Nature Friday ~ August 26, 2022

ElsaWelcome to the last Friday in August. As always, we’re joining our pals over at Adventures of the LLB Gang for their weekly blog post. Make sure you check out the link for other posts.

Let me just say, it was one of those weeks. Elsa here, your award-winning, internationally renowned correspondent, coming to you from the scene of a major crime. Mom was ‘extra busy this week’ (Norman went to visit peeps at the hospital so there was that)…anywho…there I was minding my own business and sort of laughing that he got groomed and was patiently waiting for them to leave. All of a sudden, I was held at leash point gunpoint and robbed! Can you believe it?!?! Right under my nose, in my own home. I tried calling 911 to report this felony but Mom grabbed the phone away. The nerve! The thief (aka Mom) apparently thought it would be a good idea to get another dog, like what am I, chopped liver? I know, she has a sick sense of humor but don’t laugh to humor her, okay? Hmpf…another dog indeed. Can you imagine what that ‘dog‘ might look like if I was really in need of a haircut? Egad, I’d probably end up with another monster of a brother since Mom says I have a ‘robust’ coat…or what I like to call, being simply fabulous.

Any way, our outings to find cool slices of nature were somewhat limited. Mom simply had her head in the clouds this week. Literally. She says it’s because we’re beginning the transition to more autumnal flowers and not as much has been blooming. Coupled with warm temps, I guess most flowers feel like us and just want the summer to end. With 27 days left until the official arrival of our favorite season, I totally understand if they need a break.

Here was the sky as we strolled out for this morning’s daily constitution. Sorry about the Tokyo-type power lines criss-crossing the alley. When you live in an old neighborhood, unfortunately you’re always gonna have those ugly power lines that will show up ruining otherwise nice pics. It doesn’t bother me though…I like waiting underneath them just in case any squirrels lose their footing and fall into my waiting mouth down. It happened once before but Mom kept me from catching the failed member of Flying Wallenda family little fella. He shook his head and staggered off. Mom was laughing hard; but I simply wanted to ‘go check on him’ to make sure he was tender okay.

Sunrise

We’ve been fairly lucky temperature wise this week, with temps mostly in the 80’s. Warm days with clouds rolling in late in the afternoons. Yesterday it was 90ºF and Mom thought any rain would probably evaporate before it hit the ground; we had maybe 12 drops of rain but the weatherman reported some decent showers in the mountains which is fine by me. Those clouds probably ran out of moisture by the time they reached the metro area. That’s my theory anyway.

Clouds

When Mom went visiting her dad recently, he too had lots of cloudy afternoons and surprisingly far more rain than we received in the city. Notice those rainy streaks off in the distance near Pikes Peak?  Mom said it has something to do with moisture coming up from the Gulf. We’ve been thinking of all those folks in eastern Texas, Louisiana, Mississippi and Alabama. Have you seen the flooding going down there? Yikes! What going on with the crazy weather these days remains a big question.

Clouds

Well that’s pretty much all I’ve got this week. I’m keeping my fingers crossed we’ll get to go somewhere to see something other than stupid clouds or charred flowers. Got any suggestions? Whatever you do, we hope you are able to enjoy some of Nature’s prettier sights. Have a great weekend and guard those furs…you never know when an otherwise innocent looking Mom sneaks up on you with scissors and clippers behind her back.

  1. Hey, there could be ten copies but the original will always be my No 1 Ninja. The Great Manathon Walker – Benji, and me like to keep up to date with the adventures of the Award Winning International Correspondent and the achievements of the Highly Experienced Hospital Visitor and Patient Calmer. And – just to let you know that in spite of the weather Benji ( with my humble assistance) walked 48 miles last week.

    1. Aww, you’re too kind about your Ninja praise. My goodness…you guys are astounding with all that mileage! Bravo. To move around is good for one’s health, both physically and just as importantly, mentally. 😍

  2. Java Bean: “Those are some impressive skies you have there. Almost as impressive as your furs, wow!”
Lulu: “A shame you didn’t get to go and minister to that squirrel while he was stunned and couldn’t run away. I mean, when he was in need of kind eating. I mean assistance.”
Charlee: “You aren’t fooling anyone, you know.”

