So charming not to mention practical! There truly is something to be said for the permanence of European structures.
Here in the states, architecture has become microwaveable. Hell, the Coliseum is almost two thousand years old. And while I am well aware it is not suited for a football game in its current state, it’s also STILL standing. Whereas they tore down a ballpark in Atlanta less than two decades after it was built!
Agreed. Our culture has a very short view on permanence. The rule seems to be make it temporary. Plus we seem hell bent on building stuff with taxpayer money for the benefit of rich team owners. That’s some kind of weird cultural legacy, isn’t it? 😬
It’s a sad one, bereft of any substance.
I have always been of the opinion that if my team wants to build a stadium and holds their city hostage to get it done . . then I am plenty fine with them leaving.
Me too. In fact, my first reaction is ‘don’t let the door of sell-outs hit you in the tush on the way out.’ Sadly this football obsessed town fell all over itself saying sure; how much do you need-oh wait, that doesn’t seem enough, you sure you don’t want loads more? 👿
All the while feeding into the “it’s great for the community” trapdoor. No . . it’s great for the team owner. That’s who it’s great for.
Yeah, I’m so sick of that line (which is the go-to by our own ‘esteemed’ mayor). To my way of thinking, it’s like a fingernail down a chalkboard mantra by cities and owners.
And it’s so not true.
I mean, there is nothing wrong with having a team whose colors dress up a time each fall. It’s nice in fact. But there is no way in hell the taxpayers should have to fit the bill. Not when the league is worth countless billions.
I get cheesed off just thinking about the hostage taking they pull every 3-4 years. Mismanagement a few years ago by the recently deceased owner (and revered like some kind of god, Pat Bowlen) of the Broncos luxury boxes really turned me off to this sinister cabal. We have to pick up the tab for your ineptitude and poor business choices? You’re kidding, right?
But doesn’t Roger Goodell consider PSL’s to be a “good investment” by the fans? That genius idea priced generational fans out of the market.
You should be taking the shower after the walk, not before 🙂

At my house in Spain, up in the hills….I have to sell it as Leo is too ill to travel now, but I shall miss it more than I can say.The sheep passing in the early morning, the bells on the leader’s collar chiming sweetly…the eagles on the thermals overhead…the sheer peace of it.

I would like to be sitting on the beach of the ocean–any ocean. There is something timeless about the ebb and flow of the ocean that renews my soul.
The calming noise of the surf is a worthy place to be. Looking out toward the horizon, watching, just watching and breathing slowly. #Paradise
I’d be in Tuscany, like John, sitting on a terrace, glass of Aperol Spritz in hand watching the passersby.
