~ Tails Around the Ranch

Monday…again?! Gosh, where the did weekend go? Let’s hope it wasn’t in a wormhole. Here’s a little smile to start out the week with a chuckle.

Humor

Today is Indigenous People’s Day (sometimes known as Columbus Day) and is a national holiday in the U.S. We like that name better considering Columbus never actually set foot on U.S. soil. The traveling Italian from Genoa first made landfall in the Western Hemisphere on this date in 1492 on one of the various islands of the Bahamas and then Cuba and Hispaniola, establishing a colony on what is known as Haiti. Today we salute the native people of the Americas.

    I collected Benji in one of these and for a while he slept on the bottom (top off) part, next to the new bed I bought for him. The carrier is long gone and he now sleeps anywhere he likes :o)

  6. The Canadian Cats – Prince George, BC, Canada – I have been married for like AGES and AGES according to Shoko. A whole 47 years. Shoko is my only young'un. Bill and I have lived in Prince George, British Columbia, Canada for 34 years. Gardening is my passion and also Shoko's passion. Bill's passion is being included as a member of Shoko's family.

    Love the wormhole cartoon. So true! It must be confusing. Even though Columbus did sail around on his wee boat, we like the idea of honouring the indigenous people instead. In 1492 Columbus sailed the ocean blue….still remember this from school…..many moons later. lol

      It always struck me as strange that we were taught Columbus ‘found’ America. He never stepped foot on any US soil and native Indians were here long before he arrived in the hemisphere. That song will be my ear worm for the rest of the afternoon. 🤣

  10. Groovy Goldendoodles – VA – Just a wife and mother (military spouse / retired) that waited almost all her life for a dog of her own. Tried to have them from time to time with little children, but moving so often it was too difficult. Waited patiently for the right time and the right dog.... That time has finally arrived and we were blessed with the Grooviest Goldendoodles ever! Harley carried on with a "solo" act for almost a year after the untimely passing of 4 yr old Leo. Now he and his younger spunkier brother Jaxson plan to share all their canine adventures and antics living in pet friendly Charleston SC, exploring pet friendly places and pet therapy work at the Medical University of South Carolina.   18. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.
