OES Picnic snacks
OES themed snacks

Happy Monday, peeps. We enjoyed the rescue picnic over the weekend although a smaller than usual group attended. There was a rodeo just down the road from where the picnic was held and I’m sure there were many other events that competed with our get together but I think we did decently well with the silent auction baskets and everyone seemed to enjoy themselves. Here are a few photos from the event.

It’s never easy getting everyone in the frame let alone getting them to look at the camera. It’s always for a good laugh though.

As you can see it was a glorious day, but very hot. Most folks hung out in the shade.

Playtime for sheepies while their parents bid on the silent auction gift baskets.

There were lots of wrestling matches and/or dashes around the acreage, but everyone was well behaved. A small doggie pool was set up that helped cool off panting sheepies and frequently turned into a good sized drinking fountain for them. Trust me, that sight was not pretty since as soon as dogs cooled off in the pool and took a long drink, they were back chasing one another. The dirt build up in the bottom of the pool required multiple cleanings. Too bad we didn’t have something as pretty as this one.

Temperatures reached 90F (32.2C) and let me tell you, it was hot whenever you were in the sun. I was ‘James Brown hot’ with sweat pouring down my face despite wearing a wide brimmed hat.

All in all, everyone had a great time (Wilson opted to stay at home to avoid being too stimulated with all the high energy from the attending sheepdogs) but he apparently had a good time too. He was a good boy and didn’t get into anything.

We hope you had a terrific weekend. Stay cool and enjoy a fabulous week.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. A great time had by all AND great success! Sounds like you enjoyed a winner of a weekend Monika. Good on you for that. And to all the good peeps who came out and did the great good works as well.

As for that pool? Yes, that last image looks preferable LOL. Very Zen!

Thanks, Marc. Even though only about half as many folks showed up, it was a good time and it’s always good to catch up with our supporters in person with their dogs. That ‘pool’ cracked me up. That dog had bliss written all over his face. Happy weekend!

      1. Do you think it was the heat that kept them away? It was crazy hot here and is only now “going down” to the high 80s. Imma have to get out for my run early manana.

I would too! It looked amazing!

        To you as well mama

There are so many offerings every weekend, people get busy with FOMO but weather could have played a role. Who knows? Yeah, we’ve been out every day this week at 5:30 AM to avoid the heat. The bonus is that it’s very quiet and is music to my ears.

The ONLY way! We could hit triple digits this week. 😬

  2. Lulu: “Yep, our Dada would definitely have been hanging out in the shade too, and not just because that seems to be where all the dogs were. That would’ve just been a nice side benefit.”
Java Bean: “Ayyy, if Dada hates sunlight so much, why did he and Mama move to California?”
Lulu: “So they could adopt all of us of course.”

I don’t think there’s any moisture forecast for the next couple of days, just temps in the 90’s. Ugh. This morning was nice at 5:30 when it was 55. That made for a great walk!

The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. Today is cloudy and 68 at noon. A big change from our 90s. That looks hot! Wilson had the right idea but he missed some fun. Are those people cookies or dog cookies? Looks yummy! Hope you made some money. It looks like everything had a good time.

What a great temp after your heat. I wish we’d do that but it’s not in our forecast.

Those are people cookies. One of our supporters makes those every year for this event and they get gobbled up like crazy. They’re as tasty as they are cute. It was a great event and I think we did fairly well on the fundraising. Yay. Have a great Monday and enjoy the 68 degrees for me!

        Kate Crimmins says:

Good to know. Those cookies were too pretty. The dogs wouldn’t have appreciated them as much as people. They are predicting rain Wednesday through Friday here. We need it but not as much as you do.

          Tails Around the Ranch says:

Yeah, the dogs would have snarfed them up without tasting, no doubt. Most sheepdogs just gulp any treat without tasting.

Oooh, so jealous of your forecast. Enjoy the rain for me. We’re hoping the El Niño conditions kick in soon. The downside of El Niño is hot temps but we’d be prepared to happily accept the moisture.

We get the same effect. Warmer and rainier.

  15. I just bet Wilson did not miss the pool one little bit….

Nope, not even a teeny tiny bit. LOL We hope you have a great Monday, Helen.

  16. If it was that hot out, we would have rather stayed home in the A/C too. Water is not our thing and we have to be on leash unless there is a secured fenced area so fun would have been limited. Glad those who attended had a good time. Love the cookies, so cute!

Thanks. Aren’t those cookies adorable? That supporter makes them every year. So cute.

We’re lucky the hosts have the 2 acres fenced so everyone can run around and have a ball. Just wish it hadn’t have been as hot. Trust me when I say the shade was most welcome. Here’s hoping you have a wonderful Monday!

  17. Looks like a hot day but also a very cool one with all those OES’s running about and playing. In the rescue group my girls have come through used to do an annual play date for Goldens. So wonderful to all the dogs and hang with their like minded dedicated and loving owners.

It looks like Wilson enjoyed the opportunity to while away the day on his own with a major power nap.

It’s heating up here the NorCal foothills. Hope your week is calm, cool, and collected.

Our picnics have been a wonderful occasion for OES’s and their peeps to get together. We are blessed with receiving some incredible donations.

In Golden, CO (just up the road from us) they host Goldens in Golden every year. There were thousands in attendance this year. Check this link out: https://people.com/goldens-in-golden-2026-largest-unofficial-golden-retriever-gathering-11903043

Happy Monday, Mike and give the Golden Girls a good ear rub from me.

Yeah, it was toasty in the sunshine and at altitude it really take it out of you. But in the shade, it was quite lovely. Aren’t those cookies hilarious? We hope you have a fantastic Monday.

  19. What a fun time, but the heat is never welcome. Wilson is so handsome.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to Wilson. ♥

What a fun time. I rescued my pup Casey from a questionable breeder. Poor thing seems to have a lot of psychological problems left over, but we madly adore him. These pictures are beyond darling. the Retriever in the bucket of water–ha! That is a happy dog. And Wilson–he made a good decision.

Thanks, Jacqui. Yeah…Wilson gets really worked up in those high energy situations. It just makes sense to insulate him from it. And he definitely enjoyed the quiet. Bless you for rescuing Casey.

It was so hot, I almost was compelled to join the pups in the pool…till I looked at the mud at the bottom. LOL Happy Monday.
