Monday Musings ~ July 22, 2024

Good Monday morning. Before we get to today’s musing, Wilson wanted me to thank everyone who left such wonderful birthday wishes for him. The House Pony had a fabulous celebration and the party was a raging success. We received a surprise during in the middle of it. Can you guess what it is from today’s smile?

No, okay then…here’s the skinny. This past weekend while Elsa and I were celebrating Wilson’s birthday, my daughter texted me a photo. To say I was shocked is a bit of an understatement. I had no idea. And while they’re small now, they will grow into that giant breed known as Irish Wolfhounds, the tallest of all breeds. Right now they’re tiny little beans (ranging from 1.96 to 2.84 pounds-55.6-80.7 kg), but will grow up into gentle giants. Let me introduce 9 (yes, you read that right…n-i-n-e  puppies and no that’s not a typo) squeaking, little Irish Wolfhound puppies. I know, it’s hard to fathom these little guys start out so small yet grow up to become so huge. Everyone is doing well including the parents who live with my daughter and her family. Life is going to get pretty interesting until the pups are weaned and move on to their new forever homes. And to think I call Wilson a house pony. Irish Wolfhounds definitely gallop.

Now that’s a dog pile!

Here’s wishing you a ‘wagnificent’ Monday.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

    1. Thanks from both me and Wils. Those puppies are just too adorable. Every day with this ‘land hippo’ is a celebration! 🎉

  1. Of course I’m more than a day late and a dollar short… Amazing such small beasties grow into huge ones!
I forgot to mention that I love your new painting/header.

    1. Aww, thanks. No worries-you’ve been on vacation enjoying your guest. Figured I’d switch the header up periodically. It’s good practice. 😉

      1. I know you know. I was mostly referring to the story of the 9 babies!
But yes, I do note when you change it up. It’s particularly pretty now 🙂

        1. You’re too kind. Thank you. I first announced the arrival of the 9 pupsters last week so you’re not too far behind. Their arrival came as a big surprise since I wasn’t aware of the pregnancy. Last I had heard the mama was scheduled for a spay. Oops. #bestlaidplans

  2. Congratulations! 9 puppies! It’s hard to imagine those cute little things growing up to be such enormous creatures.

    1. Hi BellaDharma and BellaSita…aren’t those little guys adorable? And yes, they will get to be big pooches soon enough! I can’t even begin to imagine them running around the house. My daughter is in for some ‘interesting’ times. 😁

  3. Mom loves Irish Wolf Hounds but they have such a short life being a giant breed. She considered getting one years ago, but decided she wanted a dog who would most likely have many more years. Enjoy the puppy time, it is the best.

    1. Actually the breeder from where my daughter got hers from breeds dogs for longevity. Her two previous ones lived to 12 & 13 years old. Not too shabby for a giant breed. Love watching them run-they are so elegant.

    1. Many thanks. He had a lovely birthday weekend and even responded to the puppies’ squeaks and suckling sounds on the computer. He really is aware of puppy noises.

  4. Awe, Awe, And did we say AWE??? Congrats to you, the new doggy grandma!!
Maybe those pups would love to romp with you guys, Elsa and Wilson…well, when they are a bit bigger…

One of my cousins had a Rottie/mastiff mix and that lady-dog had 12 pups!! OMD! They found homes for all of them.

    1. Oh gosh, can you even begin to fathom caring for that many?

Seems like this year has been a year of babies…two and four legged!

  5. Wolfhounds are beautiful dogs. I’ve seen Irish Wolfhounds and they are like you say the tallest. However, they are also fairly slim. A Leonberger or a St. Bernard is only a couple of inches shorter but bulkier.

  6. Thank you for joining the Awww Mondays Blog Hop.

Have a fabulous Awww Monday and week. Scritches to the pups and a hug to you. ♥

  7. The pups look adorable Monika and we’ve met many fun and amazing wolfhounds on our walks here in the Highlands. Here’s wishing them all the happiest of forever homes! 🍀🐾❤🐾🍀

    1. They are truly amazing dogs, even if they are larger than life! Happy Monday, Xenia.

    1. They’re a pretty amazing breed but extremely large. Such gentle giants though.

    1. Thanks, Dan. I look forward to sharing. The progress report is they’re gaining weight and becoming more mobile every day.

        1. Owning an IW is not for the faint of heart (or bank account)! They’re not for everyone.

  8. How much fun those puppies must be! And you’re in a perfect position to visit and play with them — and then go home. Someone else will deal with teething and potty training! What a wonderful opportunity!

    1. Yes, so much better to visit and go home to peace and quiet. I can barely keep up with my two, let alone 9 puppies!! 🤣

  9. PUPPIES! I don’t think I’ve ever seen an Irish Wolfhound in person, but if they are anything like Great Danes, they must be very impressive and elegant!

    1. As puppies they don’t look much like the regal beasts they grow up to be. I’m looking forward to seeing photos of them as they start looking more like IWs.

    1. Thank you-am glad it’s them and not me-I can barely keep up with the 2 I have and one is a senior! The males will probably weigh anywhere from 35 – 55 lbs while the females will be more around 25 – 45 lbs. at 3 months. Seems like a whole lotta dog!

      1. Wow that is a whole lotta dog. It is finitely interesting that the specious dog can have such a wide variety of not only physical characteristics but of size too. And for the most part they speak the same language and commingle peacefully with one another regardless of these sometimes Huge variations. If only we humans…, sigh.

        1. Boy, isn’t THAT the truth! We’d all be better if we acted more like our pets.

    1. Thank you, Terry. I can’t be more pleased they’re all healthy and look forward to watching them grow. Happy Monday.

  10. Love the cartoon. It’s so very true.

Awww on the puppies. I love puppy breath. Adorable.

I linked this post to Awww Monday’s as always.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups and a hug to you. ♥

    1. Thanks Sandee. Puppy breath is the absolute best! Wishing you a Monday full of joy and fun. Hugs and tails wags.

  11. oooh congrats to your daughter and all the best and welcome to our world dear puppies… its the enemy breed of phoenix, we always had to run around at dog shows to find Pasha the wolfhound, so he could yell at him and as soon as he barked back my hero pup ran away like chased by hellcats …

    1. Many thanks, Katty. For big dogs, they are mostly ‘pussy cats.’ All bark and no bite. The gentle giants used to greet me every time I went to visit with such enthusiasm. Sam would go crazy trying to keep up with them-it was hilarious to watch him try.

  12. You got that right. Maybe even a little sooner…I suspect my daughter won’t be getting much sleep for several weeks. 😉

    1. To say the least! Being around two adult IWs was always a hoot-they truly do gallop!

  13. Such gorgeous pups…and well worth all the work they entail.
I hope we shall be seeing more pics as they grow up!

    1. Aren’t they handsome? They’ve owned brindles and wheatons but never had black ones. They are leaning toward keeping one of the black pups.

  14. That will definitely be one ton of working cleaning poop, feeding, socializing as they are weaned. I will leave such things to those who are a couple or more decades younger than me! But they’re adorable.

    1. That was my reaction. Better them than me. But gosh, could they be any cuter? Puppies just make things better. I can’t wait until they start walking (galloping) around. 😆

      1. Puppies do make things better, as long as they’re healthy. And when they are about 8 weeks old, they will be so glad to see them going off to forever homes.
