  1. Charlee: “Butterfly!”
Chaplin: “Oh yeah! Almost as good as a moth!”
    Lulu: “Why only almost?”
Charlee: “Because moths get in the house so we can chase them, but butterflies always stay outside.”
Lulu: “Butterflies must be smarter, then.”

    1. Hee hee…you guys would be in 7th heaven here in the Mile High. There are a jillion miller moths inside and outside just waiting to be chased.

    1. They’re one of my favorites because of their showiness and size. So impressive.

    1. Donโ€™t feel bad, monarch is the only another butterfly whose name I can remember. ๐Ÿ˜‡

    1. Thank you, these guys aren’t seen that often in the city so this was a very lucky shot.

    1. Swallowtails are very showy. The fact that they’re so much bigger than most is all the better.

    1. Thanks. Itโ€™s hotter than bloody blue blazes lately. 96 this afternoon. ๐Ÿฅต

  2. Wow! Wonderful capture, that must have been beautiful to see!

    1. Thanks, he must have been pretty ravenous since I got fairly close to him and he never flitted away.

        1. It sure is and, at least in this case IMHO, one that really says it all.

    1. Why thank you for the kind words. I really like all butterflies, but think swallowtails are my absolute favorite.

    1. Hard to get more summery than butterflies, especially with the toasty temps which these guys don’t seem to mind.

    1. Gosh…blush, blush. Thanks, Sandee! The pups are grateful for the scritches.

  3. Swallowtails are awesome!
The heat is uncomfortable, but with it, my tomatoes and chilies are finally putting on some growth. I remain hopeful for at least one of each.

    1. Thanks, John. Swallowtails are such stunning creatures, they practically beg to be photographed.

    1. Why thank you. Very kind praise coming from a master of beautiful shots.

    1. Cathy, I think that’s a penstemon (also known as beardtongue). That particular one is not in my garden, but close by. I have other penstemons though-they do well in the Mile High City especially in xeriscaped gardens since they don’t require a lot of water. Bees and butterflies particularly like purplish colored plants.

  4. I have always loved watching butterflies โ€“ any butterfliesโ€ฆ..I get upset when I see one tattered and torn but โ€œsoldieringโ€ onโ€ฆ. brave and beautiful is a grand combination!

    Hugs, Pam

    1. They are remarkable creatures. Especially love watching them drink nectar from flowers. ๐Ÿฆ‹

  5. Beautiful shot. It harkens memories of being a kid and running with a net on a stick chasing these guys And Monarchs through the park for hours. Occasionally Iโ€™d get one and usually just let go…

    1. What a lovely memory you conjured up– all those summer days with neighborhood friends chasing bugs and playing amateur scientist.

    1. Swallowtails are so showy. And the way they float from flower to flower is mesmerizing.

    1. Definitely very summery but with the heat, I’m already counting down the days to autumn. Only 96 days to go. ๐Ÿ˜ƒ

        1. Yes, I do prefer cooler temps. Or at least those that don’t mimic pizza oven temps. ๐Ÿ™‚
