Wilson: This week we’re doing a Farmer’s Market kind of nature thing since our veggie garden is in full harvest swing. Mum always plants a couple of tomato plants and this year they’ve been doing quite nicely. Just look at those little red beauties.
Wilson: Harumph…well it’s certainly not like I got a chance to nosh on any. How come you don’t let me be quality control, eh, Mum?
The Mum: Hmm, not sure why I haven’t offered any to you. I have given you multiple strawberries and you seem to have enjoyed them.
Wilson: Good thing you took a photo of those berries when you did because they were gone the next morning. Seems as though some little critter ate my berry!
The Mum: Now, now…it wasn’t your berry per se but I share your disappointment as I was hoping for a fresh strawberry snack myself that morning with breakfast.
Wilson: Excuse me, you at least have thumbs to obtain snacks. Pardon me if I’m not very sympathetic.
The Mum: My goodness…stop waxing on about a single little strawberry. What else have you got?
Wilson: After enduring such a huge gastric loss, I guess I can share a bit of exciting news about your fig plant who continues to do extremely well. I think I need to host a naming content for this little guy. Every sports team in the country bids out their stadium/arena to corporate interests so I’m officially accepting name suggestions. Best treat…err most popular name wins. This guy is doing so well I can’t just keep calling him ‘the fig’ any longer. He’s nearly fully ripened. We must fill this opportunity and name this dude. And the good news is it won’t cost you a shilling. So leave your name suggestions in your comment.
And at last count, there are about a dozen little nubs waiting to join this ripening bad boy in my belly!
The Mum: I’m not sure you’ll be getting a fig, but I might be persuaded to share a tiny taste with you. How’s that sound?
Wilson: Sheesh, Mum, you’re getting pretty stingy in your old age. I thought Farmer’s Markets were supposed to be more community minded, as in sharing all the harvest.
The Mum: {purposely ignoring the snark} Speaking of community minded as in sharing…look at this basket of nectarines shared by a nearby neighbor who placed it on the sidewalk with a note to enjoy their bounty. How sweet was that?
Wilson: Very sweet indeed. As well as generous. I note the sharing aspect of that neighbor, maybe you should be willing to share some of your figs with a certain floof. Just saying.
The Mum: Let it go, House Pony. On another neighbor’s yard, I’ve noticed that garden that we walk past every day on our walks. Their front yard is covered with a Little House of Horrors style vine that’s spreading all over the place. And this guy is starting to get big. He’s going to make a lovely Jack-o-Lantern.
Wilson: What a lovely shade of orange. I guess this neighbor is preparing for the whole pumpkin spice season which was launched this week.
The Mum: I heard that Starbuck news. What can I say? I’m sure corporate America will figure out interesting ways to jump on the bandwagon, creating heaven only knows what kind of food, drink, snack or candle fragrance.
Wilson: I’m good with plain ole pumpkin myself actually. For our final photo, we offer a beautiful rose especially for our friend, Rosy. Mum took this pic shortly after an early morning shower a couple of days ago and oohed and awed all the way home about it. Yes, it’s pretty, but I was more interested in what’s for breakfast. We wish you all a very wonderful weekend. Our family is going to have a family reunion with all 5 generations attending to celebrate Mum’s dad’s 95th birthday. I know there’ll be lots of treats there. This year they are doing a Mexican food with margaritas theme to celebrate with him. Ole! Please pass the tacos and don’t forget to have a wonderful and safe Labor Day weekend. Finally, may your college football team have a splendid season opener.
Live, love, bark! 🐾
Oh my goodness, all our mouthes are watering after this delicious post…and the rose is breathtaking!
Thanks. This year’s bounty has been pretty tasty as well as beautiful.
Your garden looked fabulous! Ours was an almost total flop. My husband is finally getting some tomatoes, and I got more snow peas than I could give away. The “poblano” peppers I bought — weren’t. They are small yellow things with no taste.
It’s been that kind of summer. Bleh. Hope fall is better.
Thank you-you’re too kind, Amy. While it’s been ridiculously hot this summer, it’s been perfect weather for the few veggies I’ve planted. This past week with the cooler temps and afternoon showers were wonderful. But boy thew work to keep everything watered has been such a chore. I cannot imagine, nor do I want to know, the per pound price of all those cherry tomatoes! Yes, I’m with you…hoping for a lovely autumn. Which can’t happen soon enough in my opinion!
