Monday Musings ~ July 13, 2026

We’re hunkering down for the next few days while triple digits visit us. We only hope our few potted plants survive. Gardening this time of year has it’s unique pitfalls. Here’s Vince, the sign guy’s take.

Monday smiles

We hope everyone stays safe and hydrated. Keep smiling…autumn is a mere 71 days away.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. Java Bean: “Ayyy, this sounds like when our Dada was visiting his family in New York a few weeks ago! It was over 100 degrees and humid almost the entire time, except for when it was raining, so they pretty much stayed inside the whole time.”
Lulu: “Stay as cool as possible my friends!”

    1. You too, guys. Our temps may be high, but we don’t have the humidity like they do back east. Thank heavens.

    1. You don’t need to remind us about staying indoors. I’ve left all the blinds shuttered tight and left a garden umbrella open over the back door to keep the afternoon sun at bay. We’re counting down the days until autumn. This heatwave is ridiculous and simple can’t go away fast enough for us.

You’re not the only one with punsters. Vince does some hilarious ones. 😂

        1. Ugh…I’m so over summer. Try to stay cool; at the least enjoy the weather today.

  2. Vince has the greatest signs!! Stay safe there Monika & Wilson. We are going to do the same up here. It is already hard to breathe out. Worse than Winter air!!

    1. He really does. When my daughter lived in Indian Hills, I drove past the signs on the way to her house. A few times I pulled over to take pics log before he became famous with his Facebook page and became so popular. He’s a good guy with a wonderful sense of humor

    1. We’re always glad when we can bring a smile to folks at the beginning of the week. Try to stay as cool as you can. Have a good week.

    1. It would be nice if Mother Nature eased up but she’s going to be a stinker for the next several days. Boy is she cranky this summer. Have a great week.

    1. I know just what you mean. I’ve filled up my bird bath at least 3 times a day since the temps have soared. Thank goodness we can enjoy our 3 miles walk at dawn. It’s still in the 80’s late at night! Here’s hoping you receive rain soon and have a wonderful week.

  3. Haha, that is too funny. Speaking of garnishing, our cilantro self seeded and when they were young, they were a yummy flavor enhancer. Now they are all lanky and not good except to make more coriander seeds. Stay as cool as you can in this heat. We are going to soar into the upper 90’s this week. right now our forecast calls for 92F. Still too hot for us, and heat advisories and warnings have already been issued. Maybe by Saturday it will have cooled down a few degrees. No rain either, to cool the parched earth…I have to go out each evening when it is a wee bit cooler to water everything, esp the seedling trees I have.
I pity anyone who has to do ther work outside, including my son’s girlfriend who works for a greenhouse company…she says outside is way better than in a greenhouse. Whatever!

    1. Coriander can be a challenging herb with its self-seeding. I find others like that and nobody like bitter old herbs. Nobody!

I’m not sure what’s worse, temperature warnings or the countless air quality alerts. Sadly we have both. 🙁 Try to stay cool. There are a dozen townhomes being built nearby, I really feel badly for the guys working on them. They’ve got to be roasting like crazy up there! Hope you guys can stay reasonably cool and try to have a good week.

    1. Smart and oh-so tasty…we can get on board with Basil. Have a furbulous week, Ann and June.

    1. We’re doing our level best. We were out at the crack of dawn this morning and have only gone out for very brief and very quick potty breaks. We hope the same for you guys. Have a good week.

  4. We are in a WAVE too……no rain and hot hot hot. Ick. Staying inside and hoping for no power outages! Good luck to all of us in this mess!!

    Hugs, Pam and Teddy

    1. Ugh…it’s like Mother Nature put a bullseye on most of the country. Try to stay cool and enjoy a few extra naps, Teddy. Have a lovely week despite the temps.

  5. We just have to live with the weather we are given and be thankful for A/C in the summer and heat in the winter. Good sign with the parsley. Have a good week!

    1. Thank you. Yeah, the whole hot temps have become a broken record that we’re stuck in but we have to accept them and move while staying hydrated. Glad you enjoyed today’s smile. Have a wonderful week.

    1. Thanks, yes Vince does puns ever so well. And it’s a good thing we can chuckle at them with these heat waves. Have a good week and stay as cool as you can.

  6. We had cooler weather yesterday. I don’t think the air conditioner came on. The weather will be heating up this week though.

