Nature Friday ~ December 16, 2022

With just nine sleeps until Santa Paws arrives, we’ve been busy trying to get ready for the big day but not so busy we couldn’t find at least a couple of pics for this week’s edition of Nature Friday. As always, we thank those furry pals over at LLB Gang for hosting the blog hop.

Winter officially arrives next week but it seems to have already arrived here in the 303. Not in the form of any white stuff, mind you. This week’s forecasted Snowmageddon completely fizzled with only six tiny flakes falling. Temperatures however did fall and the dogs’ daily walks have been limited to quick trips in the dog run in order to preserve achy joints. Luckily those trips coincided with some winter beauty.

Red sky

The old saw says ‘red skies in morning, sailor take warning’ so this early morning scene left me hopeful that we’d receive some white stuff later in the day, but it was not to be.

Red skies

Apparently that other part of that old saw, “red skies at night, sailor’s delight” prevailed. Not sure if sailor’s would want to be  sailing in the low temps, but it certainly seemed to apply on the prediction of a storm. Cloudy, cold and windy are the watch words controlling weather conditions for the foreseeable future.

Cold temps mean both dogs are getting cabin fever. With Christmas preparations in high gear and little opportunity for the releasing of any pent up energy physically, that means boredom. I’ve had to rescue more than a few items from the jaws of death. Hopefully Christmas preparations will be wrapped up this weekend so I can concentrate on stemming any excess energy mischief this next week. Fingers crossed.

Well that’s it for us. Sorry for the lack of images this week. Hopefully we’ll do better next time when things calm down.

So what plans do you have this last full weekend before the big day? Whatever you do, I hope you’ll have the opportunity to see some slices of nature in between. Have a ‘wagnificent’ weekend.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

  1. It may be a lack of images, Norman and Elsa, but they have so much in it to see, that it is more than enough. They are really amazing! Hope you had a wonderful weekend, Monika. Warm Double Pawkisses from us to all of you🐾😽💞

    1. Many thanks for the kind words. Nature provides us with so much that’s amazing…we just have to take the time to check it out. 💙

  2. I’m back to cabin fever…in the form of Heavy rain and high winds…yep that weather is back after having a little break with the cold stuff. Mummy said we should get used to it this weather will be for the foreseeable….sigh. xoxo Little Miss Titch

    1. There’s something about winter skies-talk about unbelievable!

It’s looking like a l-o-n-g winter for the Ranch Hands. Sigh.

  3. WordPress appears to have chucked me off, so I’ve resubscribed by e mail…..though for some reason the WP logo form has worked!
    Magic photographs…..those colours!
Good luck with stir crazy hounds…we get that in the rainiest of the rainy season when delicate paws must not touch wet ground. Now the summer has set in they are basking contentedly in the shade.

    1. So nice to hear from you and very sorry you too are experiencing issues with WP working. Like you, I’ve had my fair share of cluster dealing with a new OS version. No platforms seem willing to play nicely with the others. Hope you, Leo and the Thugs are well and enjoying the spirit of the season. 🎄☮️

    1. You’re so right. Guess I better bring out that enrichment book to help get us through it. Stay warm and cozy.

  4. The hubby saw your red in the morning sky and commented that you do a GREAT job with photography. I agree. It’s been too busy around here, also, and now we’re getting ready to leave early tomorrow morning for Jeff’s relatives in Fort Wayne. Everyone but Riley is going, and the dogs have their own suitcase full of warm clothes and jammies!

    1. Aww, thanks for that sweet comment. It was all Nature (and the iPhone). I have to do some creative cropping since my alleyway from where I can see those amazing sunrises looks like Tokyo with all the cable, phone and power lines. Have a safe trip and give Riley an extra ear scritch from me for staying behind.

  5. Your two pictures are wonderful. We got a dumping (actually, it’s still falling). it’s that heavy, heart-attack kind that looks oh-so pretty on the trees. I’ve done absolutely zilch in preparation for Christmas. Well… I did buy a blue poinsettia. If my railing gets put up next week, I won’t have to worry about anyone breaking their neck when they come for Christmas breakfast which I needs must start shopping for, eh?

    1. Thank you for your kind comment. These days I’m just not feel very bloggy and felt badly the offering was so short on pics. The fact that I constantly have to do battle with an onerous OS which makes me want to pull my hair out doesn’t add to a lack of interest to create any content. Sigh

A blue Poinsettia?? I’ve never heard of one! Bet the fresh snow makes everything look quite beautiful. I’ll keep my fingers crossed your railing gets finished in time for a scrumptious Christmas breakfast. Have a wonderful weekend.

      1. I feel you – and I didn’t just have COVID. My bloggyness has been rather sporadic at best.

Oh, I will share it on IG 🙂 I only got it because I have one blue wall in my house and thought, what the hell! The railing is getting done this coming week, for shizzle. Then, all that’s left is just little doohickeys. Yaya!

Have a fabulous weekend, you too.

    1. Thanks, Bruce. Yes, pretty much back to 100%, now if I could just turn back the clock to be able to do all the things I feel need to be done for the holiday. 😉 Wishing you one, swell weekend! 🎄

    1. I’ve said the exact same thing for years. Always wanted a job where I could be so off and still be paid a large contract. So much for super duper radar Doppler being the end all, eh? 🤪 Have a great weekend.

    1. Hope the return trip wasn’t too crazy weather wise. Have a productive and fun weekend.

  6. Super photos, Monika. This weekend is pretty laid back. Need to go out tonight and take some home decoration photos for the post on Sunday. Beyond that we are getting temps in the fifties which means less outdoor activity. Faced with forecasted teens on Christmas.

    1. I know that’s on the crisp side but we’d kill for 50’s. Stay warm and have a great photo shoot.

  7. Great sky photos, incredible colors. We have that same saying of the sky. It about like this: Red sky in the morning means rain, red on the evening sky means beutiful, bright tomorrow. Aamutaivas punertaa, sadetta se ennustaa, iltataivas punainen, kaunis, kirkas huominen.

    1. Thank you. Winter skies are truly gorgeous-I wonder if those skies are impacted by cold temps?

  8. Love sky shots – and these are gorgeous. Teddy had a tough day yesterday – it was a non-stop rain/can’t go out in the yard day and he HATES that. He just sat on the front porch longingly staring at the yard. I think he’ll perk up when Santa arrives and his stocking is full of treats!

    Hugs, Pam (and Teddy)

    1. You’re too kind. Thanks. Nature can be something amazing. Hope your weekend is full of all sorts of wonderful.

  9. What beautiful sky shots. We’re cold here and winter showed up several days ago.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to the pups, a smooch to Norman and a big hug to you. ♥