I was thinking you were on a blog break or somthing because I was getting nothing in my inbox. Then I saw that Marc shared a post on Twitter and I thought… hmmm. Well, dammit! Effin WP decided to unsubscribe me to you! What the hell? I am NOT pleased.
However, I am most pleased to see these beautiful offerings and what? FIGS!! That is fantabulous! Jealous over hear…
So, apologies if you happened to think I was dissing you. I was not getting any notifications 🙁
Well phooey on the WP gods for doing that! Thank you for re-subscribing-I appreciate it. I noticed earlier this week in fact there were some issues with my own subscriber list. It’s like they took email subscriptions and reader subscriptions and shuffled the deck. What part of I don’t do ‘Reader’ doesn’t WP understand. Ugh.
P.S. I knew you weren’t ghosting me. I am such a luddite when it comes to technology things and have no idea what goes on behind the scenes-especially when WP doesn’t seem to provide notice anymore when they are making changes on their platform. I miss the good old days when they were a lot more friendly about stuff like that. Since the advent of the Block editor I think they’re a lot less ‘friendly’ but the alternative, Blogger is worse-I despise Google and Blogger was a nightmare when I initially started blogging-that’s how I ended up at WordPress. No worries, you’re back in the fold and hopefully there won’t be future snafus.
Big time phooey! WP is just not trustworthy. I was wondering what I had done to get dissed 😉
I am still avoiding block like the plague – and am luckily still able to use the classic.
So happy I am to be back in the fold!
I’m very happy too that you’re “back in the fold.” With Block, there’s bound to be compatibility hiccups for those of us using Classic. I moan about it but constantly have to remind myself it’s quite remarkable to be in touch with people all over the world even when technology makes that contact challenging. 😉 Hugs and tail wiggles from us both.
That is a good way to look at it. Having these conversations with people all over the world is a marvellous thing. Friendships have been formed and those not part of this blogging world can’t understand it. Coolest thing!
I’m working on not letting little things irritate me as much. Some days are harder than other (and usually involve tech things 😆). In the overall scheme of life, it’s just silly to let those things bug us. I feel like the connections and friendships I’ve made through blogging have so enriched my life and I’m ever grateful for it. xxoo
I feel ya! There are days where it is super easy and others it can just roll off our back. xoxo
Lulu: “Soon it will be tomato time! And here, it is already fig time! We have so many figs, rumor has it that Dada is planning to make fig pancakes in a little while!”
Java Bean: “Rumor also has it we will not get any of them …”
Fig pancakes? Sounds totally delish. It’ll be a while before we can possibly have enough to do anything other that have a taste but considering we’re at a mile high elevation, I’m just excited for the one little ripening fella.
Thanks for the photos and weather update. I hope your temps stay in that lower comfortable range. I’m not a fan of figs, so Wilson can have any you were saving in case I dropped by. As for a name, I’d go with Figgy. The tomatoes, on the other hand, I’d take all you were willing to offer. We’re still waiting on ours to wake up and ripen.
Figs seem so exotic but I’m sure I’d tire of them if there were many. The tomatos loved the hot temps and cool nights-it’s perfect weather for them. I think I may make some gazpacho for when the temps climb again. P.S. Wilson expressed his gratitude for the “Figgy” gift.
It’s the day after yesterday, we didn’t get to visit … maybe t’was a good thing cause we had no food (needed groceries) and I’d have been licking the monitor!!! OH NO! Bye now. Sorry, we’re back, we ordered delivery of groceries, got lazy. Bye for real now.
Glad you managed to get groceries. For some reason it seems harder to keep the larder well stocked. My son’s partner made some gazpacho and what a treat. I may try some with all the little cherry tomatoes I’ve got!
Wonderful photos. Hope you have a great weekend. XO
Many thanks, Ellen. It’s going to be a wonderful weekend. Hope yours is equally as fantastic!
Have a wonderful reunion! – with plenty of treats for Wilson, of course.