    1. Elsa’s with you, Lulu. Nasty tree rats. Thanks, Java Bean, I’m not sure when they said girls like furs that is what they meant but it is, what it is, right?

  3. That furry dog-rug? Made me rofl! How creative! The clouds were stupendous. As for wanting summer to leave? NOOOO. I can’t afford heating oil this year!!!

    1. I know what you mean about winter energy costs, but summer hasn’t exactly been cheap with these pizza oven hot days. I think I might try more dog-rug art with each grooming job. Should be interesting. As I was trimming and tossing on the patio, it started looking a lot like Elsa. I only had a few tucks here and there to make a full sized dog. Oh and floofing the topknot and tail. 🤣

  4. Hi Monika and Elsa,
I loved seeing the fur poodle. Very clever and I’m sure you’re running around feeling liberated in the heat now, Elsa.
We returned this time last week from four days away in the Bathurst region of Central-Western NSW. Your dogs would’ve love it. We saw so many kangaroos and even managed to get some good pics. The gardens were lovely too with daffodils and jonquils everywhere. I thought of all these lovely people who planted these beauties and whether they were aware of how they cheered up passing strangers and how much gratitude I felt?!
You probably would’ve liked the cold out there. It snowed the day after we got back, which was a pity. We’ve seen so little snow.
    Take care and best wishes,
    Ro

    1. Elsa has one of the most amazing coats for a poodle. She’s #6 that I’ve owned and by far has the thickest coat. I think her hair can grow hair on it! LOL

No doubt both dogs would be most amused by bouncing ‘Roos.

  5. We told our Mom he should do that when she grooms a dog, and she said that her talent is used while the hair is on the dog, not after it falls on the table or floor. We all think your Mom is an excellent artist! And you really are and look fabulous, Elsa. It’s gotten hot here again, too, after a week or two of slightly more moderate temperatures. Well, it IS still August, right? XOX Xena, Lucy, Chia and Riley

  6. Mee-yow Elsa you ARE Simplee furabuluss mee Poochie frend!!!
Umm Miss Monika you are now doin “Fur-Art”? Furry innterestin……
Wee love THE sunset foto…such lovelee colorss!
An THE cloud fotoss are purrty furabuluss two. Our tempss are inn 70’ss which iss grate. Yet wee still have Hue-midex an it iss sticky an icky durin THE day.
    Stay safe deer frendss!
**nose bopss** BellaDharma an ((hugss)) BellaSita Mum

    1. Right back atcha sweet kitty.
The fur art wasn’t hard at all to make. I only had to do the tail and nose after I trimmed Elsa. 😉 Enjoy those pleasant temps!

  7. Elsa, even your shadow strikes quite the pose! Don’t hold it against mom too much, seeing as how you’ll be back in business just in time for the cooler weather.

    1. When you’re a dog you live in the moment. But at least she stopped being mad at me for ‘stealing’ her furs. Have a great weekend!

  8. Love the extra dog 😉 I’m sure once the deed was done, you were happy, Elsa? C’mon, it’s cooler…

And I feel ya on the power lines. Here I was in the middle of butt-f*** nowhere and had trouble taking pictures without the dang things…

    1. Thanks, I always wanted another poodle. 😂

Those wires make me half crazed. You’d think they could bury the lines at some point…I mean it’s only the 21st century 🙄

Elsa stresses out with grooming and I have to go slowly and gently so the stress doesn’t trigger a seizure. Keeping her fur shirt makes all the difference in the world since it takes less time to complete but she really hates it. Most of the time I have to scissor rather than use the clippers. 😬

        1. Apparently neither is Denver.

She’ll soldier on but it’ll be in teeny baby steps.

