Welcome to the last official day of the 2026 summer. Tomorrow begins astronomical autumn although I will note meteorological autumn began September 1, 2026. Either way, at the time of writing, it’s a delightful 52F (11.1C) at the beginning our early morning walk. It’s paradise in our books.
One of the breed traits for sheepdogs is they love staying close to their humans. Wilson maintains a heavy paw on that characteristic. Nothing like moving his largess at certain times. Guess I should be grateful, but at least he’s not on top of me.

I tend to go by the astronomical dates, too. I’m sure Mother Nature is more correct that than a man-made calendar. Here in England, all the tree leaves turn golden, red, and brown before dropping, mist rises from the fields in the mornings, and there’s a coolness is in the air. We start eating hearty soups, and stews. Comfort foods like chilli, lamb hotpot, and slow-cooked beef brisket. If you go for a walk in the early evening, as it starts to get dark, you cannot help but glance through people’s windows and wonder what conversations are taking place as people play happy families. It’s a time of good will and looking out for neighbours, knowing that the short days and long nights can be lonely for some. It truly is my most favourite time of the year.
It’s our favorite time as well. Not just because of the beautiful changing of the leaves but that special glow of light that we see. So far our leaves are mostly still green (and brown on every stressed trees) but the aspen trees are getting more golden with every day. Altitude and moisture probably impact the change. Either way it makes me very happy and I’m looking forward to cooking hearty meals in the near future. Enjoy the rest of your week.
I think it is a boy thing. Most nights I sleep on the cold bathroom tile floor while the girls prefer to be in the bed with Mom.
He follows me wherever I go-he just wants to be within a paw’s length. I can be in there for 20 seconds and he’ll be right there and then follow me into the next room. He’s such a Velcro boy.

In the swamps, autumn starts when it good and well pleases and it’s different every year. We’ve mowed the lawns at Christmas here, and about frozen our assets off at Halloween, depending upon the whim of nature that year.

The mornings have been glorious and most afternoons have become quite lovely as well. The evenings, can’t beat ’em. Now . . if only it would stay right there for the next six months. Okay . . I know I’m dreaming.

Our dogs wanted to be with one of us. The last one had to be with one of us all the time. If we were walking behind her, she’d stop and turn back to look.
All my dogs ( for the most part) followed me around, but Wilson is without a doubt, the one that’s always the closest to me. He will follow me from room to room even if I just dropping off some towels or laundry. I’ve never seen anything like him! Hope you have a terrific week, Dan.

He’s always been that way. It’s not unusual for sheepdogs to be so Velcro like. All of my sheepdogs would follow me wherever I went. That thought it was their job but Wilson takes it to a whole other level.
He’s adorable, too.

Haha, sort of a different vibe than cats and bathrooms. You’re in there with the door closed and the cat’s begging Meow, meow, let me in! Then you let him and he’s like, OK bye! and leaves.

I’m so glad to be over the 90’s-goodness knows we had our share. But at least ours is a ‘dry heat.’ Have a wonderful week-we hope it gets cooler.

It is easy for me to say from a safe distance, but I love the idea of Wilson not leaving you a lot of room. He’s your boy, and I love his dedication to keeping an eye on you…if not his whole body. So glad your temps are sliding down. Not supposed to hit 70F here until next week. Gonna get more rain as well. This is the first time in several years the Autumn starts out with everything being green before their colors start to change. Happy Monday, Monika (and you too Wilson, since you’re right there)!
Thanks, Bruce. There’s a lovely crispness in the air and I for one love it. A big furry (read hot) head on my thighs when I’m in the bathroom, not quite as much but there’ll come a time when I’d given anything for it so I’ll just let him ‘love’ on me. Things are mostly green here too in the city-the mountain though are a little bit early. We’ll enjoy it all, well except for all the raking of cottonwood leaves. Those are already shedding and will continue for the next 6 months! Enjoy your week.

There is no leaving any room without the company of Twiggy and Tempeste. No matter the destination, they are there to offer support and, if needed, hold a beer.
Now THAT would be a good trick to teach Wilson! He follows me into whatever room I go into, even if just for a second. I feel badly about all those extra efforts. He needs to save those joints. Have a fantastic Monday.

No matter if I’m just putting towels away, he’s right there and always camps out in front of the John. It never fails! We’re so excited the temps have been lovely-the only downside is there’s less sunlight. But I’ll take it if it means no more 90+ degrees! Haver a wonderful Monday, Terry.

I have cat escorts and protection for those pesky bathroom calls. They think there is a wormhole in there that will take me someplace without them.
I had no idea cats were bathroom attendants! Apparently anything greater than the size of a paw away from me is a criminal offense and he makes sure I’m never out of sight. Sigh. But I know at some point, I’ll give just about anything for him to be under foot and try to keep that in mind as I try to do jungle gym moves to get to comfortably use the facilities. It never fails, Wilson is either directly in front of the toilet or the tub, so much so I’ve learned Tai Chi to maneuver over him. Maybe it’s a good thing he doesn’t have thumbs! Happy Monday.

Snicker. Maybe she’s part sheepdog. Privacy is not something sheepdogs are familiar with…at least not in my experience. All of mine have been bathroom attendants but Wilson takes it to a whole ‘nother level. Enjoy a great Monday.
Funny…. As We enter fall you’re looking ahead with anticipation of the days ahead and I’m looking in my rear view mirror lamenting how summer was so fleeting and how I’d like another few weeks and several more days of low 90’s. Maybe I should move to AZ 🤓. Mom Nature is out of each our control so bravo for you each year embracing the road ahead. I need to learn that!