Thank you, Helen. He’s sure counting on it. Have a great weekend and give the thugs a nice ear rub from me.
Wilson, Wilson, how does your garden grow? Look at those tomatoes!
Hee. hee…it’s funny-I gave him one this afternoon. You’d have thought I gave him a lemon. I guess he was expecting a nice juicy strawberry, not a tasty cherry tomato! Have a great Labor Day weekend with all the kitties.
Firstly hope you have FUN at the family event! I bet you do!! Secondly we were going to suggest Figaro but OF COURSE everyone in the entire universe suggested that so we’ll go with our #2 of “TWIGGY” (the FIGGY). Tee Hee All the veggies in your garden look HAPPY. Very happy!!
Hugs, Pam (with Teddy)
Thanks! It’ll be so much fun for the family to spend this monumental day with Dad. Second…we like all the news that have been suggested. Looks like Figaro is “trending!” Haha We hope you have a great Labor Day weekend!
The colors! The yumminess! The sharing! The wonderful gallery of captures on yet another Fantastic Friday in Nature! And did I mention how hilarious your handsome boy is? Even when he’s not trying to be. Or maybe he is, you never know with this fellow.
The family reunion and birthday celebration sounds like the ideal way to say goodbye to summer. And I mean, don’t let the oven door hit you on the way out summer season! Been nice knowing you but I much prefer the current agreeable temps where I don’t walk outside and melt.
Have a great time guys!
Thanks so much, Marc. I like the idea of telling summer just that about our temperature preferences. I’ve been so sick of pizza oven temps so mid 70’sF have been just divine.
Yeah, the resident floof is a funny guy. Especially when he’s not trying. Have a super Labor Day weekend. I’ll hoist a margarita (or two) for ya.
Seriously.
The running is sublime when it’s jacket weather. Now, I will admit that I do not mind the heat one bit when it comes to running because it makes me feel as if I ran a marathon but . .this temp rocks.
He’s the best. As are you.
Salud!
I love how your fig is progressing. I hope it is protected from evening intruders. I’m anxious for you to taste its glorious flavor. I love the name another poster gave it “Figaro” creative and classy. See you tomorrow 😘
Isn’t it adorable? I squeal every time I see new growth. ‘Figaro’ seems to be a fan favorite. See you in a few hours. xxoo
So lovely to hear the temperatures have dropped sweet Wilson and the tomatoes, strawberries, figs and nectarines all look delicious! ❤️ Happy 95th birthday to your mum’s dad and a wonderful weekend to you all 🤗❤️🐾 xxx
Many thanks, Xenia. We’re very excited about this celebration-all 5 generations will be there! It’s been so lovely with more moderate temps. The summer heat was wearing us both down. We hope you and Bria enjoy a lovely weekend in the Highlands.
We are going to call your plant…Figaro! Then we can all sing its name. And come on, Mom Monika, share those berries with your good boy Wilson. (We’ll collect our reward later, W., if it works.) XOX Chia and our pack
Figaro…I like it! Wilson gets his fair share of berries and today he even ate his first tomato. I’m sure it wasn’t what he was expecting judging by his expession. I wish I’d have filmed it-it was priceless. Happy 95th birthday to your grandma. I hope she has as much fun seeing you all as we’ll have. Have a safe and wonderful holiday weekend!
BOL, Wilson and his first tomato. We love tomato! Let us know if he eats it again. Our Grandma is nice and likes dogs. But she’s in a wheelchair and asks the same question a lot…we’ll have to pretend we’re Lexi and be therapy dogs! XOX Xena and Lucy (Chia has to stay at the rental house)
Have fun with your grandma and give Chia an extra nice ear rub after your visit.
A great tour, Monika. Fresh tomatoes. Nothing like them. Your strawberries look delicious. Too bad they were stolen. My name suggestion is Figgity Fum. I hope you and Wilson have a super weekend.
Glad you enjoyed it, John. You’re so correct-there is NOTHING quite as tasty as freshly grown tomatoes. They beat the grocery store variety hands down every time. Figgity Fum…that made me smile. Have a great Labor Day weekend.
Of course the obvious is figaro…I am jealous of your fig and tomatoes. But we have cooler weather too, it’s so nice! Have a wonderful party and weekend!