            1. Aye, that’s the truth. Her early years were so horrible, it’s the least I can do to make the rest of her life better.

  9. That was indeed a lot of fur; perhaps it was time… I do enjoy those towering white clouds, summer clouds… And I want to thank everyone there for visiting my blog to remember Minuet. It means something important to us here at the Cosy Apartment.

    1. So sorry for your loss of Minuet. Losing a beloved pet is very hard however this community is gentle with its thoughts when they’re needed most. Know we’re all thinking of you and hoping with time those tender moments you shared will replace the current heartbreak.

All that fur was just a trim actually. Elsa has a very thick coat.

    1. She wouldn’t be too keen on a sweater made from her furs, of that I’m quite sure! And I learned long ago to not fuss with the ninja. Hope you, Leo and the thugs all have a jolly good weekend.

    1. Thanks. You’re very generous. Those lines bug me-I feel like in some 3rd world country or something. Have a great weekend.

    1. And the weird thing is Mom didn’t realize it was this week. Probably from looking up at clouds too much 😂

    1. Thank you, sir. I keep hoping she’ll stop this trimming nonsense all together. Hope you have a great weekend.

  10. Uh oh….Looks like the fur monster has possessed your extra furs Elsa…be afraid, very afraid!!

Mama has a sky post coming up soon. the late Summer skies here in NM are just, well enchanting!
    xoxo,
    Rosy

    1. Ooh, very excited about your upcoming post. Rocky Mountain skies this time of year are pretty amazing. Have a good weekend, Rosy; I hope your Mom doesn’t decide you ‘need’ a spa day.
      Your fur-iend,
      Elsa 🐾

  11. omg that’s a robust lot of hair alright! You and Milo can grow some hair. Wish we could use it but then the ahem, scent. Milo still often wets his front leg hair when peeing.

    1. Yeah, probably wise not to use that hair! 😉 The amount of hair that girl can grow is amazing. We hope you and Milo have a pawtastic weekend.

  12. I’m so sorry your mom robbed you of all that fur. I laughed out loud and tell mom I love her sense of humor.

Have a woof woof day and weekend. Scritches all around, a smooch to Norman and a big hug to mom. ♥

    1. Oh yeah, she’s just a barrel of monkeys! Have a swell weekend, Sandee. Hugs and tail wags from everyone at the Ranch.

  13. Literally looks like another dog could have been “made” with all that hair. It rained here earlier in the week, and I am sure parents were bringing their kids to the windows having to explain what rain actually was. It is mind-boggling we had a surplus of water and greenery entering July…and then the faucet got turned off. Autumn can’t come soon enough as long as it brings some Fall-like weather (cool, rain) with it. I may spend the weekend cautiously looking behind me to see if anyone is coming for my hair with their scissors!

    1. I know, right? It always amazes me how much hair I can trim off her thick coat. And that ‘pile’ wasn’t much smaller than her actual size. Here’s hoping the scissor police leave you alone. Have a cool weekend. Both in terms of fun as well as temps.

  14. Happy National Dog Day!
I laughed until I nearly fell out of my chair at the dog-hair art. I have often felt like I could do the same thing with all the fur I pull of the little fur-balls, but I have never had the opportunity to actually do it. Good job!

    1. It was like a whole new dog…and that was just a ‘trim!’ Have a great weekend, Amy. Give the fur-balls a nice chin scritch.

  15. Oh how dare your Mom sneak up on you like that. She is sly, isn’t she. LOL! But I bet you feel a lot better Elsa, with all that hair off of you. 🙂 Happy weekend! May you all find it relaxing!

    1. Thank you, Carolyn. Yeah, Mom is a real jokester. If only I were laughing.
      Your ‘fur-iend’,
      Elsa 🐾

        1. You know to tell the truth, she’s not very impressive with my ‘jokes.’ Wonder wh?. Could it be because they usually involve middle of the night carpet cleaning? Bwahahahaha! See, I AM a funny ninja.

    1. I’m guessing she’s my evil twin…so she’s probably named Bellatrix Lestrange. 😆
