Welcome to Friday where we take a gander at what nature dished up this week. As always we’re joining our New Mexico hosts, Rosy, Sunny and Jakey from LLB in Our Backyard. Don’t forget to check out their link to see what others have shared.
This week was the typical smorgasbord of tasties, courtesy of Mother Nature whose hormonal condition continues to rage. The days seem to jump between opposite conditions as one day is lovely with a hint of Spring, the next ‘ole man Winter yelling, “not so fast.’ I’m beginning to wonder if chiropractors are in league with nature because whiplash conditions between winter and spring seems more pronounced than ever.
A quick moving storm dumped another 5” trail of white on the Mile High Wednesday after a day of spring-like temps (61ºF / 16ºC) which is not unusual for this time of year around here. “Springtime in the Rockies” is well-known for the up/down weather patterns and temperatures. The snow this week though was absolutely dazzling. It looked like glitter had been sprinkled over soft powder. I can only hope it actually shows up in these images.
Tufts of snow filled spots on shrubs and spent perennials giving the landscape a cottony look among all that sparkle.
Could this be what a diamond field looks like?
A late morning walk yesterday (once the walks were cleared) showcased gorgeous bluebird colored skies behind a very unusual weathervane as I took in some of the melting process after the storm. Dripping icicles are mesmerizing to my way of thinking; I could watch the slow forming drips morph into miniature stalactites as they are shaped into crooked icicles while life all around transformed back into the urban hustle and bustle of the city. It was especially remarkable given there has been a constant buzz of construction work in the neighborhood from early morning until nearly sunset as the city replaces wheelchair access at corner curbs. The noise has been rather mind-numbing with heavy duty dump-trucks and road graters driving back and forth non-stop, yet for a few moments, I can get lost watching the slow drips as they transform into icy ribbons created by nature.
The weekend promises more spring-like weather before the next storm visits next week. Norman, Elsa and I are looking at a new route to catch a different glimpse of nature in the city. What are your plans?
Whatever you do, we hope some hypnotic moments in nature are included on your agenda. It’s good for one’s soul to spend time in nature and will no doubt improve your mental outlook, so get outside and look for some unique beauty. Who knows, you may just find a diamond or two.

Thank you, Dale. Despite a few signs of spring emerging, this week will be on the bottom shelf of the freezer. Tomorrow’s high won’t even reach double digits. The possible snow showers will make things even more winter-like. Sigh.

While I’m not surprised at the snow this time of year, I would normally be surprised at the temps going from 61 during the day to 5 inches of snow overnight. But we are getting the same temperature shifts here daily, minus the snow.
I, too, love icicles. Huge ones used to hang off the porch roof when I was a child.
More yo-yo weather this week, after reaching the mid-60’s over the weekend, we’ll hove in the single digits tomorrow with bitter cold all week. It may even be too cold for icicles!

Out here in the wilds of SoCal the recent unseasonably warm temperatures have caused the pear trees to flower way ahead of schedule. There will be some very surprised pears when the weather reverts to normal.
😥 so will the magnolia tree that lives down the street from me. It’s covered in buds and next week the highs will barely reach double digits until Thursday when it might make freezing. 🥶
Oh it does look like a field of diamonds….now that would be nice! We are hopeful that we’ve seen the last of our snows for this season but you never know – especially not THIS year which has been WEIRD to say the least.

Hello! We saw your comment at Rosy, Jakey, and Sunny’s doggie blog and decided to visit you. We have a lot of snow today too. But you never know. It could be gone tomorrow. Or not! We enjoy watching icicles form too.
When you show your snowfalls, it reminds me of that scene in Crocodile Dundee where he’s talking about a knife. .. only to paraphrase the line as it pertains to your snow versus mine would go like this. . .

Those diamond fields are so sparkling, the best part of winter. It seems Mother Nature is playing with us, our weather is just like yours, after those snowstorms it was raining two days. The temperature jumping up and down.

It was nearly freezing, but I think those sparkly crystals make it look colder than it really was. Today is far warmer and slush is the word for the day. Have a terrific weekend on your cruise!

Like entering a different world…your photographs are superb. Weathervanes used to be a feature in France, and not only on land. The traditional Loire barges used to have them too.
