Monday Musings ~ August 18, 2025

Happy Monday, peeps. Wilson and I have finally recovered from many visits with nurses, patients and hospital visitors last week and are close to catching  up on our blog reading. We were so busy last week we even neglected to post our usual Nature Friday piece. Truthfully I didn’t have the bandwidth to be creative and with our schedule so jam-packed, I hadn’t managed to find any opportunities to capture photos either. Add in hot temps, well you might be able to see why we weren’t too keen about looking for slices of nature.

Hopefully with a return to a more balanced schedule this week, there will be some opportunities for some outside time, at least early in the day as this week’s forecast still calls for more 90’sF (32C) until at least the end of the week.

Today’s smile comes from the cultural phenomena known as the El Arroyo Restaurant of Austin, Texas. Serving up tasty Tex-Mex dishes for the past 25 years. It also is well known for its iconic sign that always elicits lots of visitors who just stop by  to snap a pic and have a good laugh and you know me…I can’t resist a good pun, especially on a Monday.

Naturally when Wilson finds something shareable, it’s likely to include an element of food. That said, he thought the message was a waste of a good bone. We wish that today’s smile is the beginning of a great week for you and yours. Happy Monday.

    1. So glad you enjoyed it! It was a good chuckle for me to start the day. Here’s hoping the last half of the week is good for you.

  1. Java Bean: “Ayyy, did someone say bones?! Yes please!”
Lulu: “We know you guys are worn out from all your visiting, but we also know it must have been really good for everyone you saw. We know our Dada really appreciated it when he had a dog stop by to see him while he was in the hospital!”

    1. Yes, we love bringing smiles to folks even when we get behind. Wilson says Bean has the right idea!

  2. I thought it was well past time that I dropped in to say hello! I love that sign!

    1. Lovely to have to drop in-it’s good to hear from you. Thank you. Glad you enjoyed the sign. Hope you are doing well. Hugs and tail wiggles.

  3. I love that sign! Glad you and Wilson are getting some respite this week! I can certainly empathize with you over the temps! And like you, don’t get me started on the 💩 that’s going on politically. The Z Kids send tail wags along with my hugs.

    1. Thanks, so glad you liked the sign. It made me chuckle when I found it. Yeah, the crazy politics lately are even more weird than ever. I’m going to stop saying “what can he do today that’s outrageous, stupid or insane” to surprise me because he just manages to up the ante.

Please give the Z-Kids a nice ear rub from me and Wilson. Happy Monday!

  4. I’m glad you are getting somewhat caught up Wilson, you sure have been busy. That’s a fun funny!

    1. Thanks Terry. Glad you enjoyed it. We’re trying to get caught up, Mum’s a bit slow in her old age. 😂 Happy Monday.

    1. Thanks, Dorothy. That restaurant is known for their sign which makes people laugh all the time. Happy Monday!

    1. Many thanks, Dan. Glad you enjoyed the sign. They are well known for their puny humor, as well as their Tex-Mex. Wishing you a pawtastic week!

    1. You’re too kind. Thanks. Yeah, last week was go-go-go. But at least we were able to brighten the hospital with our visits. This week looks much more easily manageable. Have a terrific Monday.

  5. I hope you both get some rest this week. Love that sign. I laughed out loud.

I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a fabulous day and week. Scritches to Wilson and a big hug to mom. ♥

    1. So glad you laughed at today’s shared smile. It cracked me up. Thank you for add us to your blog hope-we always appreciate it. Have a super wagnificient Monday and a better week!

    1. That’s an understatement, Helen. Last week was brutally busy and unfortunately a lot of it required driving in hot temps. In our books, that’s no bueno. Happy Monday.

    1. Yay…we’re always glad when folks enjoy our puns and silliness. We’ve got a HUGE wildfire that’s playing havoc with the air quality and pray it will get under control soon. Withy drought like conditions and windy conditions, it makes it that much harder. Hope you have a great Monday. Ear rubs for the Golden Girls.

  6. Busy week you’ve had but we’re happy to see you and all those hospital visits you and Mr. Smiley (!) made certainly brought some sunshine to people there. It’s all good – and WE LOVE that restaurant sign! Reminds me how important a funny bone can be – you need one these days!!!!!

    Love, Pam and Teddy

    1. Aye, indeed he was a hit at Lutheran. Isn’t that sigh hilarious? We chuckled out loud when we saw it. Have a pawtastic Monday!

  7. We’re fine. It was our week to do our pet therapy visits at the local hospital where Wilson visits patients, visitors and hospital staff and brings them some smiles. Glad you enjoyed today’s sign-I had to chuckle when I saw it. Happy Monday!

  8. If you must be absent, doing pet therapy at the hospitals and homes is a great reason. Just loved the sign, and will remember it to share a laugh with some friends.

    1. Yes, pet therapy is balm for the soul and for everyone it touches. Sharing a smile is the best thing one can do for others. Here’s hoping you have lots of shareable smiles this week!

  9. Love the sign. Sorry Wilson!! I hope the temps in your area cool sooner than later. We are finally into the 70’s and low 80’s this week…feels like heaven. I hope your pet therapy schedule calms down a little too. We love doing those visits, I know, but they are exhausting as well.

    1. Thanks; we’re good for another month. It never seems to fail, all sorts of commitments come up the week we end up going to hospital. I think the first day we saw close to 50 people and Wilson was a trooper, but you’re right, it’s very exhausting work for dog and handler! But it’s all good; we love doing it and welcome bringing a few moments of pawsitivity. I’m so looking forward to the temps dropping and wouldn’t mind a shower or three. 😉 Have a swell Monday!

      1. Gracie and I come home from visits just trashed. Especially the airport visits where we see a new person every couple minutes or so, and we’re there for two hours. We both need a nice long nap! You have a swell Monday and a good week too.

  10. A welcome giggle to begin the week (also, if we may put on our pawlitical-hats yet again) appropriate as we watch our former hometown, and next door neighbor city turn
into a “laughing stock” as the not-funny-at-all orangeman calls in more and more troops. Thankfully I do think our good mayor and very good governor (Maryland) will not allow it to happen here … and very thankful through some grace from Mother Nature, temperatures suddenly moved downward into the 70s, what a surprise though with storms all weeks which will send JuneyCat into her closet for sure. Glad you’ve a quiet time ahead, and Wilson, too: much needed respite for you both.

    1. Glad you enjoyed today’s sign-it’s a good way to start out the week with a chuckle. That said, it’s hard watching the scene from our capitol. I’ve long advocated for statehood for the District. It’s more than alarming this federal government can go into any city with National Guard members without invitation. And don’t get me started about the misrepresentations about crime. Make that outright lies. I swear, it’s shocking that (a) he’s so pathological and (b) most people just shrug. He needs to be held accountable with the only thing that bothers him…public criticism and low ratings. Hope you have a good Monday and a better week.

    1. That sounds divine! In fact, we’re rather jealous of your good fortune. Happy Monday!

        1. Indian summer can still be warm but the evenings are cooler. We’d be happy with that. These 80+ degree nights at midnight are not normal!

  11. Do I understand that your absence was due to doctor and medical appointments? In any event, I trust all is well. As always, thank you for your sense of humor.

Feel free to bark your thoughts...but please no growling.
