Monday Musings ~ February 28, 2022

Welcome to the last day of the shortest month of the year. Being on the cusp of multiple seasons that happen this time of year (winter/spring, mud/spring/winter), comfort food in particular tends to take center stage around the Ranch. But beware of leaving your plate unattended for too long, otherwise you may become an unwilling victim like today’s smile.

Smiles

A bowl of popcorn made over the weekend stayed surprisingly untouched although I did notice a few more drool spots on the ottoman. Such earnest innocence in those faces.

Elsa & Norman

Snickering dog

Have a super Monday.

Live, love, bark! 🐾

    1. You mean Frick and Frack? Hahaha…that expression though pretty much allows them a lot of leeway with me.

  1. It’s so hard to see the expression on a black dog’s face in a picture…but if it’s as awwwwwww as Norman’s I’m afraid they would get most of my popcorn (if I ate popcorn).

    1. The ironic thing is I can see Elsa’s eyes all to clearly when she’s focused on a treat. Go figure. 😁

    1. I’m sure you wouldn’t like it, Lulu. The kernels get stuck between your teeth. Best to stick to moths and butterflies. 😆

    1. Snack foods aren’t allowed, unless you consider broccoli 🥦 a snack food 😉

  2. Oh, those sweet, innocent faces! I wish I could snuggle with them right now! I didn’t have to worry about my own comfort food cuz the DogDad constantly shared his with whichever one of the fur kids happened to be sitting next to or in front of his chair. 🙄

    1. No popcorn for the Ranch Hands. I never reward any kind of begging and it seems to work since they don’t pester me when I’m eating a meal.

  3. I always shared my comfort food with Angel Little bit. Love the funny and those two faces are very innocent. I linked this post to Awww Mondays.

Have a woof woof day you two. Scritches to the pups, a smooch to Norman and a big hug to mom. ♥

    1. Thanks for the Awww Mondays link. Yeah, those two are innocence personified. But we know better, don’t we, Elsa? 😆 Have a splendid Monday.

  4. Love the ‘toon…..I think our pets ALL do double duty as “emotional support” for we humans as we claw our way across the desert of problems we having these days. LOL Popcorn – I keep forgetting to make some – maybe tonight!!

    Hugs, Pam

    1. The Ranch Hands are pretty good too. Mostly. As much as Norman attacks medals with gusto, he’s a pretty good boy when it comes to foodables on the coffee table. The one steadfast rule is no staring when I’m eating food. They know this rule is NOT negotiable. Hoping you have a ‘pawfect’ Monday.

  5. ” beware of leaving your plate unattended for too long”

That reminds me of a story of a former colleague of mine.
She had two dogs, quite large Schnautzers, if I remember correctly. One day, while she and her husband were having dinner [chicken], he suddenly had a heart attack or someting similar and she had to rush him to the hospital. They didn’t care about the food still on the table and just left it. They fully expected it to be gone when they returned. But no: when they returned [luckily it wasn’t serious and they could return quickly], the food was still there and the dogs were sitting there staring at it and slobbering all over! 😉 Needless to say that they then got all the meat!

        1. The drooler is Norman. He’s also the best when it comes to waiting. Elsa is the one I really have to monitor. She can be kind of sneaky, hence the Ninja moniker. 😉

    1. So you guys like popcorn, eh? I don’t fix it very often but when I do, a bit of finely grated parmesan on top makes it pretty doggone tasty.

    1. Heh, heh. Some dogs never get over it. Begging (or staring) when the huMom is eating is a big no-no.

    1. They look so innocent about participating in any kind of dog-foolery, don’t they. 🤣

  6. Did I ever tell you about the time that Tegan ate an entire stick of butter off the Thanksgiving table? She was a happy dog, but well lubricated.

    1. Oh my dog! That’s too funny. A previous sheepdog ate a rather large slice of pumpkin pie that was cooling before we were to take it to my mom’s one Thanksgiving. 😕 Those satisfied looks are humbling, aren’t they?

    1. Doubtful…nothing seems to stop them from eating dropped morsels, let alone something unattended that could so easily be snarfed up. Nothing. Happy Monday.

      1. Hmmm… What kept them away from the popcorn, then? Our friggen kitten is a dawg! She snarfs like a dog! She gets up on the table no matter how many times I have swatted her off or sprayed her with water. Pig-headed.

        1. Ha! Sometimes the quest is the object, not the outcome. I think mine both know they aren’t supposed to beg. Now if I was gone for a long period of time, they might be tempted. Seems better to remove the temptation on those occasions. 😉

          1. Of course. And yes, we have learnt with this cat to put things out of her reach! Which is questionable just how high they have to go! I’m thinking they need a door like a cupboard.

            1. Problem solvers require their huMom’s to think creatively. And have lots of luck in the process. 🤣

                1. It’s like a battle of the minds this pet/human connection. Some days you’re the top dog, other days you’re reduced to being a hydrant. 😁
