Hey there sports fans, Sam here with a new treat mom found and whipped up for me and Elsa last week. Boy, are they ever tasty. And so easy to make, once you’ve chilled the dough.
Peanut Butter~Pumpkins Treats
O-kay mom, I promise to share with the Ninja, but not before I share the recipe with our readers.
You’ll need:
- 2 cups whole wheat flour (unless your pooch is sensitive in which case substitute to one he can enjoy)
- 1 cup of oats
- 1/4 cup of peanut butter (make sure it’s Xylitol free)
- 1/3 cup of pumpkin (the real stuff, not pie filing)
- 1 cup water
In a bowl combine all ingredients and mix until well combined. Press dough into a ball, wrap in plastic and refrigerator for a few hours or overnight like we had to do. I almost lost my mind waiting. Sheesh mom!
When your dough is well chilled, lightly flour your work surface (using the same flour you used in the dough), roll out until about 1/2 inch thick. Cut out with cookie cutters or the mouth of a small glass. Arrange on cookie sheet. You can put a jillion of them on a sheet since they don’t expand. Mom always uses parchment because she’s lazy about cleaning off the sheets to avoid sticking. Optional: Apply an egg wash to top of treats. We skipped the eggs, I was already too excited to wait any longer. I already had to wait overnight. Bake at 250ºF for 25-30 mins. And for the legal beagles to keep us from getting sued, remember to allow your treats to cool before serving. Make sure to refrigerator to keep. Mom likes the idea of freezing to keep them safe and the treats crunchy for us. Gimme a treat, gimme a treat!

I make a similar cookie and throw in some mashed banana and shredded carrot. My guys go nuts for home baked treats.

Oh Mia, you are just adorable. Mom has a whole collection of cutters from when she sold her treats. We even have a Labrador and a Dachshund.

OMD, those sound FABulous!!!! Nows, Ma is gonna have to clean the cobwebs outta the oven furst….that might take a while. Maybe she can do it while the dough is ‘chillin”! I thinks she can do this, butts I have my doubts. It’s been furevers since she’s made me any cookies! Sam, you are one lucky puppers! Maybe I can just move in with you guys….you won’t even notice I’m there…..okays, that’s a lie. BOL!!!

We have other recipes that are better when uprights want to taste them but this one isn’t too bad. 😋
Can’t give my girls pumpkin – even just a little bit messes up their poo. And the peanut butter aggravates Shadow’s reflux. Bummer! That’s why I stopped making their treats a few years ago. They loved the taste but I didn’t like the side effects. I give them the Sojo’s Blueberry Cobbler treats now.
Oh, that’s too bad. Can they have oatmeal?
Oatmeal is fine, or I should say oats that have not yet been made into oatmeal. I’ve even given them a teensy bit of cooked oatmeal from time to time.
It’s a shame to have to tell something that should be common sense to avoid getting sued. You’re putting the Darwin Awards out of business.

I don’t Michael, the recipe didn’t have nutritional values with it. I realized one critical ingredient was somehow missing fro the most-1 cup of water! Gah, not sure how that happened. Anyway, I suspect not very many since there are few ingredients. Looks like mom needs a better proofreading editor or to stop posting in the middle of the night. *Sigh*

No worries, thanks anyway. They sure do look yummy. Maybe I can get Holly to fix some up for me 😉 as am not adept with baking or cooking unless it involves getting meat and chicken to the proper temp on an open fire.
It’s super easy, you just have to have enough time to chill the dough before cutting them out. In the scheme of handmade dog treats, this one is good but some of the others I’ve posted at the Bone Appétit page are much better. 😇
Oooh, very quick and easy. S&D are jealous that your mom bakes for you. I typically only bake for me. 😉
