Monday Musings ~ August 17, 2026

Happy Monday, Glitter Gremlins…hope you enjoyed a great weekend. For the record, it’s not spiders that bother me as much as that one nasty, buzzing all around your head mosquito while you’re trying to sleep. You know, the one you can’t seem to swat away and it’s too hot to pull the sheet over your ears so you don’t hear him but hey, I get it. This is what happens when you leave spiders alone…they likely will get that mosquito for you and you could be able to enjoy a nice rejuvenating sleep while they slink back into the dark places in the back of the closet. Just saying.

Here’s wishing you a peaceful night of sleep without any flying or crawling critters this week. Happy Monday!

Live, love, bark! 🐾

Glad you enjoyed the cartoon. We despise mosquitos all the time but especially when they come inside. They’re such a nuisance.

  2. I remember this one time we had this annoying mosquito doing its dance around our blankets and we matched the mosquito’s pitch and spent the next few minutes rapping 🤣🤣

Thanks, Nimi. I love that you were able to make an otherwise annoying visit into something fun. Good for you!

  3. Mosquitos love me, ugh!

As for spiders, I try not to kill them but there are times . . like the other day, when I just am not sure about a particular one. After I squashed him, I did have this idea that his peeps were watching. Me no likey.

LOL…that’s gotta make for some interesting nights on top of the bed with a bat. Around here there are lots of spiders, all harmless. 99.9% of the time black widows (the only one I know of that can be dangerous) live in dark, hard to reach corners of the garage-I can’t remember the last time I saw one. I think they avoid humans as much as humans avoid them. Truthfully with our lack of humidity I’m surprised there are any spiders.

      1. Hahahahaha!

Yeah I try to save them every chance I can but there are times when it’s not possible and then I feel bad. But I fear the brown spider and if I find that one bears too close a resemblance . . .

  4. BellaDharma an BellaSita Mum – On Georgian Bay..... – Welcome to THE Purrfect Pad. My name is Sherri-Ellen & my current Kitty Girl is BellaDharma a black part Siamese cat. I started blogging in August 2005 on Yahoo 360 with Mingflower my Bluepoint Siamese. Then transferred to Multiply...Mingflower went to Summerland & NYLABLUE my BluePoint Siamese/Burmese cross took over. When Multiply was closing a handful of our blogging friends recommended WordPress & we found a home here & made many new friends. Everyone followed the antics & struggles of NYLABLUE until her passing Nov. 22nd, 2014 to Summerland. A week later a little bouncing Burmese boy I met at a local adoption event joined me here! Dec. 9th, 2014. Purrince Siddhartha Henry came to live with me & regaled us with his journey towards 'Enlightenment'. He was a Burmese Buddhist with many health issues but he searched for meaning in his Life. After his lifelong struggle with Panleukopenia. Siddhartha Henry lost his battle & left for Pure Land August 28th, 2018. He was only 4 years & 1 month old. I've never totally gotten over the loss of my "Little Man". And this is where I get VERY serious. This Purrfect Pad blog is not all sunshine & roses. This blog is about REAL life with special needs cats who come into my life. We share our time together & we share the good, the bad & the ugly. This is a REAL blog. Yes we DO laugh & have fun & take Selfies! And we share each cat's struggles whether health issues or behavioural problems. And we share about my ongoing battle with 3 health conditions that can render me unable to walk plus having Cirrhosis of Liver & Seizures. We ask our friends & followers to respect that THE Purrfect Pad is anything but 'purrfect'. I am disabled & each of my cats' have had special needs. Everyone is welcome here as long as you are kind & respectful. If you have questions feel free to ask them. Sept. 6th, 2018 BellaDharma aka Baby Girl joined THE Purrfect Pad. We hope all of you will follow our life together as BellaDharma learns how to be a domesticated cat instead of a semi-feral one.... Love, Peace & Treets, Sherri-Ellen (BellaSita Mum) & BellaDharma & 'angels' Purrince Siddhartha Henry; Nylablue 'Sweet Feet' & Mingflower the Merciless & all my other cats who have shared my life with me. You are all loved & remembered...

Yeah, I draw the line with ‘skeetos’. They are beyond annoying!

