Charlee: “Butterfly!”
Chaplin: “Oh yeah! Almost as good as a moth!”
Lulu: “Why only almost?”
Charlee: “Because moths get in the house so we can chase them, but butterflies always stay outside.”
Lulu: “Butterflies must be smarter, then.”
Swallowtails are awesome!
The heat is uncomfortable, but with it, my tomatoes and chilies are finally putting on some growth. I remain hopeful for at least one of each.
Cathy, I think that’s a penstemon (also known as beardtongue). That particular one is not in my garden, but close by. I have other penstemons though-they do well in the Mile High City especially in xeriscaped gardens since they don’t require a lot of water. Bees and butterflies particularly like purplish colored plants.
I have always loved watching butterflies β any butterfliesβ¦..I get upset when I see one tattered and torn but βsoldieringβ onβ¦. brave and beautiful is a grand combination!
Beautiful shot. It harkens memories of being a kid and running with a net on a stick chasing these guys And Monarchs through the park for hours. Occasionally Iβd get one and usually just let go…
Beautiful picture!! It is like I am there with you. π
Well, weβre always grateful for the company. π
I will be your virtual company. π
ππ» Pawsome!
Great photograph, telling a beautiful story.
Thanks, John. These two have quite the conversations π

Hee hee…you guys would be in 7th heaven here in the Mile High. There are a jillion miller moths inside and outside just waiting to be chased.
I love love love Swallowtails!
They’re one of my favorites because of their showiness and size. So impressive.
I never remember the names of butterflies, other than the Monarch, so thank you! π Gorgeous shot!
Donβt feel bad, monarch is the only another butterfly whose name I can remember. π
Isn’t it beautiful! Here we call that butterfly ritariperhonen, a knight butterfly, only it’s heels are shorter than yours. An excellent photo!
Thank you, these guys aren’t seen that often in the city so this was a very lucky shot.
That is one BEAUTIFUL Buttipillar! We’ve had a few come around lately, butts Ma never has her camera or phone with her! sigh.
Kisses,
Ruby β₯
I rarely see swallowtails in the city so this was a lucky capture.
Delicate and beautiful
So fascinating to watch too.
Swallowtails are very showy. The fact that they’re so much bigger than most is all the better.
We’re having a Wisconsin summer here in TN. No complaints, and what a great shot!
Thanks. Itβs hotter than bloody blue blazes lately. 96 this afternoon. π₯΅
That’s our “normal” weather for this time of year. Mother nature must have gotten her states mixed up.
Shall I forward it on toward TN? π
Nah, we’re ok, thanks, though.

Wow! Wonderful capture, that must have been beautiful to see!

Thanks, he must have been pretty ravenous since I got fairly close to him and he never flitted away.
There is such a majestic quality to butterflies.
They are very ethereal creatures. π¦
Great word! π
It sure is and, at least in this case IMHO, one that really says it all.
It really does. Beauty of a capture, Monika
Why thanks, Marco! Appreciate the kind words.
π
Absolutely stunning photograph Monika!!!
Bring on Summer time!!
((hugs)) Sherri-Ellen & **purrss** BellaDharma
Why thank you for the kind words. I really like all butterflies, but think swallowtails are my absolute favorite.
Beautiful!!
Thanks! Those guys are so showy, they’re begging to be photographed.
A lovely shot….brings summer to mind!
Hard to get more summery than butterflies, especially with the toasty temps which these guys don’t seem to mind.
A perfect shot. Wow, just wow.
Have a fabulous Wordless Wednesday, my friend. Scritches to the pups. β₯
Gosh…blush, blush. Thanks, Sandee! The pups are grateful for the scritches.
I love the color combination- yellow and purple. Lovely photo.
Swallowtails can make the simplest of flowers look extraordinary.
Swallowtails are awesome!

Oh yes, ‘maters and peppers LOVE this nice dry heat. Me, not so much!
Beautiful shot, Monika. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, John. Swallowtails are such stunning creatures, they practically beg to be photographed.
True. π
Gorgeous!!
Why thank you. Very kind praise coming from a master of beautiful shots.
I dunno, Missy. I think you have a talent all your own!
You’re very kind to say that. Thank you.
I’m honest!

I’ve been looking for a purple plant – those are gorgeous are they yours? What are they?

They are remarkable creatures. Especially love watching them drink nectar from flowers. π¦
Beautiful shot. It harkens memories of being a kid and running with a net on a stick chasing these guys And Monarchs through the park for hours. Occasionally Iβd get one and usually just let go…
What a lovely memory you conjured up– all those summer days with neighborhood friends chasing bugs and playing amateur scientist.
a big shout out to nature for continuing on despite our human frailties.
Swallowtails are so showy. And the way they float from flower to flower is mesmerizing.
isn’t that the the perfect match?
Definitely very summery but with the heat, I’m already counting down the days to autumn. Only 96 days to go. π
Sounds like you prefer the cool weather. I like it warm but where I live, near the beach, it rarely gets too hot.
Yes, I do prefer cooler temps. Or at least those that don’t mimic pizza oven temps. π
