Monday Musings ~ August 17, 2026

Happy Monday, Glitter Gremlins…hope you enjoyed a great weekend. For the record, it’s not spiders that bother me as much as that one nasty, buzzing all around your head mosquito while you’re trying to sleep. You know, the one you can’t seem to swat away and it’s too hot to pull the sheet over your ears so you don’t hear him but hey, I get it. This is what happens when you leave spiders alone…they likely will get that mosquito for you and you could be able to enjoy a nice rejuvenating sleep while they slink back into the dark places in the back of the closet. Just saying.

Here’s wishing you a peaceful night of sleep without any flying or crawling critters this week. Happy Monday!

Live, love, bark! 🐾

    1. 🙂 They’re not so bad when you realize they do good things in the garden. Thanks for dropping by. We 💙 visitors.

  1. MOL on the cartoon, Wilson😸We don’t mind mosquitos, we don’t know they were there, until they’ve already stung us😹Double Pawkisses for a Happy Weekend to you and your mommy too🐾😽💞

    1. Glad you enjoyed the cartoon. We despise mosquitos all the time but especially when they come inside. They’re such a nuisance.

  2. I remember this one time we had this annoying mosquito doing its dance around our blankets and we matched the mosquito’s pitch and spent the next few minutes rapping 🤣🤣

    1. Thanks, Nimi. I love that you were able to make an otherwise annoying visit into something fun. Good for you!

  3. Mosquitos love me, ugh!

As for spiders, I try not to kill them but there are times . . like the other day, when I just am not sure about a particular one. After I squashed him, I did have this idea that his peeps were watching. Me no likey.

    1. LOL…that’s gotta make for some interesting nights on top of the bed with a bat. Around here there are lots of spiders, all harmless. 99.9% of the time black widows (the only one I know of that can be dangerous) live in dark, hard to reach corners of the garage-I can’t remember the last time I saw one. I think they avoid humans as much as humans avoid them. Truthfully with our lack of humidity I’m surprised there are any spiders.

      1. Hahahahaha!

Yeah I try to save them every chance I can but there are times when it’s not possible and then I feel bad. But I fear the brown spider and if I find that one bears too close a resemblance . . .

        1. Understandable. Splat seems practically appropriate in uncertain situations. Stay safe.

    1. Oh yeah, now I recall. I get that. 100%! And I’d likely be part of the “we’re gonna need a bigger bat” contingent.

    1. I’m with you. We have lots of wolf spiders and I love that they keep pests at bay. I’ve carried a few outside in a loose tissue and let them go in the mulch. I don’t even mind the black widows since they usually hang out in the garage and I can’t ever remember them in the house. Have a terrific week!

  4. That is funny. I like spiders so it wouldn’t bother me, but if it was a tick or something I would be like that.

    1. Yeah, ticks are definitely no bueno. Hope it was a good Monday. Enjoy the rest of the week.

    1. Thanks, Crystal. that cartoon made me giggle. Have a splendid Monday and an even better week.

  5. The amount of sleep lost for me is directly proportionate to how big the spider is, Monika. Then again, if my wife is also aware of any loose critter at all she will get her shut-eye…while I remain awake looking for it with both eyes.👀

    1. Hahaha! There are some big spiders around the ‘Barn’ but a tissue works great taking them outside to reign chaos on crawly bugs…and I’m good with that. It’s those cotton picking mosquitos that get no mercy from me! Have a great Monday, Bruce.

    1. A lot of people feel that way. They don’t bother me, I just scoop them up in a tissue and take them outside where they can devour all the gross bugs to their hearts content. 😄

  6. I hope you swatted him in the end. We seem to be over the heatwave with a much better 77F today. Warm enough for shorts and a T-shirt, but workable. I’m now looking forward to Autumn (Fall) and all of those hearty casseroles and stews 😀

    1. Oh yes, no mosquito survives long around me! I hate those buggers and will do whatever it takes to eliminate them. But boy are they annoying until a death knell is delivered.

Ahh yes, autumn (BTW, only 37 days-whoopee!). It can’t come soon enough. We’re heating up again this week after a few days of mild temps and a smidgeon of rain. Certainly not enough but better than a sharp stick in the eye. I’m getting ready to yearn for homemade soups on chilly nights. #paradise! Have a great weekend enjoying more pleasant temps.