  5. I love spiders and welcome them in my house, as long as it’s not a black widow or brown recluse. The wolf spiders especially keep houses pest free.

I’m with you. We have lots of wolf spiders and I love that they keep pests at bay. I’ve carried a few outside in a loose tissue and let them go in the mulch. I don’t even mind the black widows since they usually hang out in the garage and I can’t ever remember them in the house. Have a terrific week!

  6. That is funny. I like spiders so it wouldn’t bother me, but if it was a tick or something I would be like that.

  8. The amount of sleep lost for me is directly proportionate to how big the spider is, Monika. Then again, if my wife is also aware of any loose critter at all she will get her shut-eye…while I remain awake looking for it with both eyes.👀

Hahaha! There are some big spiders around the ‘Barn’ but a tissue works great taking them outside to reign chaos on crawly bugs…and I’m good with that. It’s those cotton picking mosquitos that get no mercy from me! Have a great Monday, Bruce.

  10. I hope you swatted him in the end. We seem to be over the heatwave with a much better 77F today. Warm enough for shorts and a T-shirt, but workable. I’m now looking forward to Autumn (Fall) and all of those hearty casseroles and stews 😀

Ahh yes, autumn (BTW, only 37 days-whoopee!). It can’t come soon enough. We’re heating up again this week after a few days of mild temps and a smidgeon of rain. Certainly not enough but better than a sharp stick in the eye. I’m getting ready to yearn for homemade soups on chilly nights. #paradise! Have a great weekend enjoying more pleasant temps.

  11. Julia – I am a retired software solutions architect. I have been married to my husband, Bruce, for over forty years. We went full-time RVing for 3.5 years and saw much of the United States. After deciding to stop RVing, we bought a ranch house halfway up a hill on five acres. After Bruce and I talked about names for our five acres, we settled on Blackberry Homestead as a homage to the wild blackberries on the hill. We are working on creating our homestead. I love cooking and enjoy sharing recipes. I am also an artist, and I’ll share my current projects. Gardening and reading are my favorite hobbies.

Glad you enjoyed today’s chuckle, Sandee. Wilson is no fan of flies but he seems to have depth perception issues. 😂 Thanks for including us in your Monday Blog. You’re always so kind to us. Wilson and I so appreciate you. We hope you have a wonderful Monday.

  18. Spiders. Out of sight out of mind? As far as flying creatures, our nemesis is the fly. 🪰 And when I say our, I mean Kloe. She freaks out if there is a fly buzzing around at night in the bedroom. Dad needs to hunt the fly down and kill it so we can all get a good night sleep. I’ve actually become quite good at it.

Off to vacuum the back of the closet. 😉 Have a great week!

Wilson is the worst fly catcher I’ve ever seen. But he is super entertaining with his feeble tries. Flies are annoying but at least I don’t have nightmares about contracting malaria or some other horrible disease like I do with mosquitos. Let’s hope we all are undisturbed by flying pests this week. Happy Monday, Mike!

  19. Jacqui Murray – Laguna Hills, CA. – Jacqui Murray is the author of the popular prehistoric fiction saga, Man vs. Nature which explores seminal events in man’s evolution one trilogy at a time. She is also the author of the Rowe-Delamagente thrillers and Building a Midshipman, the story of her daughter’s journey from high school to United States Naval Academy. Her non-fiction includes over a hundred books on integrating tech into education, reviews as an Amazon Vine Voice, and a freelance journalist on tech ed topics. Look for her next prehistoric trilogy.

I thought it was too but then I was ‘visited’ by a mosquito and thought I’d roll out a welcome mat for a spider who could rid us of the annoying little buzz machine. Happy Monday!

Camping…now there’s a topic that is full of unpleasantness once the sun goes down. The crawly things and the dirt…umm. hard pass for me! 😂 Wilson is pretty good when it comes to Orkin control but those doggone mosquitos really bug me (pun intended). Enjoy a bug-less Monday.

Teddy manages to get any bugs that sneak in when the doors open and close around here…..BUT this ‘toon reminds me of one of the reasons I did NOT like camping in a tent – BUGS!!!! EEEK.

    Hugs, Pam
