Monday Musings ~ December 30, 2024

Today is the last Monday of 2024 and as we prepared to close the door on the year, we are reminded of the pets who have departed. Many thanks to Ann at Zoolatry for sharing her lovely badge acknowledging this day.

Pet Remembrance Day

We think of our own Angels every day but especially today and send tender thoughts of comfort to all who have lost a beloved pet. Till we meet again, Norman, Sam, Puck, and Eliot. I love and miss you.

And even as we recall past pets who brought immense joy to our hearts,  Monday just isn’t Monday around the Ranch without a smile and given the time of year, this one seemed definitely appropriate. Whether you make annual New Year’s resolutions or set actual goals with a definitive plan to achieving them, we hope you’re resolved to start out the day with a smile.

Live, love, bark!  🐾

  1. Lulu: “There are pictures of all our angels in the hallway, plus a few more of Dennis and Tucker in the other room, and of course all of their little boxes are in the china cabinet.”
Chaplin: “Mama and Dada like to have everyone here together, even if some of our brothers and sisters can’t be seen anymore …”

We totally understand, we’ve got a few boxes of our own. But all our past pets still live in my heart.

A beautiful, touching, and honest description for our pets. Cheers to your love for yours.

Although my guys came out ahead, yesterday’s game was very entertaining. Broncos are on their way back.

Thanks, Frank. Your guys played better. Plain and simple. I think the Broncos peaked a tad too soon. They’ve not looked good the past couple of games. Course, considering what they did last year, it could be considered a positive outcome for the season. Good luck in the playoffs, Cincy.

I expect KC to give the Broncos a serious shellacking. They haven’t played well this year, except when it especially counted. 😉 As in all those where they squeaked by. I think Mahomes has managed to get in the heads of many opponents.

  4. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.

  5. The Persecution of Mildred Dunlap – The year 1895 was filled with memorable historical events: the Dreyfus Affair divided France; Booker T. Washington gave his Atlanta address; Richard Olney, United States Secretary of State, expanded the effects of the Monroe Doctrine in settling a boundary dispute between the United Kingdom and Venezuela; and Oscar Wilde was tried and convicted for "gross indecency" under Britian's recently passed law that made sex between males a criminal offense. When the news of Wilde's conviction went out over telegraphs worldwide, it threw a small Nevada town into chaos. This is the story of what happened when the lives of its citizens were impacted by the news of Oscar Wildes' imprisonment. It is chronicle of hatred and prejudice with all its unintended and devastating consequences, and how love and friendship bring strength and healing. Paulette Mahurin, the author, is a Nurse Practitioner who lives in Ojai, California with her husband Terry and their two dogs--- Max and Bella. My cats Freddie and Tish send their sincerest meows for a wonderful new year to all the wonderful furry family members at the ranch,

  10. I also do not do New Year’s resolutions. But this year, like you, I have a list of specific things to accomplish during 2025. I guess one could argue those are resolutions. But they aren’t. For me it’s a task list of things to focus on and to accomplish. Meanwhile, thanks as always for the Monday chuckle. As they say another trip around the sun is in the books. And when we travel around the sun it’s best done with a dog or two by your side. And for that I am very grateful. HNY M to you and the ranch hands. Thanks, Amy. I’m convinced that losing a pet therapy dog is harder because of all the intense experiences you’ve shared during visits with staff and patients. People still comment on Norman’s passing whenever they see Wilson and the older staff members fondly recall Sam. The loss seems even more pronounced yet there’s an element of pride knowing they made such a difference for others. ❤️‍🩹

      1. I hadn’t thought about it that way, but what you said is so true. I’ve not had another dog since Lexi that would be good as a therapy dog.

All three of my therapy dogs were (are) different and it’s not fair to compare them to each other. They all had their own unique spin on bringing comfort to the folks they visited for which I’ll forever be grateful.

          1. That’s good to know..Chia, surprisingly enough, is our comfort dog. Xena gets scared when I cough too hard, LOL! Lucy would never make it through wheel chairs. Chia has stayed right with me these past 2 weeks while I had the flu.

Oh gosh, I’m so sorry. It’s always hard to lose a beloved pet but seems even more difficult when it happens around the holidays. Sending you extra tender thoughts of comfort.

  17. No resolutions here. We all set goals and we achieve them. Mom misses all her furry ones who have passed but Madison is still so very fresh and painful. One day her memory will too bring smiles and not tears.

Like you, we’re not into resolutions but will create goals we wish to accomplish around the Ranch. The cartoon did make us smile about them though. We hope for the day of more smiles comes soon for you. I still tear up when thinking of dear Norman and it’s been well over a year. Have a good Monday.

  18. Long given up on New Year resolutions…I just wish I could have my old doggy friends back again for a cuddle.

We all feel that way, Helen. At least they still reside in our hearts. Happy Monday.