There’s almost a groundswell for Figaro. I’ve never had a fruit bearing fig (only the fiddle leaf variety house plant so this has been a great adventure. I always plant my tomatoes in pots, mostly to annoy and vex the squirrels. This year’s varieties were different from the Cherry 100 I usually plant but I’ve been mostly pleased with the taste of the replacements. I’ll need to get to the greenhouse sooner next year. We hope you have a splendid Labor Day weekend-tell Chester to take it easy and relax.
What a delightful garden you have! My black thumb salutes you.
I’d be upset about the berries, too.
Aww, thank you. You’re too kind. Just a few pots but have been very pleased with the tomatoes. Last year I packaged up a couple of pints of sundried tomatoes and they make a wonderful addition to pizzas and salads. Yum-they taste so much better than anythig we can get at the grocery. We hope yours is a wonderful weekend!
” fabulous weather with lower temps. I daresay it’s been downright wonderful, with small showers nearly every afternoon or evening this week.”
Lucky you!
What a wonderful veggie garden you have. Thanks for the pictures even if they make me envy you.
Have a wonderful weekend.
Thanks, Pit. After day after day of upper 90’s, it’s been so doggone wonderful to have temps in the 70’s. And the afternoon showers are making those few veggies we planted very, very happy. Have a lovely holiday weekend.
You have some beautiful looking produce growing in your garden, I’m sure you will enjoy it! Mom would like one of the nectarines, if you wouldn’t mind passing one through the internet. We too are enjoying cool weather and it has been wonderful. Have a Grand long weekend!
Thank you. The tomatoes and berries seemed to enjoy the hot temps. The lettuce was a bit scorched but I think I neglected to give it enough water. I’ll see if WordPress has a plugin for sending nectarines. Enjoy your holiday weekend.
We caught a bunny eating our strawberries back in Colorado. Tried a “natural” deterrent I read about of cat hair and used kitty litter. Hey guess what, it didn’t work!
Earlier this summer I bought an anti-squirrel ultra high sonic frequency device. I think my squirrels tagged it with graffiti. 🤦🏼♀️
Haha….LOL!
wow who ate your strawberry? we had such a case too and we have no clue who ate our berry… at least the mama wouldnt eat it because she saw what da nelly did LOL
We’re at least hoping it was the neighborhood bunny. So long as it wasn’t any of the resident hoodlums, aka squirrels. Your mama exercised good judgment. Have a super weekend!
Gorgeous rose, love the raindrops. 😍 Glad you are getting sprinkles and a break from the heat, whew! Sorry about a critter getting your strawberry… better keep an eye on your fig… it is even sweeter! My sister had to pick all her tomatoes early because something was getting at the ripest ones. It’s always something! Enjoy the big celebration for your dad – hoot, hoot! 🥳
Thanks so much for the celebratory wishes. These afternoon and early evening showers have been simply divine. I don’t mind the low hanging over our part of the country one bit!
That fig is in a pot so I can bring it indoors when the weather gets cold. It’ll be a lovely addition to the house plants. Have a terrific holiday weekend.
Congrats to your Dad on that special birthday!
Lovely fruit and veggies! Mr Fig looks like it loves where it is planted!
I don’t see your rose??
Have a great time at the reunion!
Oh, yes, now I see it! Gorgeous!
Thanks. It was a real beauty.
I have no explanation about why that pretty rose didn’t show up but once someone mentioned it, I went back in and re-added it. Thanks for the birthday wishes. We’re all so excited to be able to get together and celebrate with him. And there will be 5 generations-so very cool. Have a wonderful holiday weekend.
I didn’t see the rose photo but the veggies are just lovely!
Well phooey. I went back in and readded the rose. Sorry about that. Have a super Labor Day Weekend.
Sounds like lots of party time by you.Enjoy!
,
Yes…lots to celebrate. Good food, good peeps and everyone all together coming in from across the country. It’s going to be epic having 5 generations together! Have a terrific and safe holiday weekend.
Love all the vege photos. Made me hungry…gotta go see what’s for lunch. Don’t tell Wilson!
Hahaha…mum will be the word on the lunch plan and I’m not talking about me. Have a great holiday weekend.
