Monday Musings ~ February 10, 2025

ElsaHope you survived the hype of Super Bowl LIX. While we didn’t watch the game, the outcome seemed like quite a shocker that not many had expected. Elsa here…as dogs, the House Pony and I think it should have been called Super Bowl Licks, not that Roman numeral silly jazz. Egad, I’m starting to sound like the House Pony waxing on about food. Eek! For the record, I’m improving each day but still am somewhat croupy. Mom has been running the diffuser non-stop with a respiratory formulation that seems to help loosen up the gunk now that I’m finished with the course of meds from the vet. Thanks for all your get better wishes-we appreciate it.

So…did you watch the  other “Big” game–you know the one where you weren’t bombarded with gambling apps or “AI is good for you” commercials? Puppy Bowl XXI was full of excitement; we were rooting for team Fluff and little Maya (who was fostered by fellow blogger, creative writing teacher, and novelist, Cara Achterberg). You can read her Another Good Dog™️ blog posts here. While Maya didn’t score a touchdown, she had an adorable bout of the zoomies in the second period that made us laugh. Maya’s DNA Wisdom Panel revealed that she was part Dobermann. Who’d have thought that? Do you see a Dobermann here between those ears?

Over 140 puppies from 80 shelters across 40 states and two countries, were part of the “longest-running call-to-adoption television event.” Puppy Bowl contestants all get adopted, making it one of the more successful ‘adopt, don’t shop’ campaigns by raising the importance of pet adoption with its “Pup Close and Personal” segments that provide back stories for many of the furry contestants and it warms our heart to see dogs with disabilities in the line-up.

Here are some video highlights in case you missed the actual game.

Even if we are playing armchair quarterbacks today (what the dog happened to the Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs), Monday still means we’re going to start the week with a smile. Wishing you and yours a ‘pawtastic’ week. We couldn’t decide on a single smile and since I’m feeling generous, here are two. It’s going to be a very busy week for us with something going on each day, so we may be tardy visiting all of you. Wilson has hospital duty for a couple of days and Mom will be running around like a chicken with its head cut off taking care of me and other commitments. Please be patient; we’ll do our best. Have a great Monday and an even better week.

And while you’re at it…stay warm. Winter has decided to make a return appearance in the 303 this week. Bundle up sports fans. Have a Happy Monday.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

It’s a wonderful event that helps many young pets who find themselves without homes. We support this broadcast every year-it’s a feel good story all around. And we were especially thrilled to learn the first ever senior coach Chihuahua, Ladybug was also adopted. Yay!

Many thanks, Peachie, Stippy and Granny. Watching all those puppies (and kittens during the halftime show) made us smile inside and out. Too adorable.

Exactly! Who doesn’t let the dog get up on the couch? 😂 (or more accurately, who can keep them ‘off’ the couch?)

  2. BellaDharma an BellaSita Mum – On Georgian Bay..... – Welcome to THE Purrfect Pad. My name is Sherri-Ellen & my current Kitty Girl is BellaDharma a black part Siamese cat. I started blogging in August 2005 on Yahoo 360 with Mingflower my Bluepoint Siamese. Then transferred to Multiply...Mingflower went to Summerland & NYLABLUE my BluePoint Siamese/Burmese cross took over. When Multiply was closing a handful of our blogging friends recommended WordPress & we found a home here & made many new friends. Everyone followed the antics & struggles of NYLABLUE until her passing Nov. 22nd, 2014 to Summerland. A week later a little bouncing Burmese boy I met at a local adoption event joined me here! Dec. 9th, 2014. Purrince Siddhartha Henry came to live with me & regaled us with his journey towards 'Enlightenment'. He was a Burmese Buddhist with many health issues but he searched for meaning in his Life. After his lifelong struggle with Panleukopenia. Siddhartha Henry lost his battle & left for Pure Land August 28th, 2018. He was only 4 years & 1 month old. I've never totally gotten over the loss of my "Little Man". And this is where I get VERY serious. This Purrfect Pad blog is not all sunshine & roses. This blog is about REAL life with special needs cats who come into my life. We share our time together & we share the good, the bad & the ugly. This is a REAL blog. Yes we DO laugh & have fun & take Selfies! And we share each cat's struggles whether health issues or behavioural problems. And we share about my ongoing battle with 3 health conditions that can render me unable to walk plus having Cirrhosis of Liver & Seizures. We ask our friends & followers to respect that THE Purrfect Pad is anything but 'purrfect'. I am disabled & each of my cats' have had special needs. Everyone is welcome here as long as you are kind & respectful. If you have questions feel free to ask them. Sept. 6th, 2018 BellaDharma aka Baby Girl joined THE Purrfect Pad. We hope all of you will follow our life together as BellaDharma learns how to be a domesticated cat instead of a semi-feral one.... Love, Peace & Treets, Sherri-Ellen (BellaSita Mum) & BellaDharma & 'angels' Purrince Siddhartha Henry; Nylablue 'Sweet Feet' & Mingflower the Merciless & all my other cats who have shared my life with me. You are all loved & remembered...

