3-Day Quote Challenge – Dave Barry

We want to thank our friend, Rowena over at Beyond the Flow for nominating us to participate in the 3-Day Quote Challenge. Mom thought about it for about 87 seconds and then realized it could be a very cool way to check out some pawsome quotes by uprights about dogs.

Hi there, Sam here. Poor little Elsa was a little overwhelmed at all the nice things every one said to her yesterday so I said I got this one, li’l sis [appaws…graciously accepted here]. As her big brother, I just want to say many thanks for all your kind words. It means the world to mom who is absolutely rabid about spreading the word on the horrors of puppy mills.

So back to the quote challenge. Here’s the first quote mom found that made her smile. Dave Barry is a Pulitzer Prize winning columnist of whom we are big fans. We had gone to a large park in the city a while ago and took some photos of me in the gorgeous autumn light. I’m not prone to cocking my head very often, so she started making all these goofy noises and flapping her wings paws to catch my attention with the hopes of capturing a pic like this one. My thought was “WTH” is wrong with that woman? I have never been so embarrassed to see everyone in the park looking at her like she had lost her marbles. A dignified dog like myself has to maintain a certain level of decorum and poise and mom just blew my whole ‘cool dude’ reputation. Now I know how teenagers feel when their pawrents say or do something totally weird [insert eye roll here]. My mom…I think I’ll keep her. Sam“You can say any foolish thing to a dog, and the dog will give you a look that says, ‘Wow, you’re right! I never would’ve thought of that!’” — Dave Barry

Ever say anything ‘foolish’ to your dog? What was his reaction?

Live, love, bark! <3

  1. Thanks so much for taking on the challenge, Monika and Sam. This probably my most favourite photo of Sam to date. He is so cute and doing something silly or plying him with treats to get that look is so worth it!!
    xx Rowena

  2. I talk to Tallulah and Harper Lee the whole time we’re out for our morning walks. I’m sure the people in the neighborhood think I’m crazy. But I’m quite certain my dogs think I’m brilliant. 😉

  4. We love your head tilt, Sam! Mama loves to say silly things to us in the tone of voice she uses for “Do you want a cookie” and we give her the head tilt in hopes that we will get one!

  5. Despite my reputation as a bird brain, I never say anything foolish. I can always blame it on someone else because, after all, I just parroted what someone else said.

  6. Talk to my cats? I get scolded by them especially if I am a nano second late with dinner. They do think I’m great though. Especially when I have a can of cat food in my hand.

  7. Cool! This will be so much fun. I can’t wait to read your quotes. Mom talks to us anipals all of the time. We always look at her like she’s crazy – snorts with piggy laughter. XOXO – Bacon

  8. Say something? More like do something, just like your Mom did Sam, trying to get the right pose or expression for that perfect camera shot. We do make 2-legged fools of ourselves for you guys and gals.

  9. Say anything foolish?? ME???
Weeellllllll….. Cole to my knowledge never shared any of my silly talk to his friends so I’m not telling either. He cocked his head to us all the time and it is so endearing. LeeAnna

  10. Love your quote! Your head tilt is cute, S. I tilt when Mom says, “Wanna come?” Sometimes I think it’s just too good to be true that she’s taking me along, even though she takes me with her a lot!

    Love and licks,

Feel free to bark your thoughts...but no growling please.
