Monday Musings ~ June 22, 2026

Hope all the Dads out there had a great day yesterday, which coincided with the arrival of summer. Got to spend a day with my Dad in triple digit heat but the joy it brought to him was well worth it.

Unlike many of you, summer is my least favorite season. I don’t do heat and it’s been hot here. How hot you ask?

Monday smile

Maybe I wouldn’t mind it as much if there haven’t been so many power outages. In the past eleven days, we’ve experienced six outages (two yesterday, in fact). Grrr. It’s been so hot, I’ve been thinking of making some special flip flops.

We hope you’re staying cool, or at the very least, comfortable with plenty of electricity. May your Monday be great and that your power stays constant during the hottest days this week. Enjoy the first full day of summer.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

Sadly heat waves are all over the globe. And Europe in particular doesn’t have AC’s like in America. I feel badly for you guys. Hope you’re starting to adjust to being without your boy. It takes a while to get used to their absence. No doubt he’ll be sending you signs that you’re being watched from above. Sending hugs and tail wiggles.

Thanks for the humorous look at our ability to deal with the heat.

I don’t blame you but I can always put another layer on if it’s cold. You can only take off so much. I just wish we weren’t having so many outages. Had another one a couple of hours ago. It’s ridiculous. Have a great week.

  2. Oh, Monika, I apologize that in the middle of your suffering with the heat I’m laughing so hard. But then again, this post is just so funny!

No apologies necessary. Our situation could be so much worse. Think Cuba. Have a good week with temps that you can live with.

Thats exactly what I told Xcel! And my neighborhood is all solar and new! It’s disgraceful a utility company can’t seem to keep power operational.

Last week was pleasant, high 70s. This week we are in the 80s (still good) but overcast with chance of rain almost every day. This is still good because we need the rain. We don’t have a 90 degree day in the 10 day forecast and that works for me. I like it warm but we got too hot early on and it kind of kills the spirit. I like to enjoy each season as it should be, not all mixed up.

I’m green with envy at your temps. You’re so right about hot temps arriving so early. Gawd help me, I’ve started the countdown to autumn and that seems to be rather sad. Hope you have a great week to buttress those good temps.

I know you would and I’m grateful for your generosity. We’re just going to have to suck it up. I’m contacting the solar company tomorrow to inquire about adding backup batteries. Had another outage today. It’s gotten ridiculous. Hope your week is fantastic.

  5. My Golden Life – Upstate South Carolina – I love animals, especially dogs. I enjoy US history, and reading biographies of our former presidents and other historical figures. I’m with Easy Weimeraner and Katty – I not only heard “the ding dong song”, I felt the melting heat too. These last few days it’s been pretty hot and humid here, too; but thankfully no power outages (yet). The Zs and I are spending limited amounts of time out in the back yard…even with the shade and breeze it feels pretty “sticky” out there. You and Wilson are welcome to visit our air-conditioned abode; but I can’t guarantee the a/c will last.

  6. Mom and we hounds are all with you feeling that summer is our least favorite season. We don’t like the heat. At least in the cold of winter you can add layers but in the summer you are stuck. We may make some of those flip flops for our mom 😉

Thanks, Mike. I’d settle for a couple of rain showers but cooler weather would also be appreciated. I had to chuckle at those flip flops. Have a fantastic week!

  7. I’m with you. Summer is my least favorite season. We did lose our power last week but thankfully, we didn’t need ac or even the fans. We were very lucky! Bring on Autumn!

  8. It’s mad even here – we were at 28C (82F) today, even now at 7pm . Wednesday is predicted to be 36C (97F). We, in England are not set up for hot weather so all sorts of bad things will, no doubt, happen… 🙁

I hear you. Most of Europe is not equipped for high temps. Folks in Germany, France and Spain are really being hit with a heat wave and I feel very sorry for them. Hope the temps subside soon. Have a great week.

  9. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.

Power outages are most disturbing, Monika. You would think someone could figure out how to build a grid that can sustain high and low demand. Try to stay cool.

      Tails Around the Ranch says:

Thanks, John. You’d think so, but alas I suspect it will get worse with all the AI data centers being built every where. Our electrical grid is woefully outdated.

      Have a terrific Monday!

  10. onespoiledcat – Virginia – We are Angel Sammy and Teddy......! Two ginger cats - one left for the Rainbow Bridge in December of 2016 (but still keeps in touch...) and the other in the "here and now" having lots of fun. Join us as we try to bring smiles to everyone around us with our blog.

Wowzers Meowzers! No A/C? Has to be brutal when it’s hot just like no heat is BRRRR in the cold. Love the flip flop photo – looks like a great idea – I’ll look on Amazon to see if we can order those before Summer disappears. So far here it’s not unbearable but then in Virginia we usually only have a couple of weeks of unbearable. Right now we’re wishing it would RAIN – we are in “severe drought”. Seems none of us no matter where we are are ever “ALWAYS COMFY” !!!! Hope things are better there SOON!

Hee, hee…I thought those flip flops were brilliant. Yeah no power during any weather event is no fun. Nature has been on a climate change bender and I expect it to get worse. Hope you and Teddy have a good week.

No power in high heat is the definition of hell – so sorry!! I hate summer as well. I’m not a heat person. Give me fall and spring with a little bit of winter until after Christmas is over and I would be a happy camper.

You and me both! Yeah, I called the pwoer company this morning for an explanation of why there have been so many outages lately. As I expected, not a very fruitful call. I feel like I live in Puerto Rico where the grid is renown for being crap.

Hope you hae a great week with your company. Enjoy!

No need to be ashamed. It is absolutely miserable being super hot and extra rough on the pups!

Thanks, it’s been ridiculous. Our electrical grid is so inadequate as it is and it’s very frustrating. Rate increases are approved left and right but they’re still having “transmission line” issues. What is this…Puerto Rico? I’m keep my fingers crossed we can withstand summer…only 92 days until the arrival of autumn. LOL Happy Monday.

Ugh, flooding in a basement is the pits. We lost all the carpet and about 3 feet of the drywall when there was a flash flood from a heavy rain storm. Had to cut the carpet out in small little squares to put in the trash bin. It was a gigantic cluster. My sympathies for your friends.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays as always.

    1. I agree that heat is hard to bear. I am in the U.P. for the first time (Michigan Upper Peninsula) and so far the weather is cooler than anyplace else I’ve lived. This is good because we don’t have air conditioning! I hope you cool down soon!

Living in the Denver metro area, we post about dogs, rescue and nature. So grab your favorite beverage and be prepared to howl along with our adventures. And don't forget to bark your 'pup-tacular' comment; we'd love to hear from you.

Yeah we whistled past ‘warm’ a long time ago. I cannot fathom what July and August are going to be like.

Glad you enjoyed the graphics. I also laughed out loud at the flip flops one. Too funny. Most of the early mornings are ok and that’s when I take Wilson on his walks, he’d never make it when the sun really gets going.

As always, thanks for adding us to your blog hop link. You’re always so kind. Thank you. Have a terrific Monday and week.
