Whoa, welcome to the first day of June…I’m having a hard time wrapping my head around that little facct. Since the temps will be rising this week, I guess it’s safe to say we’re cruising in overdrive toward summer.
We had quite an encounter with a coyote Saturday morning. I think it was a female being protective of her pups; she went after a couple of folks with little dogs along the path. She took one look at Wilson and said, “umm, exit stage right.” It was definitely interesting and if you were slightly sleepy, it was quite a wake up call. Everyone kind of laughed it off but I think it would be safe to add coyotes to the “what outsiders think” column particularly in spring when there are new babies everywhere. Including Canadian geese…which makes them even more dangerous.

Yes geese are scary critters…when son #1 was a toddler, a goose strode up to his stoller and snatched a cookie right out of his hand, good thing the cookie was larger than the hand or he might have been badly hurt.
The coyotes here don’t bother me. I’m more afraid of a unleashed dog with a clueless owner about 40 yards away.
Yikes on the goose encounter. Those guys have so much gall. I go out of my way to avoid them.
Where we lived before me moved here, we had a lot of Canadian Geese as well, I guess we were the luckiest people they didn’t scare or harm when we were walking amongst them😺Swans with babies is another story🙈😹You’re a good doggie, Wilson, protecting your mommy so well😻Double Pawkisses for a Happy Day to you and your mommy too🐾😽💞
Oh yes, I remember those beautiful white swans in Germany. They make Canadian geese seem gentle!! Yup, learned very quickly to avoid them and utilize a long camera lens. LOL

Oh my gosh, that video was hysterical! I wouldn’t want to meet up with those ‘bigger geese.’ When I was in Germany, they were quite aggressive and I knew my place!
Those geese are here, too. It’s hard to avoid them but you have to try, or carry something to poke at them to make them back off.
They ARE everywhere and all of them seem to be cranky and foul fowl! Here’s hoping there are no encounters all week long. Have a great one!

Wow on the coyote! I am sure that did frighten the people with small dogs. Glad no dog hurt. Had to laugh at the coyote response to seeing Wilson. 😂

Canadian geese are just foul fowl! As for the coyote, I’m sure it was a mama trying to protect her babies who were likely nearby in the thick habitat off the pathway near the golf course. She only went after small dogs and took one look at Wilson and skeddaled. I felt sorry for her. With the arrival of spring’s new babies it has to be hard trying to keep them safe from humans. We try to be very respectful and give them all a wide berth. Can’t believe the year is halfway through. Where did 2026 go? Let’s just hope the rest of the week is geese-less for all. 😉

Thanks. I’m kinda behind again (what else is new?). My son and I spent the day installing ceiling fans, new light fixtures and hanging the last bit of art in the master bedroom. My inside projects are done (well for the most part-next week all the shelves will be installed-yay) and it’s only taken 6 months. I think it took me 6 years at my old house. 😂

As for geese, they don’t play. I’ve come across a goose or several during my runs and been chased a time or several. Swans too.
Wilson just went all Oprah trying to educate that coyote. Nobody threatens his mum.
Both swans and especially geese are hardcore. The most foul of all fowl. Let’s just hope for a geese-less week!

We’ve seen fox and coyotes on our walks in the early morning. The coyotes usually race away but the fox follow us and think they are being so sneaky. Glad no one got hurt or killed as babies change the whole picture. As for the geese we say either ship them back to Canada or kill them off. The are so very dirty, rude, mean and dangerous. Who cares if they are pretty, they ruin places people like to walk and swim, just awful birds.
Foxes are pretty crafty-we had them in our old neighborhood though less and less with all the density building. I loved watching them and would love to see one on our walks in the new neighborhood. The geese however are totally foul fowl (including but not limited to dirty rude, & mean). Usually they avoid Wilson but sometimes they think they can intimidate us. I just try to avoid them because I don’t want to step in their poop. Ick! Let’s hope the week is geese-less for us all! Happy Monday.
I’ve seen coyotes around here, but no encounters. I was chased and attacked by a mom goose who thought I was too close to her children (I wasn’t). We were sharing a bike path between the river and a canal. I waited until the goslings were on their way down the bank to the canal. Mom didn’t think I waited long enough.
Geese are vile and most foul. I’d take a crafty fox any day of the week. Have a ‘pawtastic’ week, Dan.

We have a lovely park and pond in town and I don’t think we have a lot of geese (thankfully) but lots of ducks. The pond/park is at a very busy intersection, and I love watching when a mommy duck and the ducklings decide to cross the intersection and all the cars just have to wait (and do, thankfully.) So cute.
Watching a ‘herd’ of ducklings with their parents is just the cutest. I swear the Canadian geese give us the

Same forecast generally for The Golden K. I like it hot so I’m ok with it. Nothing says summer in the foothills better than a warm starry night. I love that chart! Most of my experience with geese was on the golf course when I use to play and they were ornery caddies for sure.

I think they’re only really dangerous if you have a small dog or they are sick. They usually try to avoid human contact. May your Monday be completely geese and coyote free!
I’d heard about Canadian geese being a bit “overly protective” but that’s what Moms do right? LOL Around here the only predator we see (although a long time ago we used to see bears in the woods) is foxes. They frequently run through our front yard with a squirrel in their mouths – we don’t know where precisely it is but there’s obviously a fox den down in the woods behind us. That’s why we are always with Ted when we’re outside – always.

I think Canadian geese taked it farther than just protection. They seem to be naturally cranky and aggressive. I miss the foxes and althought people who have lived in this new neighborhood tell me they are around, I haven’t seen any yet. I laughed at your cartoon. Here we have black bear sightings. People go nuts. Bears are typically terrified of people and visa versa. This past week one was tranquilized and moved because he was finding food in a neighborhood. Not saying they are not dangerous but common sense should prevail. We have such a short supply of that these days. I love Canadian geese. I find them majestic but I give them a wide berth. We currently have two families that hang together. My heart melts when I see the 4 adults and a dozen little fuzzies walking down the street to the creek.
Goose babies are just the cutest and sort of make up for their cranky parents. There’s been a bear sighted not far from my house. I hope he/she stays safe. People flip out whenever they start roaming around people’s houses despite the fact they encourage them by not safely storing their garbage. Same thing with mountain lions. While I wouldn’t want to encounter one on the trail, they are incredibly gorgeous. I feel badly they and bears continue to lose habitat.

Geese, don’t tell me! We had over thirty of them, Egyptian and Emden, when in France….roaming free over the garden and islands……and strongly protective of both their eggs and their babies.
Their best moment was when the gendarmerie came calling during one of the bird ‘flu scares….they entered the gate, heading for the back door. The geese spotted them and they beat a hasty retreat pursued by over thirty outstretched necks and wings and much hissing!
{Snicker} Boy that must have been quite the sight. I don’t think I’ve ever seen Canadian geese not be cranky and aggressive. Hard to believe they’re called Canadians since Canadians are some of the nicest people in the world. Whoever named them, got it so wrong.
