Since every day of the week in the age of COVID are referred to as “Blursday,” I had to check the calendar to make sure that today is in fact Friday. Welcome back old friend! As we typically do today we join our friends, Rosy, Sunny, Arty and Jakey from LLB in Our Backyard for another Nature Friday blog hop. Don’t forget to swing by their backyard and check out all the great nature scenes.
Well it may be the middle of January already, but around the Mile High that just means we’re steadfastly stuck in a season of brown drab despite a small storm that dumped some white stuff at the beginning of the week. That just means we are bit shy on anything particularly scenic to share…unless you’re really into dried leaves and grasses.
It’s been a busy week but I kept my eyes open whenever I was out to see if anything worth sharing would catch my eye. While running a couple of errands around the neighborhood, I drove by this little shopfront. This little skin care shop is very close to the intersection and because Murphy’s Law insists that I must stop for the streetlight every time I pass by here. It would seem as if the owners are kind of trying to create some of their own kind brand of spring to offset the dusty drab that has a chokehold on the local landscape. The color caught my eye from nearly a block away but I couldn’t figure out exactly what it was until I got closer to the intersection. That welcome pop of color on the ‘wisteria chains’ give the scene a bit of tongue in check whimsiness.
It may not be the real deal but considering the alternative, I’ll take it. It just goes to show if you keep your eyes open, you’ll find something that’s either lovely, makes you smile or both.
Wishing there’s plenty of nature for you to take in this weekend. Got any special plans?
Live, love, bark! 🐾
I love the wisteria, they look lovely! Definitely adds a bit of brightness to a dull winter’s day.
It sure does! I try to drive past that intersection whenever possible.
That is so colorful! And it’s in my favorite colors. It should help people to smile!
Especially when they’re stopped for the traffic light! 🚦
What a lovely find.
Perhaps it’s a sign for hope that spring will be coming soon.
More color and more sunshine, I’m in dire need of both!! We do at least still have some snow on the ground here which brightens things up a bit anyway; but today it’s raining and tomorrow we’ll just have an icy mess!! It will be nice when the black clouds we are under – literally and figuratively – just go away!!
We’d probably welcome some rain but hopefully there’ll be some fresh snow soon here. Our wettest month’s are March and April (January and February are the driest). 🤞🏻🤞🏻for both of us. Have a great weekend.
Lulu: “We’re having Santa Anas here right now, so our nature consists of hot weather and lots of stuff blowing around. It’s awesome!”
Charlee: “Well, as long as nothing catches fire.”
The wind makes people (and mother nature) crazy.
I would looooves some white stuffs here! we are gonna have a bit of a ‘heat wave’ this weekend and some next week. Good for the soul, not for the drought! BOL! Those wisteria blooms are a FABulous fake! kudos to the store owner for spreading some cheer
Stay safe, and keep healthy my furiends!
Kisses,
Ruby ♥
Floral cheer in January is ALWAYS welcome in our brown season. Happy weekend Ruby!
Let’s hope we both receive some moisture soon. 🤞🏼
Love the splash of colour.

We love that people are making their own color if they can’t find any!!
Seemed very clever to me.
You’re in for some warm weather when this high pressure moves from us to you. It’s 86 today and that’s just nutz even in Socal. Yes, the infamous cargo shorts made a surprise reappearance. I like wisteria a lot. I was surprised to learn it is a member of the pea family. Some years back the Alpha Japanese Female and I visited Kawachi Fuji Garden in the city of Kitakyushu, Japan where they have more than 150 Wisteria flowering plants of different species. Good town for ramen. too.
It was in the low 60’s here on Wednesday but a tad cooler today but nice and sunny. I’m hoping the forecast of white stuff holds up over the next few days. We can use it to tamp down the dust and give the brown landscape a bit of variation in hue. Wisteria is so beautiful; wish it did better here. The best one around is at the Denver Botanic Gardens where it has a round the clock batch of master gardeners and volunteers to dote on it (I’d probably look good too with that kind of help). I can only fantasize about the Kitakyushu gardens. Color me jealous.
If you’d like to rest your eyes, go here:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H9Mc71TMDKo and spend a minute or so in Kawachi Gardens. It was (and is) otherworldly.
Incredible!! I can’t believe there were 58 👎🏼 What is wrong with those people?
The music may have been a bit overdone. But it’s on social media where there always have to be some folks who gripe.
Perhaps. Still the visual sight should warrant an enthusiastic audience. Not a handful of fussy overly entitled millennials.
Welcome to Facebook, sweet summer child. First time here?
LOL…yeah, guess I’m asking for a lot.
Next you’ll want civility in politics. Sheesh.
I know, it’s a big reach b
The fake wisteria chain are a great idea. Good for that shop owner! I really do have to throw out the depressing little aloe plant that I killed by leaving it outside.
Oops…Yeah aloe isn’t a happy camper in cold temps.
Lovely pop of color. We’re having a little heat wave off of the desert this weekend and I will be taking a long walk on the beach tomorrow. 🙂 We’re supposed to get some much needed rain next weekend and I am hoping it happens so I have an excuse to cocoon.
Enjoy that beach this weekend and feel free to forward any wet stuff our way. Have a great weekend.
All we have to do is look around and we can find many things that will make us smile. Love this.
Have a fabulous day and weekend. Scritches to the pups. ♥
Too often we’re in a hurry and forget to stop and see what’s going on around us. While I sometimes grouse about traffic lights, I was glad this day. Happy weekend!
So pretty! Glad your eyes were open so that you could see it. Thanks for sharing! I keep thinking today is Saturday! No special plans but thats Ok, will just relax, for its my weekend ofd work. Yay! Happy weekend to you!
It’s funny how all too often you can miss sights like that, instead just trying your level best to get to part A. I’m trying to stop and smell the roses, er wisterias more these days. 😉
So true and I think we all have been more intent on doing that now, we need in these times!
That “Blursday” is great, I have the same problem, must check what day is today. All is black and white here, we got lots of snow. Have a sunny weekend and stay safe.
Blursday seems like the best way to describe the calendar anymore. Unless I check, I’m never sure what day of the week it is but I know everyday is Blursday during the p;anDAMNic. I’d trade the dusty and brown for black and white any day. Hope you guys have a good weekend near the fireplace.
I got Def Leppard going through my head now after checking out all that wisteria.
As for the drabness of January, it’s very much that way here. The temps have been mild and the color hard to come by. And the general feeling of ‘meh’, it’s everywhere.
But it’ Friday and the weekend is calling. So . . there’s that.
Happy TGIF!
Def Leppard! Ha. Yes, let’s hear it for the clarion call of the weekend. Hope yours is grand.
You too Monika.
Rock on!
Special plans for this weekend? My peeps are planning a trip to the kitchen around dinner time.
Let’s hope there are a few sunflower seeds being served.
Someone making an effort is always welcome.
Especially during the month of January, otherwise known as ‘meh.’ 🌺
I like it! It inspires me to do something a little special to spruce up the ol’ neighborhood…
Seemed like a pretty clever way to hurry spring up. Happy weekend.
We usually don’t have much – if any – snow here, but this year we’ve already had 4 days with just a little white fluff on the ground.
Enjoy your weekend, and stay healthy,
Pit
Thank you-we’re hoping your’s is a great one.
