Welcome to Nature Friday where we join our ‘fur-iends’ from Adventures of the LLB Gang. Mother Nature has been all over the map this week. It’s been a bit of a typically weird Springtime in the Rockies kind of week weather-wise.
As I drove back from my parents house in southern Colorado, a large wet weather front hit pretty much most of the state but especially along the I-25 corridor. Monument Pass (just north of Colorado Springs) received several inches of white stuff. Luckily the roads weren’t too slippery but with nearly 15 miles of road construction, it was a slow, sad slog home.
While I was in Pueblo, Norman and I took occasional walks around the chaparral near my parent’s house. There are lots of ancient pinyon and cedar trees, some a few hundred years old. Norman wasn’t particularly interested in their history, only the crossing trails of bunny scents.
While snow this time of year is not unusual in the state, a couple of days of rain are (we’re more likely to receive snow than rain). The rain has refreshed the landscape, washed off the dust and grime of the city and brightened everything as Spring moves forward. The tulips have been extra gorgeous this year.
After a few days of rain and cold, Colorado’s bluebird skies and sunny conditions returned. They made for a great background for the now flowering crabapple trees yesterday.
The yo-yo temperatures will continue today, likely reaching 81ºF. That said, the forecast for early next week once again includes snow, keeping the past few years of history intact around Mother’s Day, with snow in the Mile High. If you don’t like the current weather, just wait 10 minutes because it will no doubt change to something you may enjoy.

Thanks. With drought conditions always a concern around here, you won’t hear me complain about moisture (unless I have to shovel it). Fortunately the snow hasn’t accumulated on the sidewalks. 😉

As for your weather ~ we could use all of that here! Stupid drought! It’s either all or nothing the last couple of decades, and it doesn’t seem to be ending any time soon. sigh. Butts, I am glads you guys got some amazin’ wet stuff to grow those BEAUTIFUL flowers!!!

Blush, blush. Thanks Ruby. Yeah, we know all too well about droughts. It was 81 on Friday and in the low 40’s today. Snow is expected by Tuesday and as long as it’s wet, I won’t mind one whit 😉
I hope we’re done with snow for this year. It’s still been rainy and chilly though, I just can’t wait for that first 70 degree day!
It was in the low 80’s on Friday but snow is predicted for Tuesday. Winter just can’t seem to let go.

The flowers are lovely and Norman is looking well. Annabelle’s favorite Detective lived and worked in Colorado Springs. I told her you were there :o)
Who is that detective? I’d be interested. I’ve read one from Evergreen (in the foothills west of Denver) but don’t off the top of my head know about one from the Springs.
When I’ve been in town, I’ve been wowed by the tulips. I hope that they survive the next snow. I’m about finished with snow myself. Norman sure is looking handsome!

That is pretty crazy weather. From snow to 81 and back again. That’s the kind of weather that gives people sniffles and such. Hoping you stay well and safe and enjoy the good weather when you get it!
It’s all good and I’d never begrudge Mother Nature if she were to share some moisture.
It has been a crazy spring, this year. Is it my imagination or more so than usual? No matter, we just go with the flow, don’t we? Your pictures are lovely (well, save for the first one – that must have been misrable lto drive in).

The weather wasn’t nearly as bad as trying to get through the construction zone that whittled down to one lane.
Ugh. Construction zones are the worst!
And this one is particularly awful. No shoulders, slower speed limits which hardly anyone pays attention to, lots of large commercial trucks hogging the limited space, reduced size of the lanes and one of the lanes is more often closed than open. Traffic is of course the same. You just have to take your place in queue and hope no one crashes into you and that you arrive safely at some point. 🤞🏻

Aww, that’s very sweet of you to say. Blooming crabapples are one of my favorite trees in the springtime. The house I grew up on had them lining the street and for two weeks out of the year, it was the prettiest street around.
There was a huge tree in the garden in London…just magnificent….and the bonus of the jelly later in the year!
For two weeks out of the year, they are unbelievably gorgeous. And then there are those little presents they drop on the sidewalks. But so worth it.

We are already in summer mode here. Lots of wind, but the temps are high in the afternoons. Pretty soon no heater in the mornings.
It was great seeing Norman. He’s most handsome.

It’s been a bittersweet spring, hasn’t it? But you’re right, everything seems refreshed. I love your phrase “Colorado’s bluebird skies” — perfect!
The late moisture sure has been nice. You know exactly what our bluebird skies look like. If only there were some bluebirds in Denver and not just up in the high country. 💙
I never lived anywhere that saying is truer. I can go out back with Milo, look up into cloudless skies, then 15 min later solid cloud cover and cold winds start, rain will fall two blocks from where it’s blue skies
The best is when it’s raining and there’s gobs of blue sky. Mother Nature is quite the trickster!
we love the tulips together with this blue little guys (we call them pipe cleaners) … and we hope the weather will be well balanced such rollercoaster temps are a good base for meowgraine…ouch… ;O)
Pipe cleaners-love that! Sounds so much more accurately descriptive than plain ole grape hyacinths. 🙂 The tulips have been particularly lovely this year. No doubt due to the spring snow we’ve received over the past 6 weeks.

He seems always ready for an adventure though I’m sure he was disappointed that we never saw any bunnies. I know it was for me. But he was especially interested in the donkey who loudly brayed at him. 🐴
Your weather sounds very familiar. Snowing at Mother’s Day is normal, we are surprised if not.
