Nature Friday ~ January 15, 2021

Since every day of the week in the age of COVID are referred to as “Blursday,” I had to check the calendar to make sure that today is in fact Friday. Welcome back old friend! As we typically do today we join our friends, Rosy, Sunny, Arty and Jakey from LLB in Our Backyard for another Nature Friday blog hop. Don’t forget to swing by their backyard and check out all the great nature scenes.

Well it may be the middle of January already, but around the Mile High that just means we’re steadfastly stuck in a season of brown drab despite a small storm that dumped some white stuff at the beginning of the week. That just means we are bit shy on anything particularly scenic to share…unless you’re really into dried leaves and grasses.

It’s been a busy week but I kept my eyes open whenever I was out to see if anything worth sharing would catch my eye. While running a couple of errands around the neighborhood, I drove by this little shopfront. This little skin care shop is very close to the intersection and because Murphy’s Law insists that I must stop for the streetlight every time I pass by here. It would seem as if the owners are kind of trying to create some of their own kind brand of spring to offset the dusty drab that has a chokehold on the local landscape. The color caught my eye from nearly a block away but I couldn’t figure out exactly what it was until I got closer to the intersection. That welcome pop of color on the ‘wisteria chains’ give the scene a bit of tongue in check whimsiness.

Nature Friday

It may not be the real deal but considering the alternative, I’ll take it. It just goes to show if you keep your eyes open, you’ll find something that’s either lovely, makes you smile or both.

Wishing there’s plenty of nature for you to take in this weekend. Got any special plans?

Live, love,  bark! 🐾

  1. More color and more sunshine, I’m in dire need of both!! We do at least still have some snow on the ground here which brightens things up a bit anyway; but today it’s raining and tomorrow we’ll just have an icy mess!! It will be nice when the black clouds we are under – literally and figuratively – just go away!!

    1. We’d probably welcome some rain but hopefully there’ll be some fresh snow soon here. Our wettest month’s are March and April (January and February are the driest). 🤞🏻🤞🏻for both of us. Have a great weekend.

  2. Lulu: “We’re having Santa Anas here right now, so our nature consists of hot weather and lots of stuff blowing around. It’s awesome!”
Charlee: “Well, as long as nothing catches fire.”

  3. I would looooves some white stuffs here! we are gonna have a bit of a ‘heat wave’ this weekend and some next week. Good for the soul, not for the drought! BOL! Those wisteria blooms are a FABulous fake! kudos to the store owner for spreading some cheer

  5. You’re in for some warm weather when this high pressure moves from us to you. It’s 86 today and that’s just nutz even in Socal. Yes, the infamous cargo shorts made a surprise reappearance. I like wisteria a lot. I was surprised to learn it is a member of the pea family. Some years back the Alpha Japanese Female and I visited Kawachi Fuji Garden in the city of Kitakyushu, Japan where they have more than 150 Wisteria flowering plants of different species. Good town for ramen. too.

    1. It was in the low 60’s here on Wednesday but a tad cooler today but nice and sunny. I’m hoping the forecast of white stuff holds up over the next few days. We can use it to tamp down the dust and give the brown landscape a bit of variation in hue. Wisteria is so beautiful; wish it did better here. The best one around is at the Denver Botanic Gardens where it has a round the clock batch of master gardeners and volunteers to dote on it (I’d probably look good too with that kind of help). I can only fantasize about the Kitakyushu gardens. Color me jealous.

        1. Incredible!! I can’t believe there were 58 👎🏼 What is wrong with those people?

            1. Perhaps. Still the visual sight should warrant an enthusiastic audience. Not a handful of fussy overly entitled millennials.

  6. The fake wisteria chain are a great idea. Good for that shop owner! I really do have to throw out the depressing little aloe plant that I killed by leaving it outside.

  7. Lovely pop of color. We’re having a little heat wave off of the desert this weekend and I will be taking a long walk on the beach tomorrow. 🙂 We’re supposed to get some much needed rain next weekend and I am hoping it happens so I have an excuse to cocoon.

    1. Enjoy that beach this weekend and feel free to forward any wet stuff our way. Have a great weekend.

  8. All we have to do is look around and we can find many things that will make us smile. Love this.

Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to the pups. ♥

    1. Too often we’re in a hurry and forget to stop and see what’s going on around us. While I sometimes grouse about traffic lights, I was glad this day. Happy weekend!

  9. So pretty! Glad your eyes were open so that you could see it. Thanks for sharing! I keep thinking today is Saturday! No special plans but thats Ok, will just relax, for its my weekend ofd work. Yay! Happy weekend to you!

    1. It’s funny how all too often you can miss sights like that, instead just trying your level best to get to part A. I’m trying to stop and smell the roses, er wisterias more these days. 😉

    1. Blursday seems like the best way to describe the calendar anymore. Unless I check, I’m never sure what day of the week it is but I know everyday is Blursday during the p;anDAMNic. I’d trade the dusty and brown for black and white any day. Hope you guys have a good weekend near the fireplace.

  10. I got Def Leppard going through my head now after checking out all that wisteria.

As for the drabness of January, it’s very much that way here. The temps have been mild and the color hard to come by. And the general feeling of ‘meh’, it’s everywhere.

But it’ Friday and the weekend is calling. So . . there’s that.

    Happy TGIF!

    1. Def Leppard! Ha. Yes, let’s hear it for the clarion call of the weekend. Hope yours is grand.

  11. We usually don’t have much – if any – snow here, but this year we’ve already had 4 days with just a little white fluff on the ground.
Enjoy your weekend, and stay healthy,
    Pit
