After 10 months of lockdown, my mind and gypsy heart have been dreaming a lot of traveling again. Since the US is persona non grata throughout most of the world, the only way to go on a trip is through past photos and memories.
This beautiful kitty who seemed to be somewhat annoyed at my interruption of its vigil when I visited the Kommern LVR-Freilicht Museum located near Eiffel National Park not far from the Belgium border. In the LVR-large open air museum , you can experience all your senses learning how people used to live and work in the Rhineland and watch reenactments of life as it was yesteryear by museum employees.
On the almost 100 hectares grounds, there are 69 historical buildings from the former Prussian RheinProvinz, farmsteads, complete with farm animals, wind-and-water mills, workshops, communal buildings, and many reenactments of life of a rural population heralding from as long ago as the 15th century.
Despite a beautiful day here in the 303, my gypsy heart longs to be there enjoying this wonderful place today. I can practically smell the freshly baked bread from the hearth.
Simpler times and ones that would be especially welcome today. Happy mid-week.

Traveling presents its own set of issues when 4-legged family members are concerned. 😊
We very much miss traveling too……we were meant to go to Europe this past Summer then to Maine in October. Much has changed but the LOVE of travel is in our hearts and we can’t wait until we can do that again. That German village reminds me of a similar “outdoor museum” we went through in Ireland. It was fascinating in every way…..a simple life….we long for that these days!

Oh, to have such a simple life! though, Ma would miss indoor plumbing and washing machine and puter and wifi and…..okays, maybe just a VISIT! BOL!

I understanding wanting to travel overseas. Maybe you could satisfy your wanderlust right here in the good old USA. We took a couple of mini-vacations last year and stayed in great Air BnB’s. It was wonderful to get away (and from the pups for a short while too, but don’t let them know I said that).

Nice and practical…love that about you. I don’t think I could handle all the wood chopping to stay warm and cook.
There is that. Maybe we can share our space and the chores and make nice with the neighbour’s son, to have him come in and chop our wood for us?
That village/museum sure looks like a wonderful place to visit and dream of life and lives of long ago. Just trying to get by at times with no electric seems daunting enough, LOL!
I know! We have a meltdown when the cable goes out, let alone chopping enough wood to cook meals and stay warm in a drafty house.
Hopefully time will make all things at least a bit better. We hope to see our human brother and family this year since it has been over a year since they visited:( Your phototrip was very enjoyable. Thanks for sharing.

Sadly that’s true.
Leo is still planning on Mexico….whenever we are let loose from our ….but, like you, we are both enjoying going back o ver old trips we made.
That museum sounds a real delight…not just having thebuildings, but recreating the life.
Still, I orefer to have mod cons! Having seen my grandmother and her helpers doing the wash for family and farm hands it is not somethingi would like to recreate!
Life in the 1700-1800’s was definitely not easy (and pretty dirty with wide open hearths). I wonder if I could make it in that kind of hard work. I’m definitely spoiled with modern conveniences.
Mexico sounds wonderful-I’d go to Puerto Vallarta in a heartbeat once COVID gets better under control there.
He fancies the old silver towns….fair bit of research coming up re wheelchair access and charging batteries….or we could load him on a burro.

It’s the only overseas traveling that can be done these days. *sigh
Believe it or not, I’ve never been to Kommern, despite of having lived quite close to it all my life in Germany. I’ve been to more than one open air museum abroad, but not in my native Germany.
We miss our travelling, too, But – as you know from my posts – we did some short trips here. And next week we’ll go to Port A. again for a few days around Mary’s birthday.

Many are looking at cancelling their travel plans again this year. We didn’t make any because it appears this virus is going to hang around much longer. We will go to the boat and that’s a getaway. We’ll be happy with that. Now if it will just warm up some.

Yup, traveling (even if anyone would let us in) isn’t going to be possible for some time I suspect. Patience will be the watchword for some time.
