This ain’t my first rodeo…

Although this blog post was supposed to have been posted this morning before 8 AM, my stupid internet provider failed to cooperate (yeah…you heard me CenturyLink..you guys are charlatan greedy bastards). Come Monday, I expect a healthy credit to my account for paying for an internet signal that I haven’t been receiving much lately…grrr…but that’s for another rant time to discuss. Jeez, what IS it about internet providers that they all seem to drink from the same “let’s screw our long-standing customers the most” well?

Any-whoo…the real purpose of this post was to share the latest goings on in the Mile High City. As is typical for this time of year, the 109 year old National Western Stock Show opened this week. Also typical for this time of year, the weather turns ungodly frigid during this event but for the first time I can ever recall during Stock Show week, it snowed all day yesterday in addition to being as cold as Antartica (I tried to upload a video of the fresh falling snow yesterday but it was too large to insert here (or yet another SNAFU from aforesaid stupid internet provider). If you  so inclined, you can check out  the video from my Facebook page-https://www.facebook.com/oes.fan/videos/10208504798286126/?pnref=story). Frankly if you’ve seen one snow storm, you’ve seen ’em all but that’s for you to decide-some people can’t get enough falling snow-alas I’m not so much one of them.

Screen Shot 2016-01-09 at 10.04.58 AM Sam views large hoofed critters with more than just mild curiosity generally prompting a total Scooby-Do double-take like he did here. And had we attended the parade with him in tow, I can only imagine his reaction to a scene like this one. Those guys are impressive any way you look at it. It’s not every day you see a herd of huge long horns mosey-ing down the main street of a large metro city with assorted horses, wagons, etc. When I see these guys traveling down 17th, I know I DO a double-take-it’s just not your average everyday sight even for Denver.

Here’s wishing you a terrific weekend. We plan to snuggle and keep warm while cows, bulls, muttons and all form of 4 legged critters get wrangled at the rodeo. Since I took a spill on an icy path yesterday evening, I plan to nurse my bruised bum-side ego, drink hot cocoa and watch the world unfold on this first weekend of retirement as I try ‘learning’ how to ‘unlax’ and take it easy (happily accepted tips and tricks for that behavior-just saying).

Eee-haw everyone, here’s hoping you find your Western Spirit!

Live, Love, Bark! <3

  1. Ah, I remember the parade from my Denver years…never went to the stock show but I will admit to going to an alpaca show and a cat show at the stock show facility! ::grin::

It can be quite the event…and terrific people watching not to mention checking out all the assorted 4 legged critters! 😉

  2. Marty the Manx – I am a handsome Tortie Manx mix. I live with my brother Ralphie a Grey Tabby whom mom calls her "Grey Man". We also share our house with Mazie the big Yellow Lab, Abbe, Anne and Bree who are Chinese Crested Powder Puffs. We all live with our mom in Iowa in the United States.
    Marty the Manx says:

Ohhhhh I miss that! Hope you get to enjoy some of the fun!

  3. I like the rodeo but can’t imagine enjoying it in the cold. Ours- “The Worlds Fastest Rodeo” is in June when it is typically in the high 90’s. Enjoy retirement! I hope one day that word is in my vocabulary…

At least the rodeo part is held indoors but the parade can be brutal some years.

  4. Sand Spring Chesapeakes – Cambria, WI – My husband and I have six "furry" children Gambler, Glory, Guilty, Slammer, Gertie and one cat Bones and two furangel's Norman and Nellie. We breed Chesapeake Bay Retrievers. We are both avid hunters. We also enjoy competing with our dogs in hunt tests and field trials. That is where you can find us during the trial months which are April-September. When were not at a trial we are busy training our dogs. We go snow goose hunting in Canada each year and do all the hunting that Wisconsin offers.
    Sand Spring Chesapeakes says:

wow that would of been very cool to see.

  5. I’m really hating myself. Because at the sight of those magnificent animals parading down a city street, my first thought was: “Who gets the unenviable job of cleaning up the street when the parade passes by?”

And yes, it’s probably good Sam wasn’t with you. Of course, if he’s like most dogs, he might have been an enthusiastic pooper scooper. 🙂

Poop and stop is all part of the stock show. The city does a really good job with the cleanup and within a couple hours, all the barricades, litter and poop is gone and you’d barely know anything had sauntered by earlier. Personally I think the parade watchers make a bigger mess! Luckily, Sam isn’t much of a pooper scooper though he’d want to check the pee-mail for hours. 😉

Thanks, and know that I thought about your injury when I crashed and burned! Dang it, I’m not 15 years old anymore and have had enough broken bones to keep me very aware of that fact! Hope you’re well now that you’re back home. ღ

That looks like an amazing parade! Very exotic! I would definitely do a double-triple-quadruple-take if I saw it in real life! Mom got used to retirement instantly. As a teacher, she had 13 weeks of vacation every year for 35 years (51 years if you count when she was a student), so retirement was just summer vacation that never ended….

  8. All my days in the Mile High City and I never went to the show or parade. Okay let’s face it, I probably opted for a trip to Ikea instead. 😉

If it is any consolation your post arrived here in South Australia at 07:24 – which is before 8am – well in Australia anyway- also it’s Sunday. Yes I like to see – on video – fresh falling snow only for nostalgic reasons – childhood and growing up in Scotland, sleds, snowfights, snowmen.ice slides, but I don’t think I actually want to go back there :o) Sorry to hear about the fall. Hope it heals up soon – feet up, a warm fire and hot chocolate will help. Take care……

  11. happy retirement. For me it didn’t feel real for a while. Sit and stare time is needed. Recovery then excitement and growth and experiences and free time. LeeAnna
