of reading. ❀️

    1. Amen, Cristina! And yes, “Oh The Places You’ll Go” is probably my favorite too. ❀️

    1. Cool! Loved reading them to my kids and grandkids over the years. The more reading can be encouraged, the better kids will do in school I think.

    1. Thanks. You’re too kind. I see the image of Norman got cut off. πŸ™„ But it’s the thought that counts, right?