Your Monday Musings are also good on Tuesdays. I did watch the Super Bowl … a total domination … and thanks to you I watched much of the Puppy Bowl!

Tuesday works too. 😉 Yeah I only tuned in to see the score. Talk about carnage. But happily watched the whole Puppy Bowl (and kitten halftime show) where everyone was a winner even if Team Fluff scored more points. 😉

Elsa we hope you continue to get better and better! My Mom watched the Super Bowl until half time when the Super Bowl started watching her (because she fell asleep!). It wasn’t very exciting so no surprise she fell asleep. Anyway, we are going to have a lot more snow starting today and ice tomorrow SO we may lose power AGAIN like last week. Sigh. Winter is no fun sometimes!

    Hugs, Teddy

We’re joining you on the snow front along with bitter temps for the next few days. Tomorrow’s high may only reach 20…if we’re lucky. Not looking forward to the bitter cold. We didn’t watch the Super Bowl, instead choosing to watch puppies and kitties and no one can sleep watching their antics. Everytime I turned it to check on the game, it became worse looking for KC. Guess their magic just didn’t work to get a win.

The Puppy Bowl, and kittens at half-time were adorable. Our 4 year old granddaughter loves it.
There’s apparently a kitten bowl now, too. We didn’t see it.

It’s been a slow process. She’s still got a wheezing kind of cough but it’s better from last week. The Puppy Bowl showed kittens at half time. Too cute. Guess I’m just a 4 year old at heart because I just love this event and watch it every year. Wasn’t aware there’s a separate kitten bowl-it looks like it was on a different channel.

I can imagine it’s hard to hear her wheezing. I’m glad she’s getting better, though.
Hey, I can think of a lot of things that are worse than being a 4 year old at heart! The puppy bow is adorable!

  6. Glad to hear your health is improving, Elsa. I hear that there are lots of viruses going around these days, no fun at all. I hope the busy week is padded with lots of rest in-between!

Thanks for the sweet game summary video…I was at work and missed both the puppy bowl, and the real game…though I wasn’t rooting for any one in particular. I know a couple of residents were rooting for the Eagle….so they’ll be happy.

Those were cute funnies…and we got more snow on Saturday, with a winter storm coming later this week.

I fell on some ice when I was trying to get the walk slated to prevent falls…what?? Now my wrist hurts so much, I may need to go to urgent care in the morning…sigh.

Always something, as well as the wager softener decided to go on the blink and flood our cellar, UGH! I asked hubby what word be the third thing, and he reminded me that he need to get the passenger side of his car fixed cause he broke off that side’s mirror…oops!

Glad I’m not the only one who’s over the NFL. And like all the other sports leagues, you have to hunt them down like a stalker to see which channel they’re going to be on. Ugh. Hockey has really gotten bad about that. So irritating. It’s the only sport I actually enjoy anymore. The players don’t act like they’re curing cancer when they make a tackle. Sheesh. The Puppy Bowl was adorably cute and so was the kitten halftime entertainment. 😹

  9. We wanted both teams to lose since we can’t stand either team so we didn’t watch it at all either. Hope you feel better soon, Elsa. Here we are in the frigid zone and are happy about it as well as our fresh weekend snow. Hopefully we can find more snow and keep it all for at least a few weeks. Winter is our favorite time of the year and we have missed it until now.

I totally understand. Hockey is my sport. They have turned the the Super Bowl into a bit of a circus and at my age, I’m no longer the target audience. The Puppy Bowl (and Kitten halftime show) was great entertainment. And no stupid AI commercial pitches or an overabundance of gambling app ads. They’re the worst.