    1. Exactly! You can hear them but seeing them is a skill set I clearly do not possess. We hope your week is mosquito free.

    1. {Shudders} Centipedes creep me out but like spiders, I’ll use a Kleenex to set it outside. Flying critters are fair game for squashing. Here’s hoping there are no bugs in your immediate future. Happy Monday.

  7. Hahaha! Ain’t that the truth. Or that one green bottle fly that buzzes around you, driving you nuts until you finally manage to lock it into the bathroom with you where you will swat until it’s dead…

I keep forgetting to tell you that I LOVE your header painting.

    Happy Monday, Monika!

    1. I really get annoyed at flying bugs. The crawly ones don’t bother me as much, except for crickets. Those bad boys are crawling public enemy No. 1! Have a terrific Monday. Thanks for commenting on the header. You’re too kind. 🥰

      1. Crickets – those little beasties prevent me from opening my windows at night! It would be nice to have fresh air but nooooo… they are so LOUD.
Thank you for the Monday wishes. I already want it to be over but hey… half the workday is done so….

the header is beautiful! I wish I had half your talent.

        1. Loud and they’ll eat various articles of clothing. Those guys rank right up there with squirrels in my books!

You’re too kind. Trust me, I’m not that talented-just lucky.

          1. Luckily the buggers have not made an entry into my house this year. Last year I killed a few in the basement…

            No. You are talented.

    1. Flying insects give me nightmares. I envision being infected with malaria or some other horrible disease by them. And it’s been too hot to cover my head to keep that annoying buzz at bay. Sigh. Happy Monday!

      1. I hope they stay away from you and that you have a very happy Monday!
No lie! After I posted my comment to you about NOT liking spiders I went out to sit on my patio and one crawled onto my hand!!

    1. Oh no…we don’t like critter decorations. We hope your mama has a bug free Monday!

  8. I remember as a kid if I heard a mosquito the top sheet went over my head no matter how hot it was (no a/c then!). This was before I knew of all the creepy diseases they could bring.

    1. Buzzing mosquitos give me nightmares! It’s been too hot to cover my head AND worry about them. They drive me crazy and I can’t sleep. We hope you have a bug free sleep. Guess I’m gonna need to start training Wilson to catch mosquitos. Happy Monday.

    1. Awwwk! I certainly don’t want to run into any of those! Hope your week is bug free.

  9. Our Squeakers takes care of bugs and especially flies. She hates flies. You did make me chuckle.

I linked this post to my Awww Monday Blog Hop as always.

Have a fabulous day and week, my friend. Love and hugs to you and lots of scritches to handsome Wilson. ♥

    1. Glad you enjoyed today’s chuckle, Sandee. Wilson is no fan of flies but he seems to have depth perception issues. 😂 Thanks for including us in your Monday Blog. You’re always so kind to us. Wilson and I so appreciate you. We hope you have a wonderful Monday.

  10. Spiders. Out of sight out of mind? As far as flying creatures, our nemesis is the fly. 🪰 And when I say our, I mean Kloe. She freaks out if there is a fly buzzing around at night in the bedroom. Dad needs to hunt the fly down and kill it so we can all get a good night sleep. I’ve actually become quite good at it.

Off to vacuum the back of the closet. 😉 Have a great week!

    1. Wilson is the worst fly catcher I’ve ever seen. But he is super entertaining with his feeble tries. Flies are annoying but at least I don’t have nightmares about contracting malaria or some other horrible disease like I do with mosquitos. Let’s hope we all are undisturbed by flying pests this week. Happy Monday, Mike!

    1. I thought it was too but then I was ‘visited’ by a mosquito and thought I’d roll out a welcome mat for a spider who could rid us of the annoying little buzz machine. Happy Monday!

  11. Camping…now there’s a topic that is full of unpleasantness once the sun goes down. The crawly things and the dirt…umm. hard pass for me! 😂 Wilson is pretty good when it comes to Orkin control but those doggone mosquitos really bug me (pun intended). Enjoy a bug-less Monday.

  12. Teddy manages to get any bugs that sneak in when the doors open and close around here…..BUT this ‘toon reminds me of one of the reasons I did NOT like camping in a tent – BUGS!!!! EEEK.

    Hugs, Pam