Love the sign. I laughed out loud.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

    1. Glad you enjoyed today’s smile. We’re gonna need to laugh with this week’s forecast-it’s gonna be a hot one. Thanks for adding us to your Awww Monday’s hop. You’re always so kind and we so appreciate it! Happy Monday from Wilson and me.

    1. It sure is…I heard about the latest one in Europe. You have my sympathies. Have a good Monday despite the pizzas oven temps.

    1. Yes, I think they do manage to find a way! 😂 Here’s to a great Monday.

    1. Parsley is one of those very underrated herbs that provides exceptional support for bone strength, immune function, and vision. I also found out it’s also a natural diuretic that reduces bloating and acts as a breath freshener for both peeps and dogs. I’ve used it on my dogs for ages.

      Happy Monday.

    1. Thank you for swinging by…we 💙 visitors. Happy Monday right back atcha!!

  7. We’ve had the triplets visit a few times this year. It’s rare but not this year. The 90’s will be visiting this week and I don’t mean the music and hairdo’s!

    1. I’d prefer the music and hair frankly but Mother Nature didn’t ask me. Hope it’s a good Monday for you and the kitties.

  8. Triple digits? Yikes! Too hot even for this warm weather lover. Stay hydrated whilst you ponder the hypothetical parsley lawsuit brought forward by the Colorado department of Agriculture. Sounds like that farmer may need the services of Pickering & Harvest, attorneys at lunch. 🤓

    Have a cool week!

    1. You’re too funny, Mike. Pickering and Harvest. Ha! We’ve closed up the house now and will only do quick exits for potty breaks after our dawn walk. It was not exactly cool then either but far better than what is to come. Happy Monday. P.S. Noticed your Giants managed to beat up on the Rocks multiple times over the weekend. My heavens, the Rocks are such a horrible team. 🤦🏼‍♀️

        1. You really have to (a) really love baseball or (b) be a special kind of masochist to be a Rockies fan. 😬

  9. Monika, do keep that countdown clock running towards Autumn. Can’t wait. We can’t rival your triple digits this time around as we’re only supposed to “top out” at 98 on Wednesday. That being said, the humidity will be a “reasonable” 60% so we’ll live with it considering it is mid-July. I love that parsley sign. It’s always fun to see people getting creative with their signage. Think cool thoughts this week!

    1. Thanks, Bruce. The countdown can’t come quick enough. 60% humidity is good?? Yikes, When it gets up to 20% I feel like I’ve been laid low. Talk about a relative perspective.

Vince is well known around the metro area and Internet for his signs displayed at the Indian Hills Community Center. When my daughter lived there I always made a point of stopping to funny appreciate it when driving up the hill. He’s a fun guy. Have a good week!

  10. You have my sympathy for the continued heatwave. Our heat wave has broken and thunderstorms have arrived. I just hope we get enough rain for everything to survive while we are gone.

    1. We’ll keep our fingers crossed that rain will bless the Homestead in your absence. I know it’s summer and all but for the love of all that’s holy, it seems far more intense than usual. Have a great week.

      1. Thank you! The weather prediction is for thunderstorms one week. I don’t know what the second week will look like.

It does seem so much hotter this year! 🔥🥵

A neighbor is coming over to pick tomatoes, so we won’t come home to a rotten mess.

        Have a great week.

        1. It’s always helpful when a neighbor can at least pick veggies while you’re gone. No point in letting all that fabulous produce go to waste.

      2. Grrr! I must’ve pushed the wrong button. My reply got lost. 😞
It does seem hotter this year ☀️🥵. I remember it being hot as blazes when I was a kid. I didn’t care and ran around outside playing. We had no AC then.

Thunderstorms are predicted all this week. I really hope we just get rain and don’t lose any more trees.

        Have a great week.

        1. No worries. I hope you have a good week as well. When do you guys leave?

        1. Well doggone it. On my end, I’m seeing comments. WP may just be slow. Hopefully it will start behaving. Sorry for the cluster.

            1. Interesting. I never know what takes WP’s fancy. Hopefully it was just a one off thing. 🤞🏻

    1. Glad you liked it. He always manages to come up with some hilarious puns. Have a wonderful Monday!

    1. Oooh, so jealous. Hopefully our forecasts for these next few days is hyperbolic. Enjoy a blissful Monday, Helen.