I love the music of the '60s and '70s since I was growing up in those decades. I love the Beatles and Andy Williams equally.

Love the smiles – both of them!! The Zs and I didn’t watch any TV at all until bedtime yesterday. After we cozied up in/on the bed, I put on the PBS channel on Prime and watched the newest episode of “All Creatures Great and Small” before going to sleep. I have no love for pro football and didn’t remember the puppy bowl until it was over.

Glad you’re feeling better, Elsa! Hope the “croupy” feeling will be gone soon!!

Not having a dog in the fight, I wasn’t bery interested either. Besides, I don’t think they are targeting me as part of their audience. The Puppy Bowl was more my speed plus I had plenty of stuff to do around the house. No need to watch men pummel one another, then jump up and act like they’ve cured cancer or listen to music that’s not my jam. 😉

  12. John W. Howell – South Texas Gulf Coast – I have been working in business for over forty years and now have the time to work in special areas of interest. My passion has always been to create compelling stories of fiction. I have authored six novels and am working on my Seventh. The first novel is still in manuscript form and being utilized as a door stop in the laundry room. The second is a contemporary fiction novel of 89,000 words and is complete and I am currently seeking a publisher. I also write poetry but have not had the guts to share any with anyone. The one time I read a piece to a person their only comment was, “it doesn’t rhyme.” I will continue to write and hopefully my blog, Fiction Favorites at www.johnwhowell.com will provide some entertainment and an interesting thought or two. I live in the Austin area with my wife Molly and an assortment of loving pets.
    John W. Howell says:

We watched the puppy bowl with great interest. We were glued to the set and per your last post cheered for Maya. Of course, there was a Boston Terrier and Frienchie who grabbed our attention too. We hope you get completely well, Elsa and now that your meds are complete will just take time. All the best to you and a hello to Wilson. – Twiggy and Tempeste.

Glad you were able to tune in. I saw that Boston and the Frenchie brother/sister pair. They were pretty cute. This year there were more purebreds than I’ve seen in the past which no doubt adds to viewership. We recorded it so we could watch later when it was more convenient. It was a fun day tuning in and because I knew Maya was there, I really looked for her. What a cutie-loved her zoomies.

I know, right? Puppies are extra cute when they’re zooming around that mini gridiron. Found myself yucking it up several times and saying “awwww” a lot. Wilson kept thinking I was referring to him. LOL Hope you have a pawsome week.

Thank you-that was very kind of you to say. It was a lovely way to escape from all the ‘noise’ lately. Nothing cuter than a bunch of puppies and kitties. Happy Monday.

  15. I was surprised by the game results too.

Love the snowball one. I laughed out loud.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to the pups and a hug to mom. ♥

Thanks Sandee. After the ‘Big Chill’ arrived after a week full of spring like weather, I saw that snowball meme and knew I had to share it. Thanks for adding us to Awww Mondays-you’re always the best. Have a super Monday and an event better week. Hugs and tail wags from all of us.

Since we had no dog in the big game, we wanted KC to earn a three-peat but it was not meant to be. The Eagles just played better and totally deserved the win-good for them. Happy Monday.

We did watch the Super Bowl, only football I ever watch…it was a sad little game for Kansas City. I’m glad they at least got some scores before it was all over. Watched some of Puppy Bowl as well, before I had to take a nap. Covid and a UTI at the same time is a bit much. Hopefully I’ll feel a lot better by the end of this week. I’m pretty bored of being sick.

Oh gosh, a UTI on top of COVID? So sorry. Sending you loads of healing energy. Yeah, I was very surprised KC didn’t play better. Guess the Eagles just seemed to have the right recipe for the win. Best wishes to both teams. And even better wishes to all the dogs who were adopted. We love this event!

It is great to have the puppy bowl which gives national attention to adoption. The kittens got a little nod there too at halftime.

Yes, while they don’t get the attention that the puppies do, it’s good to know they also get adopted. Plus they’re pretty adorable too.

  18. Sounds like a lot going on at the Ranch this week. All the best for a gunkless and healthy week. Also, hoping you find that chickens head! It’s gotta be around somewhere…. 😎.
